Why do men hate women so much?

I’m on the larger side, a size 18. Walking back from work with my headphones in and on my phone and a guy leans out of his car window (passenger side) in slow moving traffic, barks at me like a dog and calls me a fat bitch. Him and his mates in the car then crack up at it and find themselves absolutely hilarious as they’re crawling along next to me.

I know it’s silly to be so upset by it because it’s such a silly thing for them to do, but they took me by surprise and gave me a fright and I just don’t get it. Why are men like this?

OP posts:

I voted YABU as the majority of men don't behave like absolute pricks.

I am really sorry they behaved like this and it must have been really upsetting. Think of it as a reflection on them; not on you. Little men with very small penises and shit for brains

Kimura · 18/12/2025 19:38

Which is super odd when you actually think about it, because none of them actually experienced what life was like 'back then'. It's just a fantasy of how they think things were.

I think it’s misplaced testosterone. As much as I hate that Sabrina Carpenter song ‘Tears run down my thighs’ I think the sentiment is bang on. Be a responsible guy and you’ll get your girl!

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 18/12/2025 19:41

Did you react? Don't, that's what they want. They were in slow-moving traffic? If they keep this up, they'll end up rear-ending the driver in front, then they'll have bigger fish to fry. Especially if the driver in front is already having a bad day.

I used to work in a pub and I’d see lots of those lovely, respectful husbands and fathers whose lovely wives, mothers and daughters would put them in the ‘not all men’ group.
If only they saw them in male company when the weren’t there.

Thank you, you said this much more succinctly than my rather rambling post earlier.

I've just remembered one thing related to that though.

I was recently chatting to a colleague when the general subject (men's attitude to women) came up. She was very fond of quoting her late husband and how he wouldn't have stood for that sort of thing.

Her husband was a member of the club I worked at and he not only "stood" for it but took part in the "banter". I've no doubt he was an exemplary husband and father but when men are in a group, pack mentality takes over.

I just smiled and nodded, the guy's dead, No point spoiling working relations with his widow.

Aye because being called a fat bitch is subjective and I chose to have them in my life… as they drove past me in traffic

Please pay no attention to the whataboutery from the incels on here who are coming out with a clear and obvious pile of nonsense that 'women are as bad as men.' I can't believe they type such utter farcical tripe with a straight face to be honest... Better to not engage with these individuals.

The same men doing the same things except it’s not socially acceptable with women any more….except for the women on this thread saying not all men...

Disagreeing that all men inherently hate women does not mean that you find things like martial rape it domestic violence more 'socially acceptable'.

Now you're painting large groups of women with the same brush.

What a male apologist you are!

Agreed. That comment by @Boomer55 is despicable.

growingsideway · 18/12/2025 17:24

I just don’t understand it. What’s their issue?

Misogyny, patriarchy, poor parenting, no sense of self so need to belittle others...so many issues! I'm so sorry you had to face that. How awful. Virtual handhold and hug being sent your way. There are decent men out there, but clearly not them.

Just to say, this does not happen in other countries

It is very particular to the UK

I have to agree with this. I’m sure there’s terrible men in other cultures, however the UK has a large demographic of ‘chav’ lads, which is where this type of behaviour comes from. They’ve been dragged up in life by unsavoury people and not intelligent enough to understand or empathise how their actions affect other people. They run purely off instinct and live to “have a laugh” even if it’s at someone else’s expense.

When I was 18 I had awful teenage acne. I was waiting for the bus after college one day and a car slowed down while driving by. A lad put his window down, saw my face and said loudly to me in front of lots of other people “Ewww you’re a dog! Nice tits though”. This made me more self conscious of my skin than ever.

It’s hard OP but try not to let it bother you, sorry you had to go through that ❤

Any woman that responds to the OP with a comment along the lines of 'not all men' is despicable in my view,

Have a look at the Women Travellers section of a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide for any country. The fact that one is needed says it all.

Maybe not around you but stick them in a car of other men, make them relatively anonymous and I bet they would.

Do you have sons? Do you think they would do it? Not denying your experience and how humiliating and cruel they were, but do you genuinely believe all men would behave like that given the opportunity?

Andsoitbeganagain · 18/12/2025 19:50

We make them feel inadequate. Some of them are better equipped to deal with that than others.

I agree. And I hate that it’s always painted as ‘bitterness by unattractive women’ or whatever.

At the risk of sounding ‘tiny violin’, I’m what you’d call conventionally attractive, and all that affords you is surface level ‘respect’ so long as you go along with their sexual demands. The moment you refuse, you’re consigned to the heap of women who deserve nothing but ridicule.

I was a bit of a tear away when I was younger, had a very unhappy home life and stayed at the house of anyone who would take me in. I was thinking back to the list of boys who let me stay over the other day, and it dawned on me that every boy who didn’t expect some kind of sexual favour in return has now come out as gay. Every single one. It was really depressing.

Sahara123 · 18/12/2025 17:28

It’s definitely not all men, the men in my life wouldn’t dream of doing something like that. But I don’t agree it’s just men, I’ve heard women being horrendously bitchy to other women.

Wasn't there a thread a couple of days ago where the step brothers girlfriend told the ops daughter to lose weight?

There are some pathetic excuses of human beings that masquerade as men. They are childish, small pricked losers. There are a few nice ones out there

Did you read the Gisele Pelicot case?

The statistics on male rapes, assaults and murders on women are not great. I can only image more men partake in this kind of behaviour.

What utter rubbish. None of the men I know would dream of behaving like that, in fact they would more likely call it out, and in my many years on this earth I have only been subjected to something like that once or twice - and I'm no oil painting.

landlordhell · 18/12/2025 19:38

SOME men for sure are utter twats. Sorry you had that experience. I do worry for my young adult DDs. I am lucky to have been married to a really good man for 30 years and to be the daughter of a really good man and to have a really good man for my brother. There are lots of good men, they just don’t yell at you from cars.

Edited

Or they just don’t do it in front of their families.
Do you not think the guys that did this to op aren’t someone’s beloved son or brother and they likely wouldn’t have thought it of them.

Absolutely not I’m sorry you don’t know any but my life is full of good men and I’m very grateful

Not from a moving car with added gorilla noises approved by the rest of those in the car.

you know 1 in 4 women will be raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime don’t you?

That’s a terrible statistic of bad men
