To be concerned about a war?

Woke up this morning opened my SM and first posts I see are about a basically inevitably pending war with Russia. It’s the first I’ve heard of it. Sir Richard Knighton said the threat needs to be taken seriously and “called for greater honesty with uk families about what it means to prepare for the very real threat to national security”. He also said security situation is more dangerous than it has been at any point in his career and the UK can no longer rely on military forces alone to keep security safe. Finally the comment of “sons and daughters must be prepared to fight” it would take a “whole nation effort” and “families would have to face real sacrifice”

i mean wtaf? I certainly won’t be rushing to the frontline that’s for sure. What’s going on? Very concerned

I say that this time round we send all the women off to fight first.

Absolutely agree with that. The ones that have recently transitioned can go first 😜

How old was the Sydney shooter? Remind me?
How old are the guys climbing Lamp posts to tie union jacks to them?
Oh, they’ll fight
Some of them have just been waiting for an excuse for awhile

Sadly I think this is very true.

Well you're a delight aren't you? I bet you've got a long list of "people not like me" you'd happily sacrifice on your apparent altar of bloodlust.

The Russian army has been largely an embarrassing failure in the Ukraine. They are disorganised, incompetent and ill equipped and as a result have made very little progress despite superior numbers.

Whereas NATO is united against Russia and has advanced professional militaries which completely outclass the Russian military. I can't foresee any near future in which conscription is a requirement. Russia has demonstrated that it is not capable of effective land invasion even against a largely civilian army.

Corrupt oligarchy is actually not the way to run an effective state. Russia is a shit show. Putin's power comes at the expense of Russia's security and prosperity with knock on effects for its military capability. You can't impoverish your own nation and be well equipped for war.

Russian cyber attack / infrastructure attack / political interference is a serious concern. Intelligence countermeasures are what we should be investing in.

XWKD · 16/12/2025 09:50

Russia doesn't have the resources to go to war with the West -not a conventional type of war anyway. France and the UK have their own nukes. There are several other nuclear missile sites throughout Europe that need American launch codes.

They can’t put everyone in jail

like fuck have I raised two sons to die for this shithole country and old white men’s egos.

What do you mean, old white men’s egos? Why bring racism into this?

Looks like enough trigger words have filtered through to HQ to test the waters.

Quite fancy some popcorn for breakfast.....

Jolly good, as long as they're not expected to do that, plus absolutely everything else, like they currently are. I can imagine legions of men wailing "but what do the kids need for school today?!"

All this ‘I/my son/my dog wouldn’t be fighting, over my dead body’ is irrelevant as you’d been forced to by law, with the punishments for non compliance being worse than actually doing it. The whole point is that it’s mandatory.

I'm 100% with OP. Neither I nor my family will be forced to war. I'd rather take the punishments. You sound like one of those odious people handing out white feathers in 1914.

Unicornsarefluffy · 16/12/2025 10:01

Fight for what? A government who lies constantly? Paedophiles getting no prison sentences? Rape gang cover ups? Knife crime? A clamp down on free speech? Rising house prices? Stopping jury trials? Our food security being taken away?

Surely the farmers iht will be reversed now as we need food security? Are we going to be encouraged to buy local produce and grow our own?

When do we stop buying Russian oil (via India) and get our own from the North Sea?

Also Europe is Multi Cultural does that mean some people living in Britain will fight British people in Britain as their allegiance is with their ‘home land’? How does that work?

Fight not to be captured, tortured, raped etc? Did that not occur to you? The number of posters acting like this is a ‘prove your loyalty to the king’ exercise rather than one in avoiding torture and death is infuriating!

You’d be fighting to not have your 10-year-old boy raped in front of you as the Ukrainians have
Do you think they’re doing it so that they can convert the garage into a games room?
Move closer to work ?
WTF
i’m now less concerned about our ability to physically fight a water and more concerned that we lack the mental capacity

Thank you for actually saying it and not dancing around the obvious.

The alternative to fighting is always much worse than fighting.

It’s only cosseted anxious types who seem convinced lying down and doing nothing would be better

Please explain how Russia will physically invade the UK. Preferably with a diagram?

This actually sank my stomach into my feet. This is the reality I'm afraid. When faced with this, the vast majority would lay down their lives.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. You need to educate yourself. Shame on you

Unicornsarefluffy · 16/12/2025 10:08

If conscription happens you may be fighting alongside someone who lives in Britain but has Russian heritage. Would there be a risk that they just shoot their fellow soldiers on the battle field or spy for the opposition?

Is a risk assessment done?

Or do those with Russian heritage not get conscripted and they remain in the U.K? Which means they may fight on British soil or kill civilians?

Or do they get deported?

How will this actually work?

(Sorry to any Russians reading this) other countries will support Russia so this could be relevant to many people living the UK.

Nobody likes to think about it, of course
And I would take my children’s place
Because I wouldn’t want to go on without them
But the reality is around the world every single day it’s somebody’s child being killed at warfare

Some here wouldn’t apparently due to something about housing prices and boomers 🤷‍♀️

I doubt anybody with dual Russian heritage would be allowed

I said women are expected to. And they are. Nowhere have I said that men do nothing. You've invented a totally imaginary scenario there and become offended by it - having initially provoked a response by allowing your own misogyny to show.

HoneyParsnipSoup · 16/12/2025 10:16

I agree it’s a risk.

So how would that work in practice?

What about countries that sympathise with Russia? Do soldiers leave Britain and the Russian citizens and citizens of countries who sympathise with Russia stay here in their homes and avoid conscription or do they get deported prior to the soldiers leaving?
