To be concerned about a war?

Woke up this morning opened my SM and first posts I see are about a basically inevitably pending war with Russia. It’s the first I’ve heard of it. Sir Richard Knighton said the threat needs to be taken seriously and “called for greater honesty with uk families about what it means to prepare for the very real threat to national security”. He also said security situation is more dangerous than it has been at any point in his career and the UK can no longer rely on military forces alone to keep security safe. Finally the comment of “sons and daughters must be prepared to fight” it would take a “whole nation effort” and “families would have to face real sacrifice”

i mean wtaf? I certainly won’t be rushing to the frontline that’s for sure. What’s going on? Very concerned

The youth of today will not fight .

And if a state player is starving the UK of imported food, because we have foolishly allowed ourselves to become dependent on imports.
If presented with a choice of starving or trying to prevent the attacks on food imports? Under those circumstances most people will fight rather than starve.

Given that Germany feels it necessary to start digging trenches in Poland to shore up their defences, it's time to start preparing in the rest of Europe.

Abra1t · 16/12/2025 09:24

Those who say it's not their war, do you think Putin will discriminate in your favour or something?

He doesn't care. His soldiers rape women. They steal children. They bombard civilians.

Australia nearly got starved out by the Japanese

That premise isn't actually correct. The Australian population was never in danger of mass starvation, due to domestic food production, but the war did cause significant economic disruption and introduced rationing of certain goods (like clothing, petrol, tea, and butter) due to supply chain issues and the need to support the war effort.

That article is more aboutnour sons and daughters choosing career paths that in turn will help defend the country more than our kids fighting on the front line.
Warfarenof the future will include more cyber attacks, drones etc.

This. My ds is studying maths, physics and engineering, for a degree in civil & renewable engineering. The more skills and infrastructure we home-grow, the less reliant on others, and therefore the less vulnerable, the UK will be.

With respect, I couldnt care less about the law. In a few situations actually, but this one in particular.

No sane person wants a war, but if it did happen, could you perhaps explain why you’d have the right to refuse to fight while others are potentially dying so you can say you don’t care less about the law

And here we are, the first line of attack, get the populous at each others throats so they do most of the job for them. I believe that is called playing into the hands of the theoretical enemy.

If you've watched the film "Leave the World Behind" it's an interesting potential blueprint for midernised warfare.

Germany doesn't have its own nuclear arsenal and nobody really knows what Putin will do. Shoring up a potential point of entry as a preventative measure makes absolute sense. It doesn't mean that war is inherently more likely.

I’m very well, thank you for asking.

But I’m not gonna let anybody stand back and refuse to fight for this “shit show of a country” if I’m expected to, so you will get shot Or you’ll pick up a gun and start shooting
Choice is yours

Sorry but you sound like the nut. Like the people saying Covid ‘would never do anything to the UK’.

🤣🤣🤣🤣. That made me laugh.

it’s very very concerning. I’m not one to worry about things like this usually but if it’s going to happen I’ll be considering moving abroad

Where do you think is safe to move to? Serious question.

Edited

They suffered a lot more than the UK did because they aren’t self-sufficient and the water situation has got worse over the last 80 years not better.
I think many of them would leave if they had the option, I know people who leave whenever there’s an economic downturn so they don’t have the resilience that you might expect of the Aussie battler

How so? I didn’t say that, and I’ve started a thread about being concerned about the threat of war. What’s the connection?

I agree that Russia is a threat - though more in terms of cyber attacks on infrastructure than actually bombing or invading the UK. But this is a Defence Chief of Staff speaking to a defence think tank. His whole job is too create headlines and encourage the government to spend money on the military. He's hardly going to say "everything is grand, let's not invest in the army," is he?

Princejoffyjaffur · 16/12/2025 09:37

I’m not sure, I’d have lots of options I guess. Where might you suggest?

Middle East? Spain? I’m not overly clued up on what countries would be involved

If it comes to a proper war the middle east will be involved. Russia has attempted invasions there before and has varying relationships with them. Plus which would you really sacrifice the freedoms you are used to as a Woman.

And Spain is part of NATO. Any was is going to be against NATO.

There is nowhere that will be immune.
