Tree fairy

Every year I float the idea of a Christmas fairy to top the tree. DH and DCs all claim that a star is the ornament that should be used. We have both. AIBU to think that a fairy is THE CORRECT tree topper?

And I love that people have all different toppers for their trees.

I have batman as my tree topper 😁

K0OLA1D · 12/12/2025 08:31

We have a glittery dinosaur on the top of ours. So everyone is unreasonable

ShodAndShadySenators · 12/12/2025 09:10

Growing up we had one of those tall elegant spiky glass things, what are they called? The "coloured glass spire". Ours was sparkly white with turquoise bands and looked just right.

Since then on my tree I've had a bear holding a star, a fairy (in red and green), Scandi Santa and a comedy felt Santa. Currently comedy Santa has the starring role this year and I can't see him being made redundant any time soon, he's cute and lovely.

It's been lovely to see pics of people's toppers too.

Goditsmemargaret · 12/12/2025 09:31

UGH a star? Yuck. LTB (leave the bore) immediately. Only a beautiful angel deserves to sit at the top of a Christmas tree.

Noononoo · 12/12/2025 09:38

There’s nothing Christian about a Christmas tree it is all magic, the place where fairies reign.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 12/12/2025 10:27

We had an angel (perhaps the fairies are angels?) always as a child. This thread has incentivized me to dig in my parents loft for it as she’s not been seen for many years. Thank you. My child made a massive cardboard star in nursery which is falling to bits and takes pride of place on our tree every year. Angels or stars are perfectly acceptable :-)

Avie29 · 12/12/2025 10:35

Fairy/angel here! Xx

Menonut · 12/12/2025 10:37

Traditionally a star or an angel.

In actuality it doesn’t matter, it’s your tree.

Wot23 · 12/12/2025 10:49

depends on what you think Christmas is represented by

  • a mystical birth
  • a mystical fairy

and, more importantly, what does an evergreen "fir" tree have to do with any of that

longtompot · 12/12/2025 11:33

We have a fairy and have done for, must be well over 15 years. Bought her Waitrose in the January sales. I make sure the skirt of her dress is lit up with the fairy lights. Before that we had a star.
Interesting to read about the origins, though nothing concrete about fairies. One story said it was during the Victorian era and little girls would take down the angel and dress them up in their dolls clothes.
Another said it was linked to folklore and pagan tradition with fairies living in the trees and hedgerows and the magic of the season.

I quite liked this story though

Denis: A pointed reminder reminder why a fairy sits on top of the Christmas tree

MANY households will this year have a fairy on top of their Christmas tree.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/12/2025 12:08

Fairy all the way!
We have always had a fairy for the top of the tree 🧚🏻‍♀️

Poobs2022 · 12/12/2025 12:24

We used to use a star because that's what we had and for a couple of years we had nothing because the tops of the real trees were too long and nothing would stay up. This year I bought a topper that's a felt dog dressed as a tree 🤣

Lilofthevalley · 12/12/2025 12:29

I have a squirrel. As obviously, squirrels live in trees. He is wearing a santa hat.

You are officially the winner! Where does one find a black cat in a cone of shame star <asking for a friend honest>

It has always been a star in my house and in my parents house too. I thought it was a star or an angel, not a fairy.

MsGinaLinetti · 13/12/2025 07:04

Love the Dolly Parton one

Axial tilt is the reason for the season. As the saying goes.

Christmaschristingle · 13/12/2025 07:52

@Renamed What's the ornaments thread
