Tree fairy

Every year I float the idea of a Christmas fairy to top the tree. DH and DCs all claim that a star is the ornament that should be used. We have both. AIBU to think that a fairy is THE CORRECT tree topper?

Go with whatever you want...
How about a black cat in a cone-of-shame star?

No, you gave your opinion. We're allowed to differ.

In my view, Christmas is for Christians. Otherwise its, Treemas, or Presentmas or Boozemas.

You’ll be making offerings to the goddess Oestre at Easter, then?

You've got the wrong poster.
I've never said anything about opinions or not being allowed to differ.

I quoted you.

Nope, I shall celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

YorksMa · 11/12/2025 12:19

I'm team fairy all the way. 💫

No, fairies are not messengers of God, but neither are elves, toy soldiers, festive mice, jolly squirrels or any of the other random shizzle I've got on my tree.😁

And you don’t detect a hint of hypocrisy there? You don’t think people should celebrate midwinter traditions predating Christianity by thousands of years, because the festival is called Christmas, but when I point out that the reverse applies to Easter, you don’t get it?

Religious fanatics aren’t known for their critical thinking skills, I suppose.

"Religious fanatics"?
What an unpleasant and incorrect descriptor of me. You're so wrong.
Enjoy "Winterval".

Ah, Winterval, the rallying cry of butthurt Christians and right wing dog-whistlers everywhere 😂

My daughter uses a Xmas angel her nan bought in 1952 - scruffy now but she won’t use anything else 😉

We used to have two angels, one toilet roll and the other a paper doily, from the early 80s that were used alternate years, sadly one's been lost so it's the toilet roll angel that still has the dates written inside from when there were two.

UnimatrixZeroOne · 11/12/2025 12:58

Angel. Ours is massive and dwarfs our dear little 4 foot tree but she is indeed majestic! (She also lights up. Tasteful!)

ginasevern · 11/12/2025 13:36

When I was a kid (1960's) the angel was always called the "fairy on top of the tree". Everyone I knew called it that. In fact it was a very common tongue in cheek expression back then to describe a woman dressed in all her finery.

dailyconniptions · 11/12/2025 13:37

This is my beautiful Christmas angel from the 1960s. My parents bought her when they were first married and she was on the top of our family Christmas tree every year. I'm so happy to have her now!

I know! Years ago my parents asked me what I would like from their house as they were downsizing and passing on furniture. The only 3 things I wanted were the angel and these other two beauties. Also from the 1960s! They are so very special!
