Just having a bit of a thoughtful day really, thinking back to the mid 90’s and my youth
Life was so exciting then and looking back, I cannot believe the things we got up to from a young age and how different things will probably be for my Dd now

I’m 47, trapped in suburbia 😅 and nobody would likely imagine the type of person I was back then and until mid twenties really

If you were there, what is your life look like now, do you often feel as bored as I do? Would you go back?

I still love a good dance, it’s usually a kitchen disco now, I do have flashing lights for when we have friends over .

reenon · 10/12/2025 15:03

There's a Solos Ravers Facebook page - loads of raving and meetups going on

Plasey · 10/12/2025 15:04

I think the culture has just changed. You see teens out to dinner all the time now. I can’t fathom having gone to a proper, sit down restaurant with friends at that age. Maybe the very occasional Nando’s.

Wellness as a commodity is everywhere now. People are much more interested in protein and skincare. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. I shudder at the precarious binge drinking situations I put myself in.

I think kids just go out less in general. A lot of them get their social fix from social media so no need to find out where everyone is going out tonight like I remember doing

CrabbMcCrab37 · 10/12/2025 15:06

Still out enjoying! Festivals, gigs, hacienda events, big club nights/ djs. Learning to DJ. Not at all trying to "cling onto youth", just always will enjoy music, dancing and having good fun. Unless ill health stops me, or I stop enjoying, I will continue. Why not?

Serenity45 · 10/12/2025 15:07

I'm 53 and bloody loved the late 80s/90s. Mix of pubs clubs and raves (one amazing one in the old Birmingham Rag Market would have been about 89/90) ended up in fields a few times also festivals. Just great times with a big group of friends some of whom are sadly no longer with us. I still love a night out!

PeloMom · 10/12/2025 15:13

Never enjoyed clubbing, raving, drinking. Wish was in my 20-30s now and didn’t spend mine having to explain why am not getting sloshed

Dhsy · 10/12/2025 15:13

When was the last time anyone here snogged a stranger?

I do wonder if that’s why gen z is dating less. Many first moves were made on night outs with a bit of Dutch courage

DS and girlfriend were at Leeds university September 2019 to may 2022!. COVID lockdowns. They had six months before the first lockdown in march 2020. All the nightclubs closed. They'd barely reopened before they were shut again.

They've never reopened again. DS and partner still live in Leeds Area it's a different world now for them at age 24

FastFood · 10/12/2025 15:22

46 and still raving several times a year.
Although if I go raving on a Friday, I'll take Monday off to recover and it might still not be enough.

I don’t want to do it now, but want to go back! Don’t know how we didn’t die, the 90’s from age 13 upwards were just insane

Yes they were, I was trying to explain to a student assistant at work but she clearly didn’t get it. Warehouse raves, outdoor raves, free parties, after parties. Good times.

As for doing it now, I’m just glad I’m still alive, in bed every night by 10. Don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t do anything! It was enough. I’m 46 but there seemed to be more casualties in the age group slightly older than me, those who were out at the acid house parties in the late 80s early 90s.

My son was at uni same time..but in London. Still went on nights out once they resumed. He had a snog once in first year with a complete stranger from a different university. He was so happy and surprised that a girl had taken interest in him.

Yeah totally. Get drunk, get off with someone.Good night.

In answer to the OP, they ended up on the JL advert.

Crushed23 · 10/12/2025 15:38

This isn’t what your thread is about, but there are still some ravers in 2025! We’re not as cool as the 90s ravers (oh how I wish to have been a young adult in the 90s…), but we still live for raves and festivals. My friends and I probably go to a rave every 2-4 weeks on average, and I have at least 5 festivals planned for 2026 - can’t wait 🥳

1983Louise · 10/12/2025 15:40

Me and my friends, all in our 60s now go to day time events. Just back from a soul and Motown singer at a local pub which as different singers on every Wednesday. Soul and Motown night once a month and various day discos, hoping to dance into to old age disgracefully. We're also very much into fashion and beauty, you can't keep good women down 🤩

When was the last time anyone here snogged a stranger?

New Year's Eve 2010. Two Brewers in Clapham. I think his name was Tony. He was a remarkably good kisser.

28!

We got old!
Loved clubbing, but I wouldn't want to go now at my age. If I could turn back the clock and have a night out as a 21 year old again I would. Still listen to the music on the treadmill.
Kids just don't do it now. My niece is 22 and a big "influencer" on tiktok and none of them drink or go clubbing. It's all aesthetically pleasing dinners and holidays.

I bet Gen Z’s children (gen Beta? 🤔) will rebel. I think / hope there will be a new cultural revolution in a decade or two (music and art are the one thing AI can’t beat us at!) and I bet gen B will be at the heart of it!

Can anyone recommend some decent raves in London. (Nothing cheesy please - proper hardcore stuff)

HopSpringsEternal · 10/12/2025 15:51

I live abroad now but make an annual trip back to London in the summer. Always time it so I catch a day festival or two. Try Krankbrother in Finsbury Park, All Points East in Victoria Park, or Field Day in Brockwell Park.

angelcake20 · 10/12/2025 16:09

50s and never been to a rave. I’d be happy if I could find people who wanted to go to the pub!

When was the last time anyone here snogged a stranger?

I went to Mykonos in September and snogged a young Argentinian footballer 🤭 Mykonos is wiiiillldddd 😱 💃😅 He was beautiful though 😍

I went clubbing in my hometown in the summer with my Gen X besties, we had a great time although the youngsters in the club were all on those laughing gas balloons 😳 It was horrific, one girl collapsed on the dancefloor and was carried out by the bouncers 😕

It was me that started the clubbing nostalgia thread on Saturday, loved the reminiscing 😁

I go out at 6am for a run most days; I often think ohhh, that's the time I used to stagger home on a Sunday morning and wonder what happened to me 🤣
