Just having a bit of a thoughtful day really, thinking back to the mid 90’s and my youth
Life was so exciting then and looking back, I cannot believe the things we got up to from a young age and how different things will probably be for my Dd now

I’m 47, trapped in suburbia 😅 and nobody would likely imagine the type of person I was back then and until mid twenties really

If you were there, what is your life look like now, do you often feel as bored as I do? Would you go back?

See I never really got the " rave " scene even back then I was a biker girl going to live Rock music in the pubs. And still do lol

Edited

Admittedly I was more of a pub and disco/pop girl personally, but my siblings and a lot of my friends were big into the rave scene so I occasionally tagged along. I got more into the rock metal scene after seeing Metallica live in the early 00s. Still a pop princess at heart though.

Wouldn’t touch Ket either

They don't dance to techno anymore. You don't see them under a strobe light on the dancefloor. It's been a while since I saw their ultraviolet smiles.

I however still do dance to techno from time to time.

PollyIndia · 11/12/2025 19:16

I went to homobloc in Manchester last weekend, which is a massive queer rave, so people of all ages, and I’m 50. Was so fun, lots of ear bleeding techno, an everybody dancing. I still go out every month or two, but I live in London and I have friends that are dj’s and organise nights so there’s a lot of stuff happening for people of our age group who still want to go out mini raving (i say mini as I’m never out past 2/3 these days). Plus Glastonbury and other festivals every summer. That’s where I always feel young! I love dancing, I never want to stop.

All the ones I know are old bald with wrinkly hairy faces that still think they have the moves every time they come to mine for a drink, which they have usually mixed with something else. By10pm they are usually passed out 😂

My home town did a couple of old raving nights in some of the old clubs, it was a really sad sight to see. I didn’t go but there were newspaper articles, photos and even worse videos of 40/50 yos dressing and behaving like there were 18 again 😬

Agree though, I’m glad I experienced the 90s, it was an amazing decade we will never have anything like it again.

I feel a bit sad for you that you think like that. I'm 50 next year. When I go out with my friends I have an amazing time and usually get home about 4am.

One of my old pals from school organises club nights, they get some really big names and usually sell out of tickets in advance. She's living her best life!

If your DC do drugs do your care?

It’s clear you disapprove, why don’t you say your opinion it’s ok

Absolutely me too. Rising pianos and soaring strings ❤️

My clubbing days were mid to late 00s and early ‘10s. It was great but I grew out of it and wouldn’t go to a club now (do they even still exist?)
I get all these adverts on Facebook for day time “clubbing” with 00s tunes, which to me just seems depressing and would make me feel really old. The whole point of clubbing was that we were out til the early hours, at a proper club, and young. I’d rather remember it that way and leave it in the past.
Nowadays I go to certain festivals, live music nights and gigs - a proper night out in the present, not trying to recreate the past. Though it doesn’t happen very often, as we’re busy working parents and need to call in babysitting favours from relatives to have a night out. Most weekends we just like to chill and watch a film with a beer/wine.

Placeoftides · 11/12/2025 23:36

90s raver, psytrance girl here! Quite looking forward to being 50 and still partying now the kids have grown up and I don't have to be responsible 🤣

I probably should have been clearer, I have no issue with still going out having fun, it’s the behaviour I thinks sad, as teens/ early 20somthings we did some stupid, impulsive and immature things. What I thinks sad is repeating that behaviour in your 40s-60s.

Jumpingthruhoops · 12/12/2025 00:24

We're still here! 🙌🙌

As the saying goes: 'You don't stop raving when you get old, you get old because you stop raving!' 🐠🐟📦😂

I don't know anyone who repeats that exact behaviour in their 40s-60s. They are still very much going out and having a good time.

HellsBells13 · 12/12/2025 00:38

My raving days were late 80's. By the 90's I'd calmed down. I still play the old ones. Frankie Knuckles Your Love gets me even now ..

Hamstery · 12/12/2025 00:48

I feel sad for my kids and everyone else’s that cheap and local weekly gigs and clubs are all gone. Dancing all night with your mates is like nothing else. What’s the equivalent that they do now? Cost of living has taken away so much fun from the population as well as obviously the bare necessity basics of food and housing.

I’d like to go out and dance to House and also jungle DNB again but only at the same BPM as it once was, not sure they really make ‘em that way any more..

blackheartsgirl · 12/12/2025 01:01

I miss the 90s 😭. Like a pp I’d love to go back but wouldn’t like to experience it as a 48 year old now, I like to be home and in bed by ten these days 🤣.

what a decade!

I just take joy in dd3 15 discovering all the 90s classics and blasting them in the car instead.

she was definitely born in the wrong era!

patooties · 12/12/2025 01:11

I loved it - all of it - had the greatest teens and twenties in the greatest place on earth at that time.
I have ‘moved on’ in many ways - the 50th’s were all having (with teen kids ) I just look at them , looking at my peers and think ‘this is for them’ in the same way that when the Motown medley comes on at a wedding and your parents cut the rug and I think ‘how lovely’ I don’t want to be at my mates 70ths / 40th wedding anniversaries waiting for Kklass or ‘together’ to kick in.
I still go out (accidentally sometimes) to dance. But kicking around with my kids. Hard no.

Melonjuice · 12/12/2025 01:31

We are here lol , myself and my partner
We still go out to stuff, spent last summer in ayia Napa lol ( I'm 46)

YourOnMute · 12/12/2025 02:29

Wasn't into raves but there were plenty of alternative gigs and clubs about in the 90s. (I remember there being lots of different groups too: the ravers, goths, grunge, metal, new agers, pop). Often these would pop up in some old building. Great memories too of nights in the pub and going to a club, any club, just to continue on with the night, finished with a house party. Monday through Sunday. £20 would get you a great night.
What happened me was I had a baby 😂 and then all my friends settled down. We moved into the next phase of our lives.
I changed a lot though over the years. I would go ahead to a club to meet people by myself but now I hate crowds and would struggle with the lights and noise.
My dd goes to the same uni there and it's completely different now. For ages there were no clubs at all and I think one now opens at the weekend. There are no abandoned old buildings, they've all been done up. Also there isn't enough accommodation so lots of young people live at home and commute hours for uni and work. "Going out" is way more expensive and there's a lot more partying at home due to the cost of drink.
There was a real exciting, almost crazy, atmosphere in the 90s. Anything seemed possible. It was so creative in many ways.

Drumheads in north london always has great lineups - and it finishes at 10.30pm!

Drumsheds I think you mean.

I’m the same age, my kids are bored with my stories, especially the 19 year old who doesn’t drink, hates clubs and finds boys ‘lacking’ 🤣 I think I used up all the fun, raving, dancing and dating genes 🧬

bizkittt · 12/12/2025 04:39

Much prefer a sit down, dinner and drink in the evening. My back would be kiling me at a rave now.

MrsMorrisey · 12/12/2025 05:49

I’m still here! But I don’t do any thing anymore. I loved it and would go straight to work after a quick shower and cup of tea.
Surprised nothing had happened to me. Did drugs with complete strangers and trusted Id be okay and I was. Kissed random men who were off their face too.
wore a crop top and baggy jeans and hardly any makeup and hair up so I could dance without it getting in my face.
No way would I dress like that now. It was dangerous but really fun. The occasional house tune sends you right back.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 12/12/2025 06:45

Used to love going to raves/clubs but my back can't cope anymore and I'm done after an hour or two these days. It was good up until about 2009, but the attitude of clubbers started changing and it got more rude so I slowly stopped going.

I have tinnitus from years spent in clubs, I remember the mornings when I'd walk out of a club at 6am and my hearing was muffled for the rest of the weekend.

I still love the music, still love the people, have been to festivals and still occasionally go out but it's a rarity.

I hold on to my memories though, the nights which became weekends, the strangers who turned into family.

Oh okay. Well I think people who do/did drugs (the illegal kinds) should have been raised better.
