I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

Choo Choo 🚂

Great but much bigger in space than this hidden room

Ohwhatswrong · 08/12/2025 21:38

Yep that's right.
A- is a really good space, 3 of us up there this morning
And C nowhere to be seen, boarded up.

I’d be too scared to uncover C…

Could you complain to the survey people? They haven’t done their job at all, have they?!

That’s cos the poster took it down when the sky man discovered it

I said cleverly because the OP and husband have been up there numerous times and not realised

If you want some inspo, have a look at theaverycottage on insta, they’ve just done a remarkably similar room to yours and transformed it from horror story to fairy tale.

This is amazing! Do this OP - convert it into a fairy tale!!

The cop out phrase is "Where seen" with surveyors unless you pay a lot of money and the sellers allow them to remove panels, drill holes etc.

Personally I'd ask the previous owners through the estate agent.

Me too!

Come and live in Arundel! There are loads of old houses that have tunnels leading to the castle, they were used in the civil war by Cromwells army to launch a surprise attack on the castle, I'm sure many are blocked off but I know someone who's house has a secret tunnel but she's never been down it as she's too scared too, I suppose the ceiling caving in and flooding are a concern

Ohwhatswrong · 08/12/2025 21:51

We love the house, it has just a lovely family, homely feeling. And even with the room up there it doesn't take away from the nice feeling in the main parts of the house 😊.

I'm not quite sure how I'm giving off hysterical vibes, I don't feel hysterical just intrigued and like WTF 😱😂.

I also think the poster that suggested taking the wallpaper off and making it look a little nicer would make all the difference.
And I hadn't even thought about the fact there's another side to the loft until I went back up this morning to have a proper look.
Now I'm thinking about it 🤔
And also the weird phone call from the funeral directors, just coincidence... Or paranormal 😱😜😂

OMG I'd never be able to live in a house like that, way too scared.

Nice part of the South though.

I said this to DH too! There's something just not quite right.

I agree with this, tell them and put the ball in their court, chances are its absolutley nothing and no harm done. But if it is something, then they have a lead to put some horrible people away. Xx I'd be tempted to get a black light. 🫣

GeorgeClooneyshouldhavemarriedme · 08/12/2025 21:54

How could you not have already broken through to the other side of the loft???

I'd be dying to see if there's anything else in there.

Balloonhearts · 08/12/2025 21:54

I'd get a drill and open up C. Something is in there and if you have one concealed room, high chance of another. I'd have to know, I couldn't live there and not know what was above my head.

Pp made a good point, the decor is very 70s but the lights are much more recent. 2000s at least.

I did run a quick search through a dark Web crawler but came up with nothing. Police would have access to much better ones though. I'd definitely email them with the pictures and see if it matches a background of anything they're trying to identify. It wasn't used for anything innocent or why is it hidden.

Why open a door into a crawl space if you could just walk in? They wanted it to look like a normal room maybe? I think you're right that the half wall is more recent. Perhaps put in by the previous owners to gain access to it?

Can you contact them to ask if they knew about it?

You are not giving off hysterical vibes at all

Wintersgirl · 08/12/2025 21:54

Is there anyway you can look on Zoopla or Rightmove and look at sold house details? Sometimes they have the old estate agents listings of the house, it might show on the floorplan even though it wasn't on the latest listing, failing that can you ask the previous owners?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/12/2025 21:54

So the little green door /hatch goes into the eves @Ohwhatswrong

why would anyone make a door there ?

or even wallpaper such a small space

I think you have to contact estate agent and ask them to ask the sellers what the room was used for

it looks so clean and no cobwebs

I have tons of cobwebs in my loft / when I go into jt / such is rare

tech a small space could be made in mine in the corner and I wouldn’t know

u3ername · 08/12/2025 21:55

@justasking111 Ah, right…

The previous owners omitted to say anything the first time around. I’m guessing they’d either not bother responding or will simply lie.

ThatCalmFinch · 08/12/2025 22:00

This is why our loft hatch has never been opened in six years of living here.

Hi @Ohwhatswrong

Love your post. I've been in my house for around 5 years (100 year old house) and have never been into my loft spaces (spider phobia). I've had workmen go up for pest control, electrics etc. So far so good but now intrigued having followed your thread. Appreciate the updates and pleased that you're happy in your home. Look forward to more updates. X

Weirder and weirder! I don’t know what plans you had for tomorrow @Ohwhatswrong but please cancel them and break open area C!

Whywhywhyyyy · 08/12/2025 22:02

Awful but same thing jumped to mind about child images. Half wall actually would make it easier to film/photograph. It’s like a spooky set. I would contact police. Hopefully it’s nothing.

God the thought of this makes me feel absolutely sick. I hope it is nothing OP

User28425 · 08/12/2025 22:05

My guess is when they partially boarded the loft, they experimented with boards and adding plugs to try and convert the loft themselves, but didn't finish the job. I don't understand why you haven't checked behind the boarded bit though, I would have to have done it immediately.

MargolyesofBeelzebub · 08/12/2025 22:08

"More like someone taking inappropriate photos of children type of room. That was my first thought and I still think that."

I'm sorry to say but that's the exact first thought I had too 😞Definitely notify police and send them the pics before you change wallpaper etc.

I literally just finished reading a book where a family moves into a new house, and the husband finds a secret room. There's an old armchair, a Welsh dresser, etc. in the room. And a bunch of momentos (glasses, wallet, watch, dog collar, etc) inside the dresser, kept by a serial killer, from the victims, who now wants the stuff back!

I read that book too!
