I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

That's how horror films start

Yeah, secret attic rooms are always haunted. Fact.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 06/12/2025 23:37

Cheap porno recordings is my guess.

I'm going, rather prosaically, for somebody's gaming/ TV/ reading room, depending on the era. The wallpaper looks vaguely 1980s-90s to me, so could be gaming. Can't stand distractions or stays up all night bothering family members, so they built this 'snug' for the teenager.

Interesting find, OP! Pity they hadn't already kitted it out with shelves, that could've been useful.

CantBreathe90 · 06/12/2025 23:37

😂 Sorry to be that person - looks like an old git or teenager "den" to me. Probably a telly up there when it was in use, for playing video games or watching DVDs, so the other previous inhabitants didn't have to deal with acne, moods and endless, noisy, low-pixel war games on the SEGA.

Ohwhatswrong · 06/12/2025 23:37

Sorry
We moved in in November. Been in and out the loft, husband didn't notice it and then the sky engineer came and he found it.
Has a few bits boarded, looks like a normal loft. We didn't even see it and we had been up there a good few times with unpacking.

Ahh so just a few weeks then.

It does look like a podcaster's set up.

Nowt sinister.

A Mrs Rochester perhaps?

Nah.

That’s creepy AF

Gingercar · 06/12/2025 23:40

My friend found similar in her house. It had a huge attic. All boarded out, but at the back, behind all the water tanks and undecorated areas was a room similar to the OP’s. They never did find out what it was for. The house already had a servant’s room on the main floor with a buzzer that you could press from all the other rooms (same in the kitchen), so it’s not like it was a servant’s quarter. And the loft was accessed by a ladder, not stairs. Very strange.

JFDIYOLO · 06/12/2025 23:40

One of my recurrent dreams is finding a secret room in a new place - attic, extension, cellar ...

Zonder · 06/12/2025 23:41

Frankly I am surprised it wasn't listed on the estate agent website as "spacious 5th bedroom".

pinkdelight · 06/12/2025 23:42

Yikes! That’s definitely some kind of amateur porn set. In a previous house We moved into, the owners left behind a similar set up in the loft but it was a ripped out car seat and there was a camera tripod opposite. The kid’s bedroom on the level below had a lock on the outside, presumably so they could get kept inside while mum and dad got up to god knows what in the loft. Yours looks even creepier with it being a hidden room. Although a handy place to hide in case of zombie invasion. Stash some prepper supplies up there maybe.

"How's the wife, Mr Rochester?"
"Oh, she's always in her reading nook walled into the attic with no toilet"

I laughed too much 🤣

Okiedokie123 · 06/12/2025 23:44

That’s really weird and creepy. Who were the previous owners and the ones before them etc. I’d do some digging into what they were like to try and work out why they created that space. Its purpose etc.

bigboykitty · 06/12/2025 23:45

I don't like it. Bad things have happened there.

I'm getting the initial 'J'. Does that mean anything to you love?

Littlejellyuk · 06/12/2025 23:46

Flowers in the attic vibes 😨
I reckon the chair was for poor old grandad, as he never shared his Wethers originals 😆

Ohwhatswrong · 06/12/2025 23:46

I can't see it being a games room as you need a ladder to get in, and there's enough space in the house.
The wallpaper doesn't give off manly vibes.
The house itself has a really nice homely feeling to it. We were even talking about how our other house had an unsettling feeling to it. We have two small children and a newborn and they have settled in really well but this weird room is really putting me off.

I literally just finished reading a book where a family moves into a new house, and the husband finds a secret room. There's an old armchair, a Welsh dresser, etc. in the room. And a bunch of momentos (glasses, wallet, watch, dog collar, etc) inside the dresser, kept by a serial killer, from the victims, who now wants the stuff back!

I was thinking of this book too! I can't remember what it was called.

Edited

A lock on the outside of the kids door?! What is wrong with people!
Absolutely love the prepper idea 😂
