To ask why exactly is Holly Willoughby so disliked these days?

Flauwa · 02/12/2025 14:37

No I’m not Holly or a member of her pr team.

I just don’t get why HW is so massively disliked these days. She doesn’t appear to have done anything wrong. But her presenting career has obviously taken a huge knock.

HW wasn’t the one messaging underage boys. We have no evidence to suggest she was aware of it. So why has she basically been banished?

Is this another example of women paying for men’s mistakes?

Im on a group chat and a nasty-ish comment was made about Holly and I just don’t get why.

I don’t dislike her -I just find her vacuous and false. 🤷‍♀️

She made a mistake whilst driving, which I see people do all the time, and unfortunately it caused an accident. She admitted to it and was prosecuted for it.

Ant McPartlin drunk drove twice the legal limit, caused an accident where a toddler had to go to hospital, gave a load of “wah, woe is me” media interviews in his defence, and still keeps winning TV awards. Oh that cheeky chap is so loveable we can forgive him.

Double standard much?

I don’t think that’s why people hate her though.
This driving incident was only August of this year.
The hate for her started well before this.

I don’t really know why.
I don’t particularly like/dislike her - can’t stand this morning or celebrity juice but nothing to do with her and never seen her in anything else.

SailingYachty · 02/12/2025 16:14

I’ve never met her so can’t say what she’s actually like IRL, but I agree with you OP, it does feel like people want to tear down successful women, enjoy calling them annoying, fake, desperate etc. Its quite pathetic and sexist!

I definitely don’t want to do that, there are many fantastic female people in media, it’s important to champion them.

She just happens to be not a nice person at all.

ExtraOnions · 02/12/2025 16:19

She knew what Schofield was up to, then lied to save herself. I have a friend who works in the show, and they told me about it years ago .. no chance she didn’t know.
Plus all the other bullying that went on

heartofsunshine · 02/12/2025 16:19

Popbitch is full of funny stories about her being an entitled dickhead and they are always right about these things 😂

kerstina · 02/12/2025 16:20

I liked her when she first started she seemed fun but then I started to think she was patronising with some guests and obviously a Tory which put me off . Please don’t let her present strictly . I would love to see Alex Jones of the one show do it.

Surely there’s no way they’d ask her to do Strictly, hasn’t Dancing on Ice been dropped? Haven’t watched it for years

heartofsunshine · 02/12/2025 16:23

Here's one that sums up the vibe:
Cat Deeley was gushing earlier this week about how lovely Holly Willoughby was in welcoming her to the This Morning job. Holly supposedly passed on the baton with a beautiful bunch of flowers and a handwritten card – a “classy move”.

It’s just a shame Holly wasn’t so classy in her own time at This Morning. She was infamous among crew members for not really bothering to get to know their names, and took the dubious honour of being the only presenter not to get Christmas presents for her co-workers.

Worst of all, in the crew’s eyes, she always took her on-screen birthday cake (paid for by the production) home at the end of her shift, without offering to share it.

but Holly isn’t the sexual predator! Why is she guilty by association? Seems very unfair!

The Queen paid off Andrew’s accuser. She died being absolutely revered and adored.

She knocked someone off their scooter and broke their neck. That's not very wholesome.

I think there's been a dislike of her way before that

Bumcake · 02/12/2025 16:25

muggart · 02/12/2025 15:33

she got a lot of hate due to philip schofield shagging that 20 year old (or however old he was).

I bear her no ill will personally.

I think it’s because of the way she threw him under the bus as soon as it was clear he was in hot water. She knew about the relationship no doubt and was fine with it, until it turned out other people thought it was dodgy.

Also, queuegate and the neck snapping.

So she would be more popular if she stood by a sexual predator?

WittyJadeStork · 02/12/2025 16:26

I don’t see what she’s done to generate the hate. She admitted fault to the driving, unlike Ant. Drink driving shouldn’t be acceptable and he basically got away with it.
Lots of people have known about lots of things that shouldn’t be happening and have kept quiet
I feel sorry for her over the stalking.
If she’d have been male none of it would have mattered

She did stand by him, until it seemed it would affect his job. Worst of both worlds!

I’ve no particular dislike for her but I do think she was overexposed on TV for several years. A lot of the negative comments I’ve seen lately relate to her being a rumoured candidate for the Strictly jobs and, to be honest, I would prefer to see somebody different.

I have huge sympathy for her over the stalker nightmare she went through.

But it’s not just that is it? She knew about it all according to many staff, went along with it all,,whereas Ruth, Eamon, Rylan etc helped the poor boy. Then she tried to back away when it got found out. Plus all the other things that have happened. Even without all that, what is so great about her presenter wise? There are many more who are of much better quality.
She was good looking, but that’s not enough

didn't know about but just read this!!

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 02/12/2025 16:34

I'm just glad we don't have the 'Carry On' cooking segment now that all three of them have been ousted in one way or another.

Gino Da Campo was even more unbearable than Pip with his fake accent and malapropisms.

Beyond creepy.

Friend of a friend who works in TV is very professional and never has a bad word to say about anyone, only ever says good things about people he works with, never ever has a single word to say about her.

I know someone who manages VIP flights... exactly the same story there too.

Catpiece · 02/12/2025 16:42

Flauwa · 02/12/2025 15:41

Was queuegate really THAT bad?

I didn’t think cutting in line was on but how many men have done far far worse than cut in line and not had their popularity crash.

I think it was probably because she was deemed as smug before the pushing in happened.

AtIusvue · 02/12/2025 16:42

The whole point of Hollys presenting shtick, was that she was the sort of girl/woman who you wanted to be gal pals with.

But there was a definite shift in energy when she no longer hung around with Fern and she was in every show going (in part because her husband is a big time tv producer). Her demeanour changed, you could smell the ambition and the warmth she had, seemed to disappear.

In fairness, I think it was also to do with no longer wanting to be seen just as a glamourous blonde sidekick/maturing, but in the process then she lost the reason why she was chosen to present in the first place. That’s why people don’t gravitate towards her anymore.

She has been unable to make the transition to mature tv presenter. I think with this conviction for dangerous driving and seriously injuring someone, I’m not sure if she will be able to make it back to TV.
