To ask why exactly is Holly Willoughby so disliked these days?

Flauwa · 02/12/2025 14:37

No I’m not Holly or a member of her pr team.

I just don’t get why HW is so massively disliked these days. She doesn’t appear to have done anything wrong. But her presenting career has obviously taken a huge knock.

HW wasn’t the one messaging underage boys. We have no evidence to suggest she was aware of it. So why has she basically been banished?

Is this another example of women paying for men’s mistakes?

Im on a group chat and a nasty-ish comment was made about Holly and I just don’t get why.

I don't think she has ever come across as sincere or authentic.

The whole ‘we’re still drunk after the Baftas, ho, ho’ was very inauthentic & ill judged IMHO. I am not target audience though & perhaps missed something (?)

Unfortunately this happened to someone else I know who was there to provide a beauty service. Anyone who makes it to prime time TV unlikely to be lovely this said, it takes a ruthlessness. Some are better at concealing than others.

Not true. Ben Shepherd and Christine Lampard are absolutely joyful, gorgeous lovely people who are adored by everyone.

There are several other less radiant stars who are also bloody lovely. To be honest, the horrors are few and far between and often it is the lesser known presenters/guests who are the worst. The proper big stars are usually very nice. I'll take looking after a genuine A lister over looking after a reality star any day of the week. ANY day.

climbintheback · 02/12/2025 21:50

She’s just got fined £1600 for driving without due care

Good to hear. Some ‘A listers’ IME are v transactional & performative in ‘niceness’ but perhaps that’s true for all at work (?) Tis true shrinking violets don’t get too far.

Rylan seems very genuine.

Yes, agree a lot is envy. I think she’s luminous & beautiful but beyond that don’t see much talent but same applies to many in TV presenter type roles. I think the envy gets worse when people/women are partic discontented & unhappy.

Edited

So if female envy is at the root of it, why aren't other good looking female presenters on the receiving end?

And plenty of male presenters are disliked. I am glad And & Dec, Philip Schofield, David Walliams, Vernon Kaye, Simon Cowell etc are mostly all off our screens.

I like Holly, I like Ant McPartlin, and I LOVED George Michael, and I agree, there is a tendency for people to bash and berate and 'punish' women more for anything, than when it's a man. Women always gets shit, hate, and vitriol for doing a certain thing, but you just get people saying 'meh' if a man does that same thing. Even my brother, uncles, and male cousins used to get much less hell from the parents for stuff than the girls in the family did. Girls/women ALWAYS get more hate. And especially famous/celebrity women.

I grew up with Ant & Dec on Byker Grove and loved them for years afterwards. Now I won't ever watch them, their sanctimonious smugness is deeply off putting and the fact that it was only luck that Ant didn't kill anyone but he showed precious little remorse over it. And don't even get me started on the tell all interview he did with The Sun, which nobody does voluntarily unless they've got something on them.

I felt indifferent to George Michael when he was alive but have always been uncomfortable about the near sainthood some people have bestowed on him in death. Like Ant, it is more luck than judgement that he never killed anyone and no amount of musical talent excuses that.

So I can honestly say that however much I dislike Holly and however much I judge her for her actions harming an innocent cyclist, it has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that she's a woman.

Ladamesansmerci · 02/12/2025 22:23

I think there's an element of sexism.

Lots of people still love Michael Jackson, a literal groomer.

Holly ditches a groomer, and is criticised. She has hit someone on a moped in an accident. If you read the articles, she didn't see the moped coming. She hasn't done it on purpose. She didn't drink drive like Ant. We have all been distracted and made mistakes driving. Unfortunately for Holly it's bad horrific consequences.

I have no opinion on her either way, but to hate her when men get away with worse all the time, seems ridiculous.

HRTQueen · 02/12/2025 22:25

I think she is a good presenter. I do not watch day time tv and never have but have seen her on clips and on other things and she has always been fine, she isn’t asking taxing questions as that hasn’t been her role neither does she make it about herself. She is always pleasant and professional

I never liked Celebrity Juice it’s so degrading to women but she apparently felt empowered by it, though it is her husband’s production company behind it so empowered financially

maybe she was on tv too much it happens with presenters but of course women are ridiculed more

Arlanymor · 02/12/2025 22:27

So BBC has published the story this evening... leaving out, what I think, are crucial details: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq5qw1dve46o

It's so obvious she is going to Strictly - already protecting one of their own.

A blonde woman with chin length hair and a pale purple dress. She smiles into the distance and a crowd of woman at a barrier stand behind her.

Holly Willoughby fined £1,600 for careless driving

The TV presenter drove her Mini Cooper without due care and attention near her home in Richmond.

Christ! Keith Lemon is the epitome of hideous! Can't bear the guy!
(Check out Usernames on here..).
I like Ant & Dec & plenty of female presenters.

You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about her. Maybe it was you that was the problem?

Me when there are numerous posters saying the same after meeting her? 😅 I was polite and friendly as I am to everyone and was actually quite upset by the incident and really shocked as it was like a completely different person to on television. The other celebrities with her were wonderful, just normal, down to earth and kind. I later found out this was more of a business relationship than friendship and they no longer speak as she pulled out of a deal for no reason leaving them hugely out of pocket.

Stucknstoopit · 02/12/2025 22:51

I don’t give a monkeys about the queens funeral queue bollocks but she was/ is seemingly incredibly close to Schofield and it appears his affair with the young lad he met as a school boy was a well known secret in itv, she must have known about it and she really could have done more to intervene and protect him

So could a whole host of older show business males re: Caroline Flack & Harry Styles e.g Simon Cowell.

FabulosaTurquoise · 02/12/2025 22:59

I have heard from a number of people who worked with her that she was a nasty piece of work, treated anyone she considered "below" her abominably.

Also, when she was having her house renovated, she couldn't give a toss about her neighbours. Happily starting noisy work at early hours at the weekend, blocking the road without any hesitation, and was extremely rude to anyone who asked her for any consideration at all.

Otherwise, I'm sure she's lovely...

SnobblyBobbly · 02/12/2025 23:01

I think after the queens funeral thing Holly & Phil crossed the line for lots of people from being fun and likeable to seeming entitled and a bit smug. Happens to the best of them. When the tide turns, it turns. Also, there’s no way she didn’t know about his runner mate - every other bugger knew so if they were so close, she must have and then she pretty much threw Phil to the wolves when it all came out. Oh plus his paedo brother was going to hurt her by association. That’s what it seems to me anyway. I think she’s had her day.

Ant n george didn't break anyones neck

Oh FGS, Holly didn't break anyone's neck. 🙄 This is the kind of thing this thread is about. Pure fake news and OTT Daily Mail type click bait, to make the public froth even more in their Holly Willoughby witch-hunt ...

She hit a motorcyclist with her car, ACCIDENTALLY, but she was deemed to be at fault, and was fined for driving without due care and attention. The man has a broken bone in his neck and he hurt his toe. He did not have any life altering or life threatening injuries. 🙄

Ant crashed into a car with a woman and a child in it, and did hurt them. She received as much injury as the man on the motorbike who Holly hit.

But let's hate on Holly, because she is a beautiful, successful woman. The man shouldn't get hate because ... well, he's a MAN!!! 🙄

Must be true then. If you 'heard' about it. 🙄

There are many people, myself included, who have met her and have seen the kind of person she is, have you?
Her name always comes up numerous times on threads with similar comments, you don’t see that about most other celebrities

Yes, I know a number of people who worked on the shows she worked on, and they said she was lovely. Perfectly nice, easy going, and a good laugh. 2 relatives of mine worked closely with her.

Funny how she was so different with others isn't it?

I think people just love to really pour shit and shade on her now because it suits, because she's not flavour of the month now. Human nature. Kick people when they're down. Not a nice trait.

We get it, some of you hate her. Don't expect others to, just because YOU do.
