To ask why exactly is Holly Willoughby so disliked these days?

Flauwa · 02/12/2025 14:37

No I’m not Holly or a member of her pr team.

I just don’t get why HW is so massively disliked these days. She doesn’t appear to have done anything wrong. But her presenting career has obviously taken a huge knock.

HW wasn’t the one messaging underage boys. We have no evidence to suggest she was aware of it. So why has she basically been banished?

Is this another example of women paying for men’s mistakes?

Im on a group chat and a nasty-ish comment was made about Holly and I just don’t get why.

I think her and Phil were a double act. Together we really liked to watch them - individually they arent that good! So even if you took the scandal with PS out of it - I think her career would have stalled without him in general.

Also im not sure, but i wondering if the problems she had with that awful stalker made her actually step back herself and work less. At one point she was EVERYWHERE - i guess that type of life isnt sustainable and maybe the stalker stuff spooked her about being so "out there" all the time. Or it possibly made her consider whats important in life and shes a more involved Mum now.

I really dislike the Fail but I have to admit it is the best for gossip. I often have to sit on my hands to avoid having a look.

I sometimes venuture on there, it is like being screamed at by a drunk! and the readers' comments are something else...

She’s gorgeous & lights up screen. Hence success I think.

Male presenters are rarely described like that

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 02/12/2025 21:08

I think because Phil got her the job but she dropped him with no remorse. What he did wasn't illegal but she was thinking about her career more than the friendship.

Went from girl-next-door to Aren't-I-great.

Jumping the queue didn't help.

She also made a pact with Fern Cotton, to leave that ITV2 show together, but when Fern left, Holly said she'd changed her mind.

Then there was the Peter Jones thing, good friends, she was supposed to front him and his wife's new brand, got to the final stages and she pulled out and started her own brand.

All fine to change your mind etc, but just left a bad taste in people's mouths.

And who cares if they did? Celebrities always get perks.

I think what annoyed people more was that they lied about it

Ant McPartlin didn't get anywhere near the same hate for drink driving and causing an accident with a child in the car. So I don't think it is just her dangerous driving that caused the issue. I think qeuegate did cause a lot of distaste towards her although they did explain the press passes and how they were there in a professional capacity not personal like David Beckham so I do think that was unfair.

I think her presenting definitely improved over the years but I never warmed to her. I remember them both presenting This morning after the NTA s when they turned up in the outfits from the night before and it all just seemed so contrived. Her and Phil always had injokes on the show and I felt they were rude to people they had on at times. She was always up his backside till it was no longer in her best interests to do so. Her statement with all the pauses and sighs was so disingenuous.

I would have more respect for her had she said that they were friends and whilst she didn't want to say anything to hurt him she was disappointed in what she was learning. She could have said something along the lines of hoping he got his turn to share his side of the story. Instead she well and truly threw him under the bus which whilst well deserved just illustrated how ruthless she is. She wasn't the only presenter to do so but Dermot and Alison handled it much better.

I think she would actually do quite well on Strictly if she was doing Tess's role. I'd just prefer if they gave someone else a chance.

Except they didn’t have press passes and weren’t there in a professional capacity, that was made up because of all the bad press they got!

Apparently a lot of people care. I don’t care but I also don’t think they did push in

Oh dear. This is becoming a HW pile-on. I hope she doesn’t read this. She’s had a bad day!

Couldn't gaf, sorry

I could give or take Holly, I don't have any feelings towards her tbh

But,

Wholesome means someone who is kind, moral, and genuinely good, exhibiting positive traits like compassion, honesty, and trustworthiness

I've only just read the article but it was a genuine accident wasn't it, she stayed with the victim until the police arrived, gave him water and admitted guilt as soon as the police arrive

She showed several wholesome traits in those interactions 🤷‍♀️

Someone who doesn't indicate or check mirrors, whilst driving a dangerous machine is not particularly trustworthy in my book. she was driving dangerously

Audiprettier · 02/12/2025 18:12

It was the "Are you alright?" Skin-crawling line/speech on This Morning to the public when it all blew-up!!

Her and PS BOTH got too big for their boots!! (& yeah the mistake ref: losing the Queen was awful too).
He also made a scathing remark about a woman live on a help-line call to the programme, she must've been mortified! I was FOR her.

Holly Willoughby was so sickly sweet. Glad she went off screen. Really hope she doesn't get Strictly.🤞🏻😩

Thank you

Zov · 02/12/2025 21:21

GumFossil · 02/12/2025 20:53

I agree (although I’m pretty sure the dead Queen was lying-in-state rather than spending time languishing between actual states 😆)

LOL did I say interstate?! 😆

Eeeeeeeejit. (ME of course!) 😆

nomas · 02/12/2025 21:22

Is it just not over exposure? Holly presented Dancing on Ice for years so people will be groaning at the idea of her being on Strictly if it happens.

It's the same with Romesh, people just get tired of seeing the same celebs in everything.

I didn't know about the accident, that's terrible. It could happen to anyone, though I hope she will make a significant contribution to the poor man.

Ezzee · 02/12/2025 21:24

LemonDrizzleKay · 02/12/2025 18:36

What would you have done? Genuine question. Not sure what I would have done if I was her.

What would I have done, I would have shopped him the minute I knew he was grooming a young person and distanced myself asap, even if it was detrimental to my career.

333FionaG · 02/12/2025 15:32

She knocked someone off their scooter and broke their neck. That's not very wholesome.

People get involved in road accidents all the time, she didn't do it deliberately.

That was a few months ago anyway and the vitriol towards her goes back a lot further than that.

I think a lot of people (mostly women it seems) don't like attractive, successful women so shoot them down whenever possible.

I agree at the beginning it was that, but then it became too much as she was everywhere. She is lovey looking, but then so are many many others who also light up the screen.

Off topic, but George Michael drove while under the influence of drugs and I've never read of anyone criticising him for this.

I like Holly, I like Ant McPartlin, and I LOVED George Michael, and I agree, there is a tendency for people to bash and berate and 'punish' women more for anything, than when it's a man. Women always gets shit, hate, and vitriol for doing a certain thing, but you just get people saying 'meh' if a man does that same thing. Even my brother, uncles, and male cousins used to get much less hell from the parents for stuff than the girls in the family did. Girls/women ALWAYS get more hate. And especially famous/celebrity women.

Thankfully I've never hit anyone with my car but I did come very close to a cyclist once as a new driver decades ago. It scared the life out of me (and her) and I now give cyclists plenty of space and leeway. I think we've all had a near scrape. She did hit him and caused him serious injury so I hope she does the decent thing.

AwfullyGood · 02/12/2025 21:36

I don't think she has ever come across as sincere or authentic.

Yes, agree a lot is envy. I think she’s luminous & beautiful but beyond that don’t see much talent but same applies to many in TV presenter type roles. I think the envy gets worse when people/women are partic discontented & unhappy.

True, the likes of Ant & Dec are not going to win beauty comps. Are there many/any less attractive, talented women presenters?

I suppose its completely out of order to distance yourself from a groomer and to take a step back from the limelight when a stalker plotted to kill you!

I have heard rumours that she isn't always as nice to staff as perhaps her public image is geared towards, but that is just gossip as far as I know.

It’s not he distancing herself from the groomer that’s problematic - it’s that it was openly done in front of her for years and she said and did nothing until there was a chance it could damage her reputation.
