to think Vernon Kay is a misogynistic idiot...

I mean... it's very clear poor old Vernon 'professional northerner' Kay is not the sharpest tool in even the most meagre box. But I am really fed up with him on Radio 2 constantly referring to Taylor Swift only by reference to her fiancé Travis Kelcie (an American football player for anyone that doesn't know).

He keeps doing it (today an eg) - clearly gets complaints - but dismisses these in the same misogynistic tone as "daft Taylor Swift fans". His excuse is basically, “that’s how I know her, thats my field” — as if a radio DJ somehow doesn’t know the name of the most successful artist in the world. I mean I get he has no music background and is a minor TV presenter not an actual dj but still ...

It just feels misogynistic and really derogatory. He wouldn’t talk about a male artist through the lens of who they’re dating.

It makes him look ridiculous and really grinds my gears (as a feminist rather than any particular TS super fan).

Interesting too that he focuses on the clearly less famous male partner of a very high profile woman too. Wonder why that could be....

So her song The Fate of Ophelia is played constantly at the moment and he will introduce it as "and that was Travis Kelcie's fiance who is a (blah bah) for the kansas chiefs with fate of Ophelia. And then some bloody waffle about some american football game at the weekend.

Clearly a very minor thing to be annoyed about but its so irrelevant (at best). He is so stupid he doesn't even realise he is being misogynistic. I've heard him do it a few times and today he did it again - and then said - ah I get complaints about this from the Swifties but this is my field and how I know her. Every single time. Its not a radio show about american football you a**hole.

Get over it.

Looks like you can't tell it's someone who likes American Football doing something funny. Or have a massive agenda. I can guess which one. Women aren't this special, and neither is Taylor Swift. If he does this for ever female singer ever, then come back for an actual inteigent basis for a discussion. Until then you are just whining for a massively overhyped multimillionaire purveyor of generic music, massively glorified by a fanbase who is disturbing at best.

I have never listened so that makes me very well qualified to have a lot of opinions about Vernon Daly's show and all the work he's done. I have reached the conclusion that he's mediocre, bland and untalented, through the zero interest I've ever paid him. I think Tess needs to get her husband in hand. As the texting scandal shows, it's not good for married men to work. He needs to submit to his wife and remember that she's in charge.

I haven’t heard him but if he refers to an artist as the partner of someone when introducing their song then yes it’s in very poor taste. He’s a shit bag though isn’t he? Embarrassed Tess by messaging a Page 3 girl, gross. Hardly surprising he’s misogynistic.

Checknotmymate · 27/11/2025 17:01

I remember reading an interview with him that said he didnt like Tess without make up and needed her to get up and put make up on in a separate bathroom before he could look at her.

ILoveHotChocolates · 27/11/2025 17:03

She wants to be seen as his fiance first and foremost so let her get on with it.

But that was a JOKE .... so it's fine.

Love that those claiming great subtlety of thought can't detect misogyny dressed up as a joke.

Totally agree OP, I switch off now… can’t believe we lost Zoe Ball for Scott Mills and Vernon Kay! And then bloody Jeremy Kyle. there no women out there for Radio 2???

Thankyourose · 27/11/2025 17:06

Vernon Kay is the Worst. Cannot bear him. Banging on about the 5 seconds he was a truck driver…

LadyKenya · 27/11/2025 17:07

Prelim · 27/11/2025 15:45

I think his full name is Vernon Sext Pest Kay.

That’s how I’ve heard of him anyway, oh any the husband of Tess Daly. Maybe he’s just a bitter as he’s also the lesser successful partner.

Why is he the lesser partner in your eyes? He has a good career, as does it Wife. Why try to diminish him like that, it is unnecessary.

AlltheHedgehogsontheWall · 27/11/2025 17:08

ILoveHotChocolates · 27/11/2025 17:03

What on earth are you basing that on? The fact that she sometimes references him and hasn't kept her relationship a secret? Or the fact she's spent most of the time they've been together on the most successful tour ever and promoted and released 3 best-selling albums since they met?

Undecided2025 · 27/11/2025 17:11

Please edit thread title to ‘to think Tess Daly’s husband…’

He literally presents a late night American Football show on TV - so yes it is his field of expertise.

Met him once at about 4am in Vegas, he was very very drunk and tried to get us to go and play the tables with him - not in a chatting up sleazy way, just friendly. His brother (Mr Kay the Maths Teacher) made sure he went home to bed instead

Runnersandtoms · 27/11/2025 17:14

It's a joke but an annoying one.

Which is great.

So when he is on his late night tv American football show he can wang on about Travis Kelcie to his heart's content. When he is on his daytime mainstream radio show playing current music he might want to think about how & why he is shoehorning references in to him when playing someone else's music.

She’s gone on and on about it.

Let’s not act like her latest album sales haven’t been fuelled by over 40 different “limited edition” variants to push sales. She’s successful, good for her, but she wants to be seen as his fiance so let her crack on. As another poster has said, Vernon Kay presents a show about the NFL. That is obviously his frame of reference.

It does seem a bit odd. He clearly thinks he's being funny or clever or cool or something but it just sounds daft. Ive never understood the appeal of VK. Hes a bit of a wanker.

LittleBitofBread · 27/11/2025 17:21

Well from that it sounds like he's clearly doing it deliberately. Is it an elaborate joke? (I don't think it's funny, I think it's dismissive and, yes, misogynistic, but can imagine radio bods planning it, sitting and snorting about it and thinking it's going to be a right hoot).

She wants to be seen as (and objectively is) one of the most successful recording and touring artists of all time, who is also in a happy relationship. Part of what has made their relationship successful is his willingness to take a back seat to her career, which is the first and most important love of her life. Your comment is deeply misogynistic. No-one says that every man who gets married and talks about their excitement at being in love with someone wants to be seen purely as someone else's fiance.

I don't really like him at all. But I guess he just really likes American football and is trying to shoehorn it into the show. I know the mainstream media in the UK are desperately trying to make AF a 'thing' atm. Which I doubt will happen as it can only really ever be a spectator sport. You can't play it impromptu in the park or in a school yard.
Maybe he's being told to talk about it?

Maybe he's less of a fan of TS music and slightly resents having to play it? Who knows. But idk if that makes him misogynistic.

I think you might mean Jeremy Vine, so that proves that you no longer listen, unlike the OP who clearly doesn’t understand it’s not mandatory listening…no pun intended there.

TicklishReader · 27/11/2025 18:05

Swifties are strange.

OneBadKitty · 27/11/2025 18:09

He's being ironic FFS! Not everyone is obsessed with TS either.

I like Vernon and think he's actually one of the most decent men on the TV/Radio.

Fionasapples · 27/11/2025 18:09

It's a joke to wind people up and it looks like it's worked.
