Knickers under pyjamas yay or nay

Discussion with friends. Very heated disagreement. Unreasonable wearing knickers . Reasonable not wearing knickers

I think it probably depends when you tend to wash and the type of nightwear you prefer? I’m firmly in the ‘no knickers’ camp but I shower in the evening and wear loose pyjamas bottoms so I only change my pyjamas every 3 nights 🤷🏼‍♀️

No knickers but I do change pj's every couple of days.

This is why I don’t wear pyjamas. Unhygienic with none if you wear them more than once. Itchy and hot if you wear them with knickers

You will be shocked to know my very dirty friends don’t wear knickers and only change their pyjamas once a week!!!

I find the “airing out” point odd. You’re still wearing pyjamas, and you’re under a duvet, how much airflow is there??

I don't know if we are talking about lounging around in the evening - in which case it would be knickers and pjs, or actually sleeping in bed - in which case neither, just a T shirt

Wearing knickers with PJs would make me sweat. Also they’d go in to my creases so definitely no. My PJs are very loose and go nowhere near my crotch so usually wear them twice.

Shower in the evening and then it's knickers and pyjamas for me. I change my pyjamas every 2 days.
Although, I tend not to wear the pyjama bottoms in bed because they annoy me, have recently started wearing leggings in bed instead, they're so comfortable! Still have my knickers on underneath though.

I wear my pyjamas two nights; first night knickers underneath, second night none but they're straight into the washing basket. If I got sweaty on the first night, which might happen in summer, I don't go a second night.

My nethers aren't arsed about getting an airing, there's been no complaints.

It was only when I was in my 30s and in hospital did I find out some women actually wore knickers under their nighties.
And then only since I started reading MN threads a couple of years ago I found some women wear knickers under their pyjamas !
Goodness knows what the next revelation will be.

One of the joys of getting ready for bed is getting all the restrictive underwear off! I slept nude for many years, graduated to pyjamas, but now prefer a nightie. No knickers.

If you think this is a strange discussion you would be horrified if you heard some of the things my close friends and I discuss!

This is one of those MN regular threads but always fascinates me! I was brought up no knickers, and if I ever have to wear knickers like on period sometimes (if v heavy, usually I just use Mooncup so still no knickers) it feels hot and restrictive. Having air and space down there feels better. Change jammies every second night. Shower most days. My vagina is not a disgusting smelly place as some people seem to think vaginas are!!

Knickers but I tend not to wear pj bottoms in bed as my legs get too hot.

Never wear knickers (unless on my period and still then find it uncomfortable then!) with my PJs or in bed to be honest! We are both (DH & I) are naked sleepers!

Why wouldn't you put pants on under your pj's. Do people go naked in their pj's. Yuk. Do they not wear pants in their day clothes too .. strange. Made up mn thing surely. Everyone wears pants

No pyjamas or pants for sleeping. I put pjs on in the morning with no pants

Knickers because I often get hot in bed and take my pj bottoms off. I dont want to be starkers as that feels unhygienic.

No knickers and change pyjamas everyday. DM never allowed us to wear knickers to bed.

I was advised by the midwife that it can contribute to thrush.

I don’t think I own any knickers I could wear under pjs. I used to have great big maternity granny knickers after giving birth but now I only have thongs and a couple of pair of ‘suck me in knickers’ for particular outfits. I do change pjs every couple of nights though.

My mam always told me to air it at night and not to wear anything too tight as you’d overheat and get thrush. Same with socks, none at night to help regulate your temperature. Although I do have some big fluffy ones for the depths of winter.
No idea if there’s any scientific basis but I tell my DD to do the same.
