Discussion with friends. Very heated disagreement. Unreasonable wearing knickers . Reasonable not wearing knickers

Wearing something close fitting like knickers restricts the air flow, traps moisture and increases the risk of things like yeast infections. Most people wear loose fitting pjs so removing underwear does have its benefits. Like most things though it’s personal preference and just because certain behaviour increases risk the outcome isn’t inevitable.

Personally though I can’t wait to get the buggers off

Nope, I have always worn cotton knickers, no moisture gets trapped (!) and never had yeast infections, not even during 5 pregnancies.

I never wear PJs as they’d annoy me getting bunched up when turning around at night, especially loose ones. I shower before getting into bed and wear knickers and a tight fitting vest top as I don’t like night dresses for the same reason. Quilt is thick enough not to get cold in winter.

I’d much rather just wear knickers than PJ bottoms especially as cotton allows air to skin anyway and I best most peoples PJs are rarely all cotton (nylon, polyester etc) so their vag will not be airing out especially under bedding as well no matter how many old wives tales they tell themselves 😂

Bonus that I only have to wash a pair of knickers and a small vest top daily rather than a set of PJs cos I’d never put on a pair of PJ bottoms I’d worn without knickers twice. That’s more likely to cause thrush!

Pearlmaster500 · 22/11/2025 21:44

For the butt naked sleepers… do you do this all winter aswell?!

IcedPurple · 22/11/2025 21:45

Knickers. Always.

Otherwise I'd feel I have to wash my pyjama bottoms every night, whereas with knickers I can get at least 4 nights out of them. Also, pyjamas don't feel very comfortable against your foof.

MightyGoldBear · 22/11/2025 21:45

Does no one else get discharge? Obviously different at different times of the month but without knickers I'd be going through tons of sheets and pj's !

seasid · 22/11/2025 21:46

Unless I’m wearing a nightie - I will never wear bra or knickers. I’ve also raised my child to not wear underwear at night either. I guess it depends on how you were raised, I grew up with my mum telling us kids to let your bits ‘breathe’ - so it just became a thing that I acknowledged and it’s all I knew. I prioritise comfort and not wearing underwear, especially as a woman is comfortable and can prevent UTI’s as it’s not there rubbing constantly. When I was at uni and had friends stay, I remember being shocked to realise they slept in a bra - like that’s the first thing that comes off when I come home, and has been that way since I was about 14 years old. Sleeping in a bra by choice is wild stuff

seaelephant · 22/11/2025 21:48

No knickers, they're uncomfortable in bed and I like to let it breathe. I also wear them more than once

StampOnTheGround · 22/11/2025 21:48

Always knickers, I had no clue people did anything else and now I’m baffled 😂

TiggyTomCat · 22/11/2025 21:48

Nightie and no knickers! 😀

For all those people sleeping naked, at this time of year do you have the heating on over night? My heating is set to go off at 11pm and comes back on at 6am. If I slept naked I'd be cold.

And I always have to have my feet covered because otherwise the foot fairy might get me. If I wore no pants I'd be worried the fanny fairy might come a visiting

No heating on. The house is well insulated so holds heat ok overnight. Also have a heavy duvet and 6ft DH who clings to me like a limpet and generates Chernobyl levels of heat

LowShelfEsteem · 22/11/2025 21:49

Stillpoor · 22/11/2025 21:33

Me to i also wear a bra not a tight one but a nice soft one.
I once got told that wearing a bra to bed was disgusting, and would make my boobs sag.
20 some odd years latter id like to say my boobs are not sagging, and the old hag was wrong.

Yes! Surely our way would help sag, not cause it!

Aren’t the joins in the fabric in PJs in the vag area more likely to rub and cause UTIs than knickers which have a gusset designed to prevent that?

Do PJs have gussets nowadays?

What happens during period bleeding?

Team knickers.

Obviously you wear protection during your period, that doesn't mean you have to wear knickers the other 75% of your life.

..I find it comfortable to wear as little as possible, so no knickers. I don't know why anyone would want to wear the knickers they've worn all day to bed, unless you wear new knickers in bed, in which case, what a waste! Who has time for double washing?!

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 22/11/2025 21:51

Absolutely knickers (Primark Thongs pack of 5, so comfy)
Pyjamas have seams and chafe.

Frugalgal · 22/11/2025 21:52

KickHimInTheCrotch · 22/11/2025 21:40

I hate knickers. Definitely no knickers at night, ideally no knickers at any time.

Me too, they're so uncomfortable and when you're not in the habit of wearing them, it's so much worse.

Notashamed13 · 22/11/2025 21:52

I only wear knickers 🙆

I wear fresh ‘night knickers’ (I have some that are larger and more comfortable that I wear at night)

Thongs?? Like up your bum crack?

I couldn’t wear those at night! It’s comfy slouchy big knickers for me.

Mistletoewench · 22/11/2025 21:54

Always told by my mum to “let your bottom breath at night” so I guess I’m the no knickers brigade 😆

I've never found discharge on my sheets (I don't wear knickers or pyjama bottoms) and I do look.

LegoLivingRoom · 22/11/2025 21:55

There’s no way I could sleep without pants on. Even in the height of summer, when I don’t wear pjs, the pants stay on.

Angelchick1971 · 22/11/2025 21:57

I don't wear pj's or knickers for bed. Naked is the only way

Brightbluesomething · 22/11/2025 21:57

Pearlmaster500 · 22/11/2025 21:44

I only sleep naked if I’m sleeping with someone else in the bed who can create a heat source. No heating on overnight, I’m northern. We were taught not to.

Kreepture · 22/11/2025 21:57

AMBOG · 22/11/2025 20:56

You will be shocked to know my very dirty friends don’t wear knickers and only change their pyjamas once a week!!!

Team No knickers, and i change my PJ's every 3 nights.

What i am shocked at is you calling your friends 'very dirty'

Aren't you a lovely friend.

Goinggreymammy · 22/11/2025 21:58

I wear knickers. Used to sleep with neither and can't reremember when or why I changed, or what I did as a child.
But... since a few repeated bad doses of pinworms in the house about 4 years ago I have my children wear knickers under their PJs and change them in the morning as this helps prevent the eggs getting everywhere/spread.

Really? How big are your pants that an extra pair a day would take up room in the wash 😂

I go through 3 pairs a day when I go the gym as I shower afterwards. 3 showers a day then too!
