So for background im a single parent of 3. 2 uni age kids, one older but has additional needs. All 3 live with me still. Im supporting all 3 more or less full. Their father is no contact and has been for over a decade.

I work full time and earn a salary of £40k. Which on paper is ok. In reality, more or less funding 4 adults, not so much. The kids contribute what they can. They pay for their own items. My eldest works part time which is about as much as he can manage. But its not enough. My wage doesnt stretch far enough. I run out of money every month. Theres rent bills heating food etc all falls on me and i cant survive. Theres no luxuries. No fun. No anything. When they move out ill manage but at the minute its impossible. And i cant expect them to contribute more. The eldest doesnt have the capacity and the other two need uni to be the priority they are both doing courses that are intense and do a lot of work outside of lectures.

Im single. However. I have a friend who i hook up with. Its safe. Hes safe. But i have no desire to live with someone and share a life. We date, kinda, go out for drinks sometimes or the cinema, hook up, and have fun.

The idea is he manages an account i make. He makes vids, edits, promotes, markets etc. I do the chats, conversations etc in the eve. We split anything earned, more to me. My suggestion not his. All my idea.

i know its not guaranteed money, infact the opposite, it takes a lot of effort to make something. He has the time to market etc. i dont. It would be faceless. I wouldnt put my face out there. But pretty much anything else goes.

I just cant manage at the minute. Earning more in my role is impossible at the moment. Theres no second jobs i can do. No local bar work. I dont drive. I have no “talents” for an etsy side hustle. I dont have the money to buy equipment to start a printing side hustle or something. I dont have the time for much around my job at the moment. Theres just not other way to make money. Im out of idea and i need to make a few hundred a month to keep my head above water now im funding 4 adults alone pretty much.

The concern is obviously my kids, even though they are all adults. We are a pretty liberal open family and discuss anything and everything. Id probably tell them, but its still a worry.

Would you do it? Could you do it? Have you done it? Can you suggest an alternative?

I am sure you have considered it but what would your employer say if they found out about OF?

Good luck OP

I guess you really need to be made of strong stuff to endure it all 😵‍💫.

Honestly, I think she finds it sort of empowering to take the money of men who are happy to pay for smashed up cake.

One of the most valuable parts of uni is living independently and learning to manage your money (or at least trying!). So I don't think there is any harm in saying to your kids 'really need you all to contribute a bit more financially, so can you all try and get an extra shift a week'. It sounds like that would make a massive difference to you and not impact on their uni experience at all. I'm sure they'd all much rather hear that than 'kids, mum's doing OnlyFans'!

This, encouraging them to contribute more is a vastly better option and parenting lesson even at their age than doing only fans rather than reasonably expect them to contribute more.

Working through uni is completely normal.

PoliteSquid · 15/11/2025 13:21

Where do all the PP saying “your uni kids need to get a job” actually live?! Part time work is incredibly difficult to find for students and young people. In fact for anyone. My DS applied for a Saturday job, they rejected him because he goes to college and couldn’t pick up extra hours on an ad hoc basis. That was in a local cafe, same in most other places. This is true for most of his mates too, only one has a job - on his grandparents’ farm.

Well the OP’s children both already have part time jobs…

PilatesAndLattes · 15/11/2025 13:43

You won’t make anything as a faceless late 30s/40s? mum. Yes there is a market for Milfs, but you will need to show your face and open up to your audience to achieve a following.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 15/11/2025 13:45

Shoving stuff up my fanny for tuppence would not be my go to idea if I needed to make a few bob.

It's so sad that you think this is a good idea. And a ready made pimp no less. One who you shag on a regular basis too.

There a younger girls out there who show their faces and fannies and shove sex toys up their arse holes and barely make any money.

What makes you think this will bring in the big bucks? Especially when you have to give a percentage to your pimp?

usedtobeaylis · 15/11/2025 13:45

Glowingup · 15/11/2025 13:35

They need to pay for their own food. No ifs or buts. They have the minimum student loan but no rent and a part time job. They need to pay you £30 a week for food each. Then things would hopefully be easier.

Agree. Helping when they can just isn't feasible any more. They need to contribute regularly.

Doesn’t matter. Get a higher paying job. I think it’s all excuses and a cop out.

Only on MN. “Just get a higher paying job!”

Not everyone can get themselves a high paying job?

Barney16 · 15/11/2025 13:50

Apologies because I haven't read all posts. Any room for a lodger or a student to rent a room? If you have any debt stick it on a 0 credit card. OF would be a no from me unless it was some very niche nonsense which isn't actually particularly revealing. Somomes already mentioned tights, some one strokes stones and gets paid for that. Now to be honest if someone said I will pay you £40 to stroke a stone I'd be inclined to give it ago.

therole · 15/11/2025 10:47

what comes to mind first is I defo wouldn’t tell the kids OP

Yes. So dont do it.

3luckystars · 15/11/2025 13:54

They say most houses have 2k worth of stuff in the attic. If you have anything to sell, do that. They can’t have a total free ride at college to the point where you are thinking of doing this.

PumpkinSpiceAndEverythingNice · 15/11/2025 13:55

I don’t have an issue with people doing it, but you’d need to have something individual. There’s loads of women willing to put their faces on, so I’m not sure why people would sign up and pay for headless images or videos without some other kind of pull.

Daydreamnotbeliever · 15/11/2025 11:23

Matched gambling etc you need the upfront money to start. I have no money to do that.

You don't need much at all for matched betting. I started with less than £100 and made around £3000 before moving on to casino offers. You could start with £20 but it would take longer.

breezyyy · 15/11/2025 13:56

IvedoneitagainhaventI · 15/11/2025 10:54

It sounds as though this guy is going to be your pimp.
No doubt you will get pressure to perform more and more extreme acts to make any money: that is what happens.
I'd rather starve and keep my self respect.

I agree. You’d have to be able to completely trust him.

medievalpenny · 15/11/2025 14:03

The idea is he manages an account i make. He makes vids, edits, promotes, markets etc. I do the chats, conversations etc in the eve. We split anything earned, more to me. My suggestion not his. All my idea.

Saying it's your idea doesn't mean he couldn't be prosecuted for controlling prostitution for gain. It's a criminal offence.

There are some unhelpful replies on this thread but also plenty of helpful ones. Some of them individually might only make a small difference but those differences will add up.

Have you put all your outgoings down on paper and gone through your budget? Explored every avenue of financial support including food banks.

I'm sure your children would rather pick up a few extra shifts than have you resort to prostitution to cover their living costs.

LadySuzanne · 15/11/2025 14:07

Cheesypasta · 15/11/2025 12:13

This. A friend with benefits is one thing, a pimp is another. My respect for him would drop for suggesting it. But I do think you should tell your adult kids you're considering this as income is limited, and see if they then go and get part time jobs, as they should.

It was OP's suggestion - not the suggestion of the FWB.

In her first post, OP says:

"The idea is he manages an account i make. He makes vids, edits, promotes, markets etc. I do the chats, conversations etc in the eve. We split anything earned, more to me. My suggestion not his. All my idea."

If OP lives in a small town and doesn't drive, she might be hampered by lack of transport, especially at night, but I also wondered about babysitting or sitting with elderly people at night or weekends while the relative who cares for them has a break.

OP, I may have missed it, but did you apply for typing work online? Did the site charge you for the initial assessment? Was it a genuine business?

As you haven't said what field of work you do, it's more difficult to make suggestions based on your skills.

LadySuzanne · 15/11/2025 14:12

unleashthebook · 15/11/2025 13:46

Only on MN. “Just get a higher paying job!”

Or "Can't you take in ironing?"

The OP has no transport so she'd be reliant on her potential customers dropping off and picking up.

Sodthesystem · 15/11/2025 14:16

Thats not going to make much money. Not much call for faceless titillation out there.

Also I don't care how decent you think this guy is. He's a fucking pimp if he agreed to your suggestion. A decent man would have been horrified. Do not give this 'man' control over images of you.

As for the kids, if you're at the point you are considering selling yourself so they can continue uni, it's time for them to leave uni. University is expensive and not a necessity. They can go back in adulthood if they need to but realistically look at your earnings after uni ... It's possible they can get jobs that earn that without it. And more. Someone in the family needs to be practical ffs.

SergeantWrinkles · 15/11/2025 14:19

He’s suggesting he acts as your pimp, you run the risk of destroying your mental health, losing the respect of your kids and allowing a man to have explicit videos of you in his possession. I just wouldn’t op. I’d rather get a second job in a pub or something tbh. I think it’s nit the fix you think it is.

StruggleFlourish · 15/11/2025 14:20

Respectfully, for your situation, only fans and other such "selling yourself online" sites are oversaturated. You have to be willing to do something so creative, so different, so niche, it might be out of your comfort level, plus you'll probably have to show your face (which is not something you'd be wanting to do) in order to make any decent money.

As mentioned previously, if your friend is doing all the editing, then your friend has an awful lot of power/control by having access to all of your footage... Especially if they're keeping this a secret from everybody. Not saying your friend would double cross you but, when you put your trust in someone you have to be awfully careful.

I think the biggest detriment to this idea is that you'd have to put a lot of time and effort into doing the work at the beginning to start up, a lot of hours, and I'm not just talking about the filming. I'm talking about research. You going to have to do so many hours of looking up what Men are looking for on these sites and you know what, it's a freaking rabbit hole.

So let's just pretend you find your niche, the perfect location, decide what you're going to do, do hours of filming (which believe me, it takes way longer and way more it takes then you think and typically, editing takes 10 times longer than what you see on screen). You have to pay for subscriptions, and I'm not sure about only fans but a lot of these types of online sites don't pay you the way that you'd like to be paid, they make you sign up for some weird online banking platform that you've never heard of before and you're not 100% sure if it's even legitimate, and they don't let you choose your method of payment. It's a little sketchy feeling, and I understand that it seems like fast easy money but, it really really isn't.

Oh, and even if you enjoy or don't mind performing, your editor is the one doing all the real work. The behind the scenes amount of work time and skill needed...we're talking creative titles, descriptions, SEO optimization, advertising your content over different platforms, thumbnails, scripting... there is absolutely so much that goes on behind the scenes, I wouldn't be surprised if your editor friend would ask for the lion's share of the cut because they're doing the lion's share of the work. And, if for some reason you lose your editor who's doing all this behind the scenes work, you won't be able to do it yourself. Trying to set up your own camera and film yourself doing whatever you're doing, it's going to look so incredibly amateur, and then you have to do all the computer/editing work too. And you can't exactly advertise "help wanted, looking for someone to edit my only fans video... Must be discreet and completely trustworthy and willing to share 50% of the profits or less."
Not trying to put you off the idea, Just trying to help by offering some realistic advice

SergeantWrinkles · 15/11/2025 14:20

And I’m in the same position as you op, just to add. So I know exactly what you’re going through. Still a hard no.

GinaandGin · 15/11/2025 14:21

Daydreamnotbeliever · 15/11/2025 10:49

My wage is actually higher than average for my degree.

Urrghhh I hate this race to the bottom of "get a higher paying job"
A wage should be enough to cover the essentials, especially a graduate profession
I'm in health care and i hear this from the public... you should leave and get a higher paying job..... nurses are now leaving and public are... oh the hospital s are so short staffed

BlueDwarf · 15/11/2025 14:21

Very few women make enough on only fans to make a living worth selling your own dignity and the respect of your children for.

And then you have the risk of your children or their friends, friends parents, teachers etc. coming across any 'content' you have made, and the consequences of that. Because if only one person sees it that knows you it will soon spread like wildfire. And the fact someone you know was on there looking in the first place will be lost, but you and your children will bear the social and psycological brunt.
