correct me if I have missed anything here on this… but has the news gone quiet on the woman who was attacked unprovoked in Birmingham? Do we know who done it?!

But presumably they’ll just go and buy another knife?

Gosh, you got me there. Yes, they probably will. Ok, we won’t bother trying to stop them.

Blizzardofleaves · 10/11/2025 08:09

Why on earth did he do it? British national is fairly meaningless if he has been radicalised in some way by incels/religious or racial hate agenda etc.

I feel we need a new more nuanced and refined approach to identifying underlying issues in this country, and what is causing them.

Oh-you don’t actually want to address the issue-you just want to do something very expensive and ineffective, but performative. Fair enough.

Removing skunk and knives from dangerous people is not performative. It’s certainly a step up from the total non-policing of our streets we currently have.

Im sure you don’t like it because liberals are always up in arms about racial profiling.

Frankly Im past caring.

I suppose it’s too late to have a reversal of care in the community.
Probably the country can’t afford it either.

That would require building a load of psychiatric units. And that would involve finding suitable sites.

I suspect that a lot of former MH hospitals are housing estates now, it's certainly the case for those around the London/Surrey borders where I grew up.

It is performative if that’s all you do. Are you talking about arresting people carrying knives?

I just saw that she died, this is horrible

Appalling. At least they’ve got the bastard.

I’m actually really shocked about this. I feel there needs to be a more concrete plan about how the police/government are going to keep people safe. An unprovoked murder must make locals feel like they’re playing with fire if they go out.

OnlyOnAFriday · 10/11/2025 11:34

Also just seen that she’s died, awful news.

Westfacing · 10/11/2025 11:36

Terrible news.

As usual we get:

The force said officers would be around the city centre on Monday to offer reassurance...

Perhaps if there were more officers on the streets in the first place - I know they can't be everywhere but you rarely see any police, anywhere!

About five years' ago a young family man was murdered by drug dealers not too far from me - according to his family he had been complaining to the police for ages about the dealing going on in full view. After the murder the estate was flooded with police to provide reassurance, for a few days.

Ukisfinished · 10/11/2025 11:52

It's murder now, guys name is Djeison Rafael

lifeturnsonadime · 10/11/2025 11:52

It is so awful that she has died.

My teenage daughter catches the bus to college everyday right where this happened.

There are not enough police on the streets in Birmingham generally but last Thursday there were loads around because of the football match at Villa Park and concerns around unrest. Then this happens the day after.

Improve mental health services?

I am wondering what that poster wants done as they said he “lacks backbone”.

I doubt you need backbone to improve mental health services.

I don’t think there should be an issue with reversing it or at least completely overhauling mental health provision.

Not sure if it would have helped here or if you can force people to to engage with MH services but it’s a start.

I think we still have more to learn on motive (or if there even is one). An unprovoked attacked by lone attacker on lone victim is why people are suggesting MH issues though.

Stop and search massively ramped up for skunk and knives

Needle and a haystack approach which would hardly achieve anything (given the low conversion rates of stop and search.)

And I am not sure the deterrent aspect works on those not of sound body and mind.

If it’s not drugs induced mental health, I will eat my hat.

Yikes! Are you suggesting the PP was celebrating the murder of this woman?

I am pretty sure it’s mental health related too but I am sure more will come out (I won’t discount bitter incel just yet.)

So all the people saying he was an asylum seeker/immigrant, are you going to apologise now? Turns out he’s just another typical stabby Brit.

Sad News about the poor woman who passed away however.

“Total non-policing”.

Complete hyperbole.

CurlewKate · 10/11/2025 12:12

Thomas Mair, who killed Jo Cox MP, was a lone attacker with mental health issues. Fortunately he got a whole life tariff.

I think many people feel this is pretty much where we’re at with everyday crime.
