A house down the road is having some work done and the workmen have parked their van blocking the access road to 40-odd garages. I nicely asked them to move it this morning so I could get out, which they did without and hassle. I came back and they were there again! On-street parking is a nightmare and there were no other spaces so I've blocked them in. I'm several houses down and am in now until 2-ish. There is technically another exit but it's a right pain to get to, so they can try doing a 100-point turn if they like...

Diagram to follow.

Van man has now been blocked into position A and will be quite happy to stay there until the end of his work day

😂😂😂👌

so why not just ask them nicely to move again, why create the drama?

TheatricalLife · 08/11/2025 13:50

I'd just go and speak to him properly personally rather than the long and convoluted route of WhatsApp messaging outrage, plans of how to piss them off, blocking in, hanging around waiting for drama to unfold🤷‍♀️
He's not going to be arsed you've blocked him in, he's at work.

I did go and speak to him nicely, let him know this was the access road to everyone's garages and asked him to move. He did, then came straight back again 🤷‍♀️

Instead of blocking him, Id take it in turns to knock and ask him to move his van every time someone wanta to go out then in again. Really get the point across about how inconvenient his chosen parking place is.
Edit to add: take turns doing it every 20-30 mins until he gives up and parks elsewhere.
Where is house owners car? Could he park there

One of the more dull parking “war” threads I have come across in a long time

Yes, it's hardly a war, is it 😂

Ooh, I like that.

Take it in turns, every 3-4 minutes. He’d eventually get the hint.

This morning I was leaving, so could park in the access road, find him and ask him to move. When I came back, I was on a busy main road with nowhere to stop without blocking traffic. And TBH, why should I and everyone else have to keep asking him to move? He shouldn't be parked there.

Not a bad idea actually 😁 We're going out soon so will suggest it to the group.

Exactly. Safe in the knowledge that he's blocked in and won't be interrupted by people asking him to move his van, he can just crack on.

Meanwhile anyone else with a car in the garage is also blocked in

OP is being patently daft!

LizzyEm · 08/11/2025 13:55

It’s the op apparently making a plan with a neighbour to block him in whilst he works anyway, also blocking in all other cars in the garages! 😆

AlohaRose · 08/11/2025 13:36

OP, I think you are bored and just trying to create some parking wars drama here. If only your immediate neighbours are in the WhatsApp group, how are the owners of all 40 garages back there going to realise that it is your car which is blocking the entrance/exit? Or is it somehow okay for everyone else to have to do a 10 minute detour and access from some supposedly busy main road with a stiff gate?

Agreed

CatHugger · 08/11/2025 14:06

Known cats, tortoise and rabbit added. I can't draw dogs so please add them in your imagination.

Not my plan to block him at the other end but ok, I can be the petty mastermind in this tale if needed.

This is at the back of your property? An access road?

NPPUHinged · 08/11/2025 14:09

Misla · 08/11/2025 13:46

(there are many cats, not shown on the diagram though)

Pls remedy this

😂

ManyAardvarks · 08/11/2025 14:10

I don't understand why people are getting at OP so much? The van man is blocking an ACCESS road - for access - he shouldn't be parked there in the first place and he shouldn't go back after he was asked to move. She has left her car there in protest, but it's the access road is actually blocked by the van, so even when she moves her car/goes out - it's still blocked. So the next person will have to deal with him. The plan to interrrupt him by going in and out every 10 minutes is the only way he will get the message. He has inconvenienced everyone so wht shouldn't he be inconvenienced?

Andsomemore · 08/11/2025 14:11

On your thread a couple of days ago, this access road is only used by 4 neighbours.

now 40?

4 go past where my cat was killed, yes. We're towards the end of the track where there's a dead. There's no reason for anyone in the houses closer to the entrance to come our way.

Set fire to the van. Add some spice to the tale or call it quits

Aren’t you then blocking in others?

SpinningaCompass · 08/11/2025 14:19

Get everyone to watch for him to re-park there, grab their car keys and immediately ask him to move the van.

And you should be complaining to the owner of the property. this is really shitty by their workmen

EchoedSilence · 08/11/2025 14:19

Add some characters with nicknames and perhaps write a poem.

Sorry, I'm not following. Blocking them in how? When I park back there it's in my garage, leaving the access road clear.
