A house down the road is having some work done and the workmen have parked their van blocking the access road to 40-odd garages. I nicely asked them to move it this morning so I could get out, which they did without and hassle. I came back and they were there again! On-street parking is a nightmare and there were no other spaces so I've blocked them in. I'm several houses down and am in now until 2-ish. There is technically another exit but it's a right pain to get to, so they can try doing a 100-point turn if they like...

Diagram to follow.

This is tedious but I'll break it down. We were supposed to be going out at 2-ish (1415 to be exact) to be at our destination for 1530. The people we're visiting messaged to say they're running late and could we please come at 1600 instead. So now we don't need to leave until 1445 Zulu. Savvy?

Personally I feel that you have a duty to indicate cats' positions on the diagram now.

I have done so per special request. I also pre-empted requests for the neighbouring tortoise and rabbit. My artistic skills don't stretch to dogs.

Are your builders parked over people's driveways, and would you consider that acceptable if it happened to you? It's perfectly possible for these workmen to do their job without blocking the road. They just CBA.

But YOU are now parked over and are blocking the entrance to the access road! How come that's acceptable?

jeremyclarksonsthirdnipple · 08/11/2025 14:39

That may I say is an excellent diagram!

Drama soon over as Op needs to leave in a couple of mins away!

Andsomemore · 08/11/2025 14:35

So literally all he has to do is drive to the other exit, see that the chains are unlocked, remove and drive off. Chuckling to himself

Especially as op's car being parked Infront of him has probably deterred anyone from asking him to move all day 😂

Op's spite has turned into a bit of an own goal 😂😂😂

FML. I am not blocking anyone in or out. This entrance/exit is blocked by the van, whether I'm there or not. The van could leave if they fancied doing the 100-point turn to get it round the very tight corner. At which point I'd make a special trip to move my car.

Now off to put on my shoes. A wee has been done already.

You’re going to be late

On your thread a couple of days ago, this access road is only used by 4 neighbours.

now 40?

Use your eyes and your brain instead of troll hunting, especially about such a recent and sensitive topic. OP lives close to the dead end. Hardly anyone would drive that far down.

Well it’s all about to fizzle out anyway

They haven’t got much choice- they totally block myself and my immediate neighbour, but do not block anyones dropped kerb . They are trying to be as considerate as possible, even making sure they don’t block the road vision for the lollipop lady, after she asked them not to park on her side of the road at end of school. Not one neighbour has muttered a complaint and actually do ask how it’s going rather ‘how much longer?’

I ❤️ @CatHugger

I am sooooo fucking fed up of inconsiderate parking.

Our neighbour's son is brining home the works van and for some reason thinks it should spend the night blocking our driveway and not his. Wanker.

I need updates on the van and location of all cats.

ilucgaiaw · 08/11/2025 14:53

I'd have got people on the WhatsApp group to start driving out every 15 minutes or so. So parking behind the van, knocking, insisting he moves the van and then driving out wherever. Then if he parks again, the next one drives out or back in again or whatever. Until he moves the fucking van.

Laserwho · 08/11/2025 14:55

I really hope the van has gone using the other exit and left OP blocking the exit looking like a total idiot.

IsThisTheWaytoSlamMyPillow · 08/11/2025 14:57

LizzyEm · 08/11/2025 12:58

They haven't done anything wrong as far as I can see? They move when asked. YOU have blocked THEM in.

Why wouldn't you just leave a note in your windscreen with your door number and move when asked instead of carrying on like an arsehole?

What if they need to move for someone to get out of their garage and they don't know which house your car belongs to?

Are you the builder 😅

If a neighbour had asked this of me on a lovely Saturday afternoon, I’d have raised an eyebrow and ignored

This is why I rather have someone lick my eyeballs than join our street WA group. Who has the time or inclination to engage in such petty nonsense?

CollaterlieSistersSister · 08/11/2025 15:16

I don’t think this thread has gone the way OP thought it would.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstated · 08/11/2025 15:18

Tell me you're a petty busybody, op, without telling me you're a petty busybody.....

Christ, do people really think and live their lives like this nonsense?

GabriellaMontez · 08/11/2025 15:22

CatHugger · 08/11/2025 13:05

I could but I'm feeling like being an arse about it today. I told them nicely that it's the access road for all the house' garages and they clearly couldn't care less. It's a big renovation and I don't want this going on for weeks so making a point today to nip it in the bud.

This is the right thing to do.

Otherwise you'll have to request permission every time you have to pop out for the next however long.

Id prefer to be thought badly of and be able to go out without asking.

murasaki · 08/11/2025 15:26

The drawing is positively Lowry-esque, well done, OP.

Andylion · 08/11/2025 15:29

LizzyEm · 08/11/2025 13:09

Why be an arsehole about it? And rope others in to block the other end?

Pointless arseholio bollocks in my opinion.

I will now make every effort to fit "arseholio" into my vocabulary. Bonus points (to myself, yes, I am a sad creature) if I can use "arseholier than thou" somewhere.

PuppyMonkey · 08/11/2025 15:30

Bad form starting a thread like this and then going out imho.

Ooh that's a good one.

Arseholio is from beavis and butthead I think, I can't take credit for it 😂
