Has everyone forgotten Jonathan Ross and Sachsgate?

I love traitors but i detest Jonathon Ross. I clearly remember his vile phone calls to Andrew Sachs about his grandaughter. Along with his accomplice Russel Brand - vile, laddish behaviour. How is he even still working? Does he have mates in high places - people's careers have gone under for much less.
Also he makes my skin crawl and is ruining a damn good show.

Agree, JR also has a slot on classic fm. Unbelievable

FirstCuppa · 18/10/2025 20:11

He's friends with Brand because of it. Birds of a feather.
Let's face it, none of us would leave our daughters in a room with either of them.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/10/2025 20:11

I havent forgotten about it but doesn't matter to me. It happened ages ago to people I don't know.

I'm sure they're over it now. I know I am.

afaloren · 18/10/2025 20:12

I don’t like him either but he’ll be out soon I think.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:12

@mumofoneAloneandwell-- there was more than one thing with him tho.
Also lots of behaviour goes unpunished and then is called out decades later. It's never too late to say 'that behaviour is gross/unacceptable'.

I remember it reasonably well although haven't thought about it for quite a while. It wasn't their finest hour although Brand has obviously done worse things.

zerofeeling · 18/10/2025 20:14

It was shit behaviour but he's definitely improved with age, I like him.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:15

@FirstCuppa--exactly. I just find it odd that he's sailed along and seems to be untouchable. Red flag central for me.

That's disgusting. JR has two SEN daughters that he's been nothing but loving and supportive of. He's also very supportive of women's causes generally. He met be many things but he's not a predator

He should choose his friends more wisely then, clearly.

I can’t stand him but I also dislike the way people judge somebody for something that happened almost 20 years ago. People in the public eye can’t escape their mistakes but I bet most of us have something somewhere in our backgrounds that wouldn’t look great when published in the media and our flaws highlighted to everyone.

I don't think I have ever done anything that I really want to catastrophically apologise for, ever. And I will be 70 next year. I have got lots of things wrong, mostly fairly trivial, and I've apologised along the way.

lemonraspberry · 18/10/2025 20:16

Man is an oaf. He showed who he was with Russell brand, realised what was at stake (his career) and wound it in. But his talk shows are can be quite nasty at times, but generally are boring and bit tedious. Nothing in comparison with presenters like Graham Norton.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:16

@afalorenbloody hope so. Has he got grandchildren i wonder? What would he make of such a prank I wonder? Once a dick always a dick in my book.

Well so should a lot of us - it's not a crime!

Well, as with Epstein's buddies, who knows?

LivelyMintViper · 18/10/2025 20:17

He is a vile little man and should have been cancelled . Russel Brand is no better. Both are disgusting

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:18

@lemonraspberry-- I agree he's got a nasty edge to him. The truth will out. I hope.

It was awful and I have not forgotten. I am also surprised that there is little comment in the da t he started dating his wife when she was 16 and he was nearly 30. I seem to recall he made some bizarre comment about him being a bit of a dad to her. Makes me shudder.

They are less than 10 years apart in age, it’s not possible he was ‘almost 30’ when she was 16. It’s a big age gap, so there’s no need to exaggerate it for effect,

OnlyOnAFriday · 18/10/2025 20:22

I was talking to a friend about this very topic today. She can’t stand him. I don’t mind him on Traitors, he comes over like a nice enough guy but I did say I was very shocked and disappointed by what he did over Sach’s granddaughter. so is he an ok guy who made a stupid error of judgement or is he a really nasty bit of work who hides it well most of the time?

I think he probably thought it was banter and him and Brand (who is a scumbag on another level) egged each other on. I don’t think it was banter, I think it was nasty. But I get that doesn’t necessarily make him nasty. I don’t think he’s a predator but I was more disappointed with him because he had daughters. And also that he’s never properly apologised.

covilha · 18/10/2025 20:22

Not a fan of either.
At the time, Stephen Fry had JR on his shoe to, in Fry’s words, help him off the‘naughty step.’ Yep, their behaviour was trivialised to that extent.
David Bowie never appeared on Ross’ show again, despite Ross persistently asking him to. Now there was a Star, May he Rest in Peace.

She was 16 when they met though. He may have been 26 rather than 30 but at her age that’s a big age gap. But guess it must have been love as they’re still together aren’t they?

Bowie? There’s some not nice stories about him and underage groupies isn’t there?

Ummm...

covilha · 18/10/2025 20:27

@FuzzyWolf - some people deal with others behaviour for fal longer than twenty years while the person responsible walks away and flourishes.
Others, when they make a mistake actually apologise to the people they hurt, whether they can affect their career or status or not.
