Has everyone forgotten Jonathan Ross and Sachsgate?

I love traitors but i detest Jonathon Ross. I clearly remember his vile phone calls to Andrew Sachs about his grandaughter. Along with his accomplice Russel Brand - vile, laddish behaviour. How is he even still working? Does he have mates in high places - people's careers have gone under for much less.
Also he makes my skin crawl and is ruining a damn good show.

I can’t stand him.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 18/10/2025 19:52

Yes, most people just forgot about it and moved on.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 19:54

@didntlikeanyofthesuggestions--well yes obviously but why? When others have been shot down for much less?

FightingFish · 18/10/2025 19:55

The reason that Russell Brand isn’t on TV now is because of accusations (and charges) of sex offences, prior to that he was doing well in TV/films. Most people forgot about the Sachs incident years ago.

FuzzyWolf · 18/10/2025 19:55

I can’t stand him but I also dislike the way people judge somebody for something that happened almost 20 years ago. People in the public eye can’t escape their mistakes but I bet most of us have something somewhere in our backgrounds that wouldn’t look great when published in the media and our flaws highlighted to everyone.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 18/10/2025 19:56

Very typical. Badly behaved men always get free passes to do what they like on the telly.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 19:57

@FightingFishmmistake? Wow!
More than that in my book. Nasty misogynistic behaviour - he was far too old for all that.

It's disgraceful that he never apologised to Andrew Sachs' granddaughter Georgina. He apologised to the public and his bosses for the incident but didn't care one iota for the embarrassment and upset he caused her.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 18/10/2025 19:57

I mean, sexist comments about a woman usually go completely unpunished (especially back then!) so her being related to Andrew sachs meant justice was served 🤷‍♀️ and their show was cancelled

People in the media do far worse than that, even today, so I can let it go

You should watch some of Russell Howard's older stand up. And the first season of Would I Lie To You, i had a shock when I watched that, omg

Sickleg · 18/10/2025 19:59

I haven’t forgotten about the Andrew sachs incident . Jonathan Ross should have been cancelled. Russell brand already has been and deservedly so.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 19:59

@SugarPlumpFairyCakes-- well I completely agree but I feel as though slowly the perverts and weirdos are getting picked off over the years and yet JR just seems to keep on sliming his way along. Maybe has good PR/mgmt. I find it odd.

So not true that most people have something they'd want to hide.

His behaviour was incredibly offensive (re Andrew Sachs grandaugher) this isn't the only thing that was been controversial over the past 20 years that I've been in the UK
I can't stand him, I reckon he has a very good agent that he pays a lot of money to.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:01

@Toucan123eexactly. The whole thing was more than a 'mistake' - it was abusive and cruel. Hideous little man. Yet he's still on tv. How?

OP posts:
CoffeeCantata · 18/10/2025 20:02

Certainly not.

It’s very depressing that he’s still on TV.

These people always have powerful friends and are above the rules which the rest of us live by.

I didn’t say people wanted to hide things.

VivienneDelacroix · 18/10/2025 20:03

I agree. I feel the same way about Boy George. Disgusting men who in the real world would have been shunned by anyone with any sense.

Whappy · 18/10/2025 20:04

It was awful and I have not forgotten. I am also surprised that there is little comment in the da t he started dating his wife when she was 16 and he was nearly 30. I seem to recall he made some bizarre comment about him being a bit of a dad to her. Makes me shudder.

FirstCuppa · 18/10/2025 20:04

I assumed he was there to represent the misogynistic public, which is sadly still alive and kicking, and why he was chosen as a Traitor, because it's believable for those of us watching.

Horrid man, loved only by men from what I can tell.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:04

@mumofoneAloneandwellhmmm I'm not sure saying people do much worse is a great yard stick though ( i mean i know they do) but if that's ok it's just a big race to the bottom isn't it really? Which I find very depressing.

OP posts:
Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:06

@Whappy-- yes there's a few massive red flags about his slimey behaviour over the years. I guess he's got money/friends in high places.
I wish he'd eff off .

OwlBeThere · 18/10/2025 20:07

The thing is hardly anyone heard it, and hardly anyone cared even if they did hear it until the Mail ran its article and then a ton of people who probably didn’t even listen to hhe
show at any point jumped on the band wagon.
It was not JRs finest moment, but it also wasnt a career ending thing.
you are entitled to not like him OP but the fact is most people have moved on.

CoffeeCantata · 18/10/2025 20:07

I always used to notice JR’s sexist and misogynistic behaviour - along with his brother Paul’s. They both crudely judged women for their appearance.

JR’s daughter, Honey Kinney, has since been very nastily bullies online and in the press for not having ‘model proportions’ and I wonder if JR has had cause to reflect on his own previous treatment of women.

I bet Honey Kinney has had a very weird and difficult time growing up in that environment.

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 19:54

@didntlikeanyofthesuggestions--well yes obviously but why? When others have been shot down for much less?

Because he did it in that long ago time when your whole life and ability to provide for yourself and your family wouldn’t be completely destroyed and ripped into shreds by sanctimonious, self appointed pontificates on social media because you did something they disapproved of. People are not All Good or All Bad. That’s a disordered way of thinking but appears to be increasingly normalised.

FWIW I cannot stand watching the man but appreciate that he publicly stood with Graham Linehan at a time when very few others had the courage to do so.

Honestly I think that the comments on this thread are dramatic 😄😄

I mean, it was a horrible thing to do, hard agree, but in the 00s, tv was a cesspit of sexism which went ignored and unpunished

Powerful man was offended and got justice by having jr's show cancelled 🤷‍♀️ - hes kept his head down and not done anything stupid since, unlike minister Russell Brand

Greedybilly · 18/10/2025 20:09

@OwlBeThere-- but that doesn't make his behaviour right though does it? Should we all move on about every other pervert that works on tv? Erm...no.
