Has everyone forgotten Jonathan Ross and Sachsgate?

I love traitors but i detest Jonathon Ross. I clearly remember his vile phone calls to Andrew Sachs about his grandaughter. Along with his accomplice Russel Brand - vile, laddish behaviour. How is he even still working? Does he have mates in high places - people's careers have gone under for much less.
Also he makes my skin crawl and is ruining a damn good show.

There’s no accounting for taste!

I’m amazed to hear he’s still going, tbh. I’d have thought he’d have passed his sell-by some time ago.

I’m genuinely surprised that his sleazy style is still popular these days.

Well you may be amazed that he is still going strong but, as I said, plenty of people like him.

Did you not realise he still has his chat show, has a radio show and is often on various programmes such as Bake Off An Extra Slice

No - I’m sorry, I didn’t.

I’m not the biggest telly fan and avoid anything to do with ‘celebs’ like the plague.

Agree we should definitely not move on and forget what he did. It was not a mistake it was a calculated verbal nasty and completely unnecessary attack on a young girl. The fact that he also involved that other imbecile brand goes to show that they planned it. Why would someone do something like that especially pubically.

I thought it was more offensive to her grandad than her-it wouldn't have been news to her that she slept with RB.

Oldwmn · 19/10/2025 22:51

Viewing figures tell the tale. If people watch stuff with him in it, they can't really complain. I haven't watched anything with JR in since his chatshow years ago & I thought he was dreadful & boring then. As for the popularity of reality shows - the mation needs to get a grip.

Richtea1234 · 19/10/2025 23:02

Can’t stand him. I’ve never seen traitors.

I’m not sure of the state of Andrew Sachs’s health at that stage, but he developed Alzheimer’s Disease as he aged and became wheelchair-bound. I’d hate to think that, if he’d been unable to turn up on the programme, it was because of Ill-health, and that he was pilloried by two oiks because of it.

Stunned at the pps who can’t see what’s wrong with shouting’I fucked your granddaughter’ to this veteran and much-loved performer on a broadcast.

Yuk. I wouldn’t want to be those people.🫩🤮

Hard agree!
Sickening to read ops saying it's no big deal!

It bloody is!

I'm sure it would be a complete U turn if it was your daughter (or dad) involved, being made a laughing stock to all & sundry!
Being in the public eye does not mean automatic redemption, in fact it usually means the opposite (John Torode) so why is JR not booted off?
He was off air for a while, but unfortunately has been regurgitated for some bizarre reason.

He should be put out to pasture, & quick!

Rhaenys · 20/10/2025 06:49

It was gross, although I didn’t think so at the time as I was quite young and didn’t see what all the fuss was about.

However, I seem to remember Andrew Sachs and his wife stopped speaking to their granddaughter over it which I thought was awful of them.

I see that as a family tragedy caused by Ross and that wanker, Brand though. On the face of it, that sounds harsh, but I guess there must have been rows, back and forths and huge upset involved so things might have been more complicated than them just going nc with her.

How this sad outcome, all caused by a cruel, bullying ‘prank’ is OK with some people is beyond me.

CoffeeCantata · 20/10/2025 08:21

Just to add - I think pps are divided between possibly younger people who see this in isolation. I see it as being part of the whole sexual abuse scandal in which the BBC enabled a whole spectrum of sexual misconduct from Saville and Harris at one end, to Wallace and things like this tacky and bullying incident (and Ross’s behaviour in interviews with female celebrities) at the milder end.

Not cool at all and shouldn’t be minimised.

TooBigForMyBoots · 18/10/2025 21:39

I don't like him. I stopped watching his shows before Sachsgate. I find him clichéd, formulaic and cringe. But other people like his shiz and professionalism otherwise he'd have disappeared by now.🤷‍♀️

He is interesting in the Traitors.😁

What is interesting about him in Traitors??
I'm watching and don't see anything interesting about him.
I was disappointed to watch Celia Imrie praising him to other contestants - I'm pretty sure she described him as delectable.

Cinaferna · 20/10/2025 10:15

FuzzyWolf · 18/10/2025 19:55

I can’t stand him but I also dislike the way people judge somebody for something that happened almost 20 years ago. People in the public eye can’t escape their mistakes but I bet most of us have something somewhere in our backgrounds that wouldn’t look great when published in the media and our flaws highlighted to everyone.

It's less a mistake - more showing people who you really are - a revolting bully, misogynistic, ageist who gets kicks from publicly humiliating someone far more talented than he will ever be. I loathed him before Sachsgate. He has always made my flesh crawl.

dragonbreaths · 20/10/2025 10:51

CoffeeCantata · 18/10/2025 20:07

I always used to notice JR’s sexist and misogynistic behaviour - along with his brother Paul’s. They both crudely judged women for their appearance.

JR’s daughter, Honey Kinney, has since been very nastily bullies online and in the press for not having ‘model proportions’ and I wonder if JR has had cause to reflect on his own previous treatment of women.

I bet Honey Kinney has had a very weird and difficult time growing up in that environment.

I think of this every time I see his smug, irritating mug.

Sachs doesn't talk to granddaughter

Andrew Sachs has not spoken to his granddaughter Georgina Baillie since the row over obscene messages on his answering machine erupted, it was reported.

"Family tragedy"!!! Quite the drama queen aren't you? Ok it was not a nice thing to say about his granddaughter but Andrew Sachs and presumably his wife made the decision to cut her out of their lives. They didn't have to make a mountain out of a molehill

I am in my 70's and DH is in his 60's and we both like him. Lots of my friends and family like him and they are all at least 60.

Wordsmithery · 20/10/2025 13:58

I haven't forgotten the Andrew Sachs business. It was calculated spite that caused great distress to the Sachs family and how JR ever got back into TV is beyond me. What he did wasn't acceptable then and isn't acceptable now.

wisestbee23 · 20/10/2025 13:59

Apologies if this has been posted before. I seemed to remember at the time the pre-recorded content was allowed to be broadcast on BBC Radio 2 that it was a woman at the head of the station - and it shocked me. How many others in the chain of management gave the go-ahead before it was finally aired? Anyway, the Wikipedia entry is worth a read. The Russell Brand Show prank calls - Wikipedia Russell Brand went some way to redeeming himself by paying for Georgina's rehab programme. Would she have needed it had the incident ever happened however?

Yeah, I remember several interviews in a similar vein. If the Daily Mail hadn't made such a massive deal of it the chances of it being noticed at all were pretty much zero.

I wouldn’t like to be you.

You are tolerant of appalling behaviour which hurt real people - not fictional characters. Haven’t the succession of sexual scandals at the BBC made any impact on you? Where would you draw the line as to a code of behaviour for people paid telephone numbers and entrusted with the privilege of broadcasting to us?

I don’t know anyone IRL who shares your attitude. And I’m glad!

I mean they hadn’t even noticed any of it before someone told them. I do feel that disowning a close family member because they’re in a burlesque group, take drugs recreationally and have casual sex is wrong, and the bit about spending lots of money on her seems very toxic.

NotThisShitAgain121 · 20/10/2025 19:07

I used to like him but not since that. How would he feel if that had been one one of his daughters. What a wanker. Dunno wtf Jane Goldman sees in him!
