To ask how much you think I weigh?

I’m genuinely just curious. My hairdresser said she thought I’m a good 2-3 stone lighter than I actually am, so it got me thinking!

Well done on your loss op, just goes to show how obsessed we are with weight still from the amount of responses on here so quickly, also brave to put the pics up and open yourself to indiscriminate scrutiny, keep going and keeping fit op.

Yep. I'm 12 stone and 5'5 and think I look heavier than that. A recent swimsuit photo was an absolute shocker.

Do you really think she looks that obese?

Edited

I don't want to be nasty, but she looks the weight she is. I don't like the word 'obese' because it sounds judgemental and I'm not judging, but I was a bit surprised by the low guesses. I have some medical training and also some dance training, so am pretty familiar with how body composition works.

The term obese conjures up certain images doesn't it ... people on documentaries who can barely walk, totally inactive, absolutely huge and unable to wear any clothes other than huge tent style stuff. It's not really the case. I'm just in the obese category...I'm a size 14.. I'm aware I don't look thin but I also don't look like the huge people you see on TV shows about fat people and I'm perfectly active and can run round, run up stairs, exercise etc.

Exactly.

People hear "obese" and think about those people on My 600lb Life who can't walk and who eat 7 meals a day. In reality, you don't actually have to be that overweight to be considered obese.

I walk 20k+ steps a day, I'm a dog walker, I'm active. I wear size 12-14 clothes. But according to my BMI, I'm overweight.

I think that’s the issue, years ago when being overweight wasn’t the norm, obesity was easily recognised. Now with so many obese people some weird magic has happened in people’s heads and they think obesity is my 600lb life or something.

obesoty doesn’t conjure up the images you say for me. It conjures up people like the op or myself when I was in the same situation, people need to calculate their own bmi and accept if it’s 30 they are obese and that’s what obesity looks like, instead of pretending bmi doesn’t work

I have! I’m quite young, as other posters have guessed, and still working at it! I’d like to settle at about a size 12. The nhs says I should be between 7 1/2 and 9 1/2 but that feels unrealistic at the moment!

10 stone ago you probably felt the same and yet look how far you have come! Size 12 sounds pretty good imo. Again, well done, it's impressive and not easy. Kudos!

SoozyWoozy5 · 12/10/2025 10:23

I’d say 14/15 stone

Yes, years ago I remember looking at the NHS weight height chart in the waiting room. According to it, at 5'8" tall and a size 12, I was overweight. Sigh. Decided not to pay much attention over it, I felt good, not big stomach getting in the way, plenty of energy.

15/16 stone?

This ^^

DrowningInSyrup · 12/10/2025 10:27

Charlenedickens · 12/10/2025 10:15

Huh? The ops bmi is 37.7

30 is obese. 40 is morbidly obese.

op, I think what the thread is showing is people have lost sight of what a healthy bmi looks like. And don’t recognise obesity when they see it. I onky got it right as although taller I also became obese and could see it in you as I could see it in myself. It is what it is.

good luck on your weight loss journey, it’s your call but I really personally wouldn’t be asking people to guess my weight, people have lost sight of a healthy BMI and what it looks like and are messed up about their own weight, which can skew the answers, plus some will think they should guess low to make you happy.

I’ve responded factually and honestly. Hopefully that’s what you wanted, although I’m not sure.

As I said previously I meant morbidly obese, which I still don't think she looks.

You've done amazingly and I don't think that you need to get down as low as that; if you settled at 10.5 stone or 11 that would also be fine, it all depends on your body composition. You look to have quite a sturdy, muscular frame: I'll bet you are very strong.

Yeah, I'm the same height as you and I mostly ignore it as well. I have PCOS which doesn't help but I'm not unhealthy. I eat a decent diet, do plenty of exercise and can walk miles without feeling out breath or tired.

I could eat less and weigh less but honestly, I'd be miserable, so I don't, lol.

Cailleachnamara · 12/10/2025 10:29

Between 15 and 16 stone .

WolfieMuma · 12/10/2025 10:30

14 stone

Yes well done on that amazing weight loss. A brilliant achievement. I still don't think you look 15 stone plus, and I didn't guess 13 to be nice.

CeffylCoch · 12/10/2025 10:32

13stone

Twodogsonthecouch · 12/10/2025 10:32

What I’m fascinated by is that I really don’t see 4 stone difference between me (taken right now) at 10 stone 12 and you at 15 stone 8!
I know that you’re a few inches taller but I am really not seeing it. One stone ok, but 4?
Maybe it’s because I am so much older, nearly 60.
Anyway, it is interesting to see how people perceive size.
Fantastic achievement 👏👏👏

I’m obese, yes. Down nearly ten stone from being off the BMI chart! I never thought I carried it well, but if nobody really believes my weight it makes me think I must?

Just wanted to say well done! That is an amazing accomplishment and I hope you're very proud of yourself!

For what it's worth, I guessed 14-15 stone but only because someone close to be used to be a bit bigger than that at about 16 stone so that was my frame of reference!

Most importantly I hope you're feeling better and more energetic from your weight loss and able to enjoy life to the fullest!

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 12/10/2025 10:35

I haven't looked at any posts of yours @ThatLadyLady other than the one where you say your height. You look a bit like me (body shape and size) and you are a similar height to me, and I am 13 stone. (Yes I need to lose weight I know...)

Soooo, I would say 13 to 13 and a half stone...

Gagamama2 · 12/10/2025 10:36

I would have said around 13-14 stone. I would not have guessed 15st 8. You look similar to me, I am 174cm and 13st 8

CharlieKirkRIP · 12/10/2025 10:36

13 stone.

Glowingup · 12/10/2025 10:36

arcticpandas · 12/10/2025 09:46

I would say 65 kg but it depends on your height.

Wtf??? If I was 65kg (just over 10 stone) I’d be an 8-10 in dress size. I was going to guess 16 stone.

Aha interesting. So my guess of 16st wasn’t that far off. My highest weight was 14 and a half stone and I was only about a size 14 so that’s what made me guess a higher weight because for many people, you don’t look that big even though it sounds like a lot.
