National Trust & tampons

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 10/10/2025 17:37

NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

If you take the very drastic decision to alter your body with surgery and cross sex hormones, one of the (more minor) consequences of that is that you will have to plan outings more carefully around the availability of suitable public toilets.

Exactly, well said Underthinker. About time we had some sensible posts on here.

If you think women would object to other women in the female toilets because they might momentarily mistake them for men, why do you think actual men should be able to use female toilets?

At what point have I said that men should be able to use female toilets?

This is why MN is an echo chamber. So much back clapping and "nice ones" and zero nuance or understanding that the world isn't separated into right and wrong or gender critical and trans rights activist.

So what is your point then about women using female toilets if they have some facial hair or that distinctive voice that comes from testosterone thickening a women’s vocal cords in the restricted space of a female larynx?

Quietly supporting trans folk. No fuss. No problem. Move on.

GC women don’t have an issue with trans folk.
They only have an issue trying to maintain their safe spaces and Equal rights for women

OneCleverEagle · 11/10/2025 17:37

No, the guidance specifically states that transmen who are no longer recognisable as women shouldn't use the women's facilities, they have to find some gender neutral or disabled facilities.
It's more of an issue for transmen as many of them pass very well as men with their beards and haircuts (whereas close to 0% of trans identifying men could be mistaken for an actual woman).

That's a good point actually.

I disagree; I object to being reduced to a set of regressive sex stereotypes by this harmful ideology, to having the language women need to describe our oppression being stolen by men, to being reduced to being described as dehumanised body parts ‘with cervix’/menstruators/‘body with a vagina’. I object to an ideology that encourages children to take incredibly harmful drugs for life and mutilate their bodies in order for men to justify their sexual fetish. I object to the labelling of safeguarding as ‘transphobic’. I object to having female sports destroyed by men….

Agree
but most of thats an equal rights issue as I said
Agree though re the change of language that everyone’s buying in to

StartingOverIn2025 · 11/10/2025 22:35

Recently we went to Kedleston NT and I started my period 5 days early very unexpectedly (thanks peri!!) I noted that there were no tampon machines in the ladies, I had to hang around in the loos asking random people, without luck. Eventually I had to ask staff in the cafe and was given a tampon from the staff stash by a very very kind member of staff. Didn’t think to look in the men’s loos!!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/10/2025 22:51

It’s wasteful to put them in the gents where they will never be used…

blubberyboo · 11/10/2025 23:03

hoarahloux · 10/10/2025 18:03

If it helps one single person and has zero negative effect, what's the issue?

The negative effects are:

Men using urinals have their privacy disturbed by a women in manface fumbling at a machine beside them

NT encouraging people to use opposite sex facilities in defiance of the law which has been clarified. Thus leading to men in woman face protesting that this allows them access to female facilities "because the transmen are"

Realistically if a woman has dysphoria the last thing she is going to want to do in the mens toilet is display her womanly bodily functions by purchasing a tampon in front of them. She is drawing attention and maybe harm to herself.

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 12/10/2025 06:52

Effing 'ell @oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends, the mind boggles. Strange, people are hoiking their bosoms in umbrage - following tone of first response - like Judas animals of yore. Perhaps NT are now providing self identified males with products to enhance glory holes ambience / experience?

For the record @blubberyboo the first post says the tampons are FREE. I assume they are in a packet/ container in the toilets.

Have you been living in a bubble for the last year?

You can support trans 'folk' but as long as they use the loos appropriate for their bio sex ( as they should) everyone will be happy.

GirlonaCloud · 12/10/2025 07:56

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/10/2025 07:52

This. I couldn't bring myself to be bothered.

You might need to give your head a wobble.

It's encouraging behaviour that the law has at last changed- men use men's loos, women use women's loos.

And if adult women can't carry a tampon or a pad in their bags all the time ( because periods arrive at odd times) they should, for those 'just in case' days.

Which bit? That activist were campaigning to allow men to use non-consenting women for ‘validation’? Or the fact that the Supreme Court cannot change the law, it can only confirm what the law is?

Hoardasurass · 12/10/2025 09:30

GirlonaCloud · 12/10/2025 08:23

Nope men never had the right to use womens single sex spaces. However stonewall et al outright lied about and misrepresented the law around men in women's single sex spaces, whilst encouraging companies and service providers to illegally allow men into them (going above and beyond the law and removing women's rights) and to remove all mention of women, mothers and other sexed language from their maternity and other policies whilst simultaneously trying to get the single sex exemptions removed from the equality act (proving that they knew what the law said all along)
The supreme court has mearly confirmed that men cannot be women and women cannot be men under the equality act and as such cannot enter the opposite sex facilities even if they have a GRC.
We knew that "a man with the PC of gender reassignment but no GRC is still a man and as such is not entitled to use the female facilities nor should he have the expectation to do so" since the haldane ruling in 2022, yet these men and organisations ignored the law hence the need to keep fighting and taking it all the way to the supreme court to confirm that a man with a GRC is still a man (which is the only part of the haldane ruling which was appealed the Scottish government even conceded that haldane was correct on that point).
No laws have changed and trans people have not lost any of the rights they held under law before they just cant appropriate other people's rights by misrepresenting the law anymore.

Unimportant, most of us have more important things to worry about

So unimportant that you ran to the thread and tripped over the important stuff to land on the thread ahead of anyone else.

WildLimePoet · 12/10/2025 09:38

It’s the national trust. What do you expect. Didn’t they want to de colonize the countryside too?

People employed in these organisations are basically unemployable in the real world, that’s why they come up with this stuff and rob a wage.

Out of interest, who funds Stonewall, who's behind it (other than the names we know) and why do they have so much power?
