NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

This happened near us when the local authority brought in free sanpro for anyone who needs it. There was slight uproar until it was pointed out that there are Men and boys who care for Women & Girls and they may also benefit from the free provision.

Sadly it became clear the scheme didn’t work in public toilets as they were all taken (in bulk, far more than a woman could use in a month or even a year) within minutes of restocking so now they’re working with the local supermarkets to have free provision after the tills to take as you need. Doesn’t all get swiped because it’s in public view. Free provision also available in the toilets of all public buildings.

What do men use tampons for?

DH says

  • nose bleeds after a punch up
  • bullet holes

Neither seems to fit with the usual ambiance or clientele of a NT site..

Sixseveneight · 10/10/2025 18:17

InsectsMatter · 10/10/2025 18:12

Because men can’t have periods.
Hope that helps.

It seems an odd thing to be so worked up about.

Livpool · 10/10/2025 18:06

That is ridiculous.

Are they even leaving any in the women’s toilets?!

Can you read?

How do you test tampons on animals? Genuinely picturing dogs using tampons when in heat here…disturbing thought ngl

It’s the chemicals used on the materials that are tested
plus some tampons contain animal by products

Unimportant, most of us have more important things to worry about

I wasn't aware there was a limit on the number of things we are allowed to worry about. Also, where did the OP say she was worried? Sounded more incredulous and pissed off to me. Personally, I'm fortunate to have sufficient brain power to be incredulous and pissed off about a great number of things.

Indianajet · 10/10/2025 18:20

Why worry about it?

Me neither! Never seen it at any property.

seaelephant · 10/10/2025 18:22

I blame the small boats and Meghan Markle

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 10/10/2025 18:25

Not worried, but as said above, incredulous.

BTW, Sizergh Castle

My mum will love this - she always bangs on about how woke they are and refuses to go.

ChristmasFairyLiquid · 10/10/2025 18:30

I think I’m being dim (I do have a horrible cold).

Who would use the men’s toilets - women who have transitioned to men or men who have transitioned to women?

I think the latter …?

Do men who have transitioned to women have periods? I didn’t know they would?

Genuine question. May be wrong on either of my assumptions.

Some tampons are tested on animals, not just the chemicals.

Who cares? It’s not harming anyone

The point is, it's the thin end of the let the 6 foot 5 man who began to identify as a woman 5 minutes ago, with size 13 feet, a full beard and a history of child sexual offences swing his planet-sized testicles in 10 year old DDs line of sight in the swimming pool changing rooms to be a 'good person' wedge.

Fukcedoff · 10/10/2025 18:32

Obviously
It's incase one of the men has a nose bleed
Tampons are great for that

LifeOfAShowgirl13 · 10/10/2025 18:34

OP, vegan means it includes no animal products.

GameWheelsAlarm · 10/10/2025 18:35

It does not do you any harm. It doesn't do anyone else any harm either. No harm is caused by anyone of either sex using the gents. No harm is caused by making the gents a welcoming place for anyone who wants to use it.

TypeyMcTypeface · 10/10/2025 18:35

They'll soon get rid of them when they start getting flushed down the toilets and blocking the 'historic draining system' 😄

My thoughts?

Brilliant that a trans man will have access to sanitary protection if they’re caught short.

What are you hoping to achieve from this thread op? 🙄

Transmen use the ladies, because they're women.

Of course they are.

Putting them in the men’s loos doesn’t mean anything’s being taken away from the women’s loos, FFS.

Struggling to see why this is even a problem for gender-critical people. For whatever reason, someone who is biologically female might prefer to use the men’s toilets. That might be because they consider themselves to be and appear male - or it be because they are a woman who is simply butch and gets mistaken for a man so often that she gets abuse when she uses the women’s loos (this has happened many times to one of my colleagues, who is a butch lesbian, to the point where she feels safer in the Gents - it’s happened to her a lot more in recent years).

Regardless of you what think about the way those women present themselves - in what way are you as a woman being harmed by them choosing to use men’s toilets, and by tampons being present in those facilities?

Men aren’t going to catch periods by seeing a tampon. Given that there’s currently a thread on here about a man who kicked off because his wife accidentally left a wrapped sanitary towel where her son could see it, I’d say it’s a good thing for boys to see sanitary products in spaces that aren’t exclusive to women.

You can of course think it’s ridiculous, but it doesn’t have any impact on women. At all.

A trans man should, by law, be in the women’s toilets.

Laiste · 10/10/2025 18:38

It's for trans men, no?

(women who present as a man but still have a period)

So still there for women.

No, of course they don't.
They don't acquire a uterus when they "transition".
How could they?
Amazed that this needs to be explained.
