National Trust & tampons

NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

That is ridiculous.

Are they even leaving any in the women’s toilets?!

Can you read?

BundleBoogie · 11/10/2025 14:29

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 11/10/2025 13:15

Oh we know why they are doing it

A while ago they completely removed the women’s toilets at one of their properties and made them all gender neutral whilst retaining the single sex male toilets

We know why they do it. NT have become very misogynistic.

Exactly. They are very captured. I have some business dealings with them and all emails are proudly festooned with unnecessary pronouns. They have been forcing their views onto the volunteers for years as well - making them wear the politicised rainbow lanyards and spending money on ‘diversity’ (actually conformity’ training) and queering history.

Our historical buildings are not in safe hands.

@kreepture accusing people of being ableist is ridiculous. Has it never occurred to you to just carry some sanpro in your handbag and encourge your daughter to do the same? Because that's what I do (and I'm disabled) and funnily enough, I've never once thought "I wish men's loos had sanpro so I could ask my dad/husband/brother to get me a sanitary pad if I'm out with them and get my period early". You know full well NT are not doing this to be accessible for the disabled partners of the men going for a piss. They're doing it to look good for Stonewall and other trans orgs. It's ideology that's at play here, not equality or accessibility.

Yes, it infuriates me endlessly that so much money has been spent on virtue signalling and ‘equality and diversity’ yet none of this is improving life and accessibility for disabled people.

I have a good friend with a severely disabled daughter and she is so limited in where she can go - some extremely rare but joyous days out have been facilitated by small independent charities. One provided her with beach activities for example and she still brings it up to show on her communication iPad years later.

Meanwhile the NT is spending huge amounts on ridiculous woke schemes and has decided to provide free tampons for men (and about 2 women who shouldn’t be in there anyway) instead of disabled women.

EmeraldPebble · 11/10/2025 14:41

Why are you so bothered? Bit pathetic tbh.

Have you read the thread? Plenty of explanations have been provided. Bit pathetic to reply without having read the thread.

Underthinker · 11/10/2025 14:24

Yes it's the weirdest argument. Just in case womens toilets run out of products, we should put a second batch in the one place women can't access.

While we're at it let's put defibrillator on the highest roof dangling from a weather vane.

Yes. I sometimes worry that vast swathes of the population have reached their level of incompetence and it’s all downhill from here.

The things that people will argue in favour of never cease to amaze me.

OakleyAnnie · 11/10/2025 14:49

Kreepture · 11/10/2025 13:05

Far fetched?

There are days i'm a wheelchair user.. quite frequently if i'm out for a day out with family that needs a lot of moving around, like visiting the national trust.

I can't walk without my crutches, so if i choose to use my chair, i am stuck with the chair, because its highly impractical to take my crutches out with me too.

Most NT disabled/accessible toilets do not have Sanpro in the cubicles... as i said upthread, in general, most disabled loo do not have sanpro full stop.

There have been incidents, twice, where myself, or my teen DD have been caught out, and there is NONE in the ladies toilets because it's all been used or the things are broken and we've made do with the traditional loo paper wad.

Why are you so bent out of shape that it might just be possible someone has had the forethought or may have experienced a similar situation and had to send their partner/dad for sanpro.. and asked they also be available in the mens?

Are you SO ableist that you think disabled people don't deserve options?

i am not for one moment saying that is what happened here, but stop accusing people of 'mental gymnastics' just because it isn't a scenario you have personally experienced.

Edited

Given your example of I were you I’d be campaigning for sanpro in the accessible toilets rather than justifying them in the gents.

BIossomtoes · 11/10/2025 14:27

How does that work for the National Portrait Gallery then? All their loos are unisex.

The gendered toilets are on the 4th floor.
My problem with unisex toilets is that they usually stink, and have piss all over the seat and floor.

PinkyFlamingo · 11/10/2025 14:52

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 18:38

No, of course they don't.
They don't acquire a uterus when they "transition".
How could they?
Amazed that this needs to be explained.

I know!!!

Single sex toilets are not required by law @BrownTroutBluesAgain @Blossomtoes

If a venue already has gender neutral toilets they can carry on with those. But they have to be self enclosed cubicles, floor to ceiling walls and doors, and with a washbasin in the cubicle.

There are many venues in London that have these types of toilets (museums, galleries etc). Some have both- gender neutral (often accessible as well) and ladies and gents.

The relevant factor is that women who are biologically female use the ladies and men who are biologically male use the gents. Or they use the self enclosed cubicle for gender neutral.

PinkyFlamingo · 11/10/2025 14:59

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 18:40

Who would use the men’s toilets - women who have transitioned to men or men who have transitioned to women?

Men who are now transwomen use the gents. Because they're still men.
And men don't need tampons.

Transmen (who are women) would use the ladies.

That doesn't happen though does it.

GirlonaCloud · 11/10/2025 15:01

PinkyFlamingo · 11/10/2025 14:59

Have you seen a man (dressed as a woman) in the ladies?

I have seen my trans man friend trot off to the gents w/o anyone giving a fig.

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/10/2025 15:06

I thought it wasn't an issue for trans men who 'pass' to use the mens facilities. But they may well still need tampons.

Last time I raised the point that in the efforts to ensure no actual men use the ladies, it would mean transmen who pass using the ladies, I was told pretty soundly, it doesn't matter if they use the mens.

So why is it an issue if theres tampons in there? (And yeah I know way way more transmen who would pass than transwomen!)

It seems in the last four years things aren’t moving quickly enough though

How do you know?
Maybe you r friend was lying or oblivious to the eye rolls of the men?

Well maybe one day there will be another man who will 'give a fig'.

The point is to protect women, the rule has to be consistent.

We can't go around saying a trans man is unlikely to rape or assault another man so it's one rule for trans men and another for trans women.

They should use mixed sex toilets
In somewhere like the NT buildings they all have them

They would only ‘pass’ to use the men’s, in the very exceptional cases that they might, if there were no mixed sex facilities.

To the best of my knowledge I know.
I have only ever known him living as a man. You cannot tell by looking at him that he was born female.
I understand that the rules needs to be consistent.
I believe my friend would generate more concern using the women's toilets.

All nicely sewn up and explained to those who can’t understand

Stonewalls flagrant disregard for the above policies and pushing their agenda has led to a lot of building owners and organisations acting against their legal requirements.

Single sex facilities must be provided with gender neutral in addition. Not instead of

How can 70% of people disagree with free tampons? I noticed recently in Scotland they are available in loads of toilets and ir's a great idea.

If Farage doesn't like it he can shove them up his arse. Or you know, just ignore something which is nothing to do with him.

They aren’t disagreeing with free tampons
They are disagreeing with

  • putting them in men’s toilets
and as we’ve recently heard on here
  • not putting them in disabled toilets

So how are some venues in London getting away with not doing this ?@BrownTroutBluesAgain

For example

Somerset House
Wellcome Collection (quite recently renovated to one large room with multiple gender neutral self enclosed cubicles.)
National Portrait Gallery ( some single sex on the upper floors.)
