National Trust & tampons

NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

I have never seen free san pro in any women's toilets just a machine that takes £1 coins.

GirlonaCloud · 11/10/2025 15:42

So how are some venues in London getting away with not doing this ?@BrownTroutBluesAgain

For example

Somerset House
Wellcome Collection (quite recently renovated to one large room with multiple gender neutral self enclosed cubicles.)
National Portrait Gallery ( some single sex on the upper floors.)

They removed the facilities against building regs
This is why the requirement for definition in the SC ruling was needed

Stonewall have trampled over the Equalities Act by blindsiding institutions
This has been the slow erosion of people rights
They even did it at the Barbican with their ‘toilets with urinals’ and ‘toilets without urinals’ !!! So no women’s toilets….again !!! ( now reversed)

The fact they took away people’s rights, set down perfectly clearly in the Equaities Act and protected further in Building Regs, does not make it then law.
No matter how prestigious the Institution

Stonewall have a lot to answer for but so have all these idiots that followed them

But once they have been built they can't be removed either?

I thought the new law only applied to new building facilities going forward- not retrospectively.

If single sex toilets were removed after Bregs1992 and the EQ2010 then technically they will need to be reinstated as their removal means the buildings do not conform and never did ( to building regs for egs) . So certification is void ( had some delusional building control officer passed the building )

Each institution will have to assess, as will Building control, whether the buildings can still be made to conform or whether they may still ie your example of grd fl facilities may be considered enough

School for example must ensure single sex facilities, and any that have removed those, must make changes
Some institutions are waiting for guidance although tbh the Building regs aren’t confusing but 🤷

New and under going extensive refurbishment / building work

but changes have been made against the law which will have to be reversed.

Of note we are still in the middle of this Stonewall mess.

My thoughts?

Brilliant that a trans man will have access to sanitary protection if they’re caught short.

What are you hoping to achieve from this thread op? 🙄

Transmen ie women should not be in the gents they should be using the women's or unisex facilities. As such the 1 place that shouldn't have any period products is the gents loos

So women have to be ok with people with beards and deep voices using the same toilet as them?

Obviously as everyone on this thread is so adamant that they’re actually women. You can’t have it both ways.

This is my point - people on this thread are insisting that trans men MUST use the womens toilets, but also they'd be the first to post angrily on here if someone with a beard was in the women's toilets. It's a total lack of joined up thinking.

No, the guidance specifically states that transmen who are no longer recognisable as women shouldn't use the women's facilities, they have to find some gender neutral or disabled facilities.
It's more of an issue for transmen as many of them pass very well as men with their beards and haircuts (whereas close to 0% of trans identifying men could be mistaken for an actual woman).

In the absence of available gender neutral / disabled facilities (not a good substitute because they're needed by disabled people), it isn't outside the realms of possibility that they may use the mens. Therefore having a decent supply of sanitary protection in all the toilets makes sense.

But there is no need for a charity that should have other priorities to be supplying free sanitary products in any of the toilets, other organisations don't, NT are doing this purely to push a point about their virtuous trans acceptance. If you accept that transmen will use the men's then the corollary is that trans identifying men will use the ladies.

Lots of places supply free sanitary products in the bathroom, I've visited multiple places - tourist attractions, shops, restaurants etc - that do. Whether sanitary products should be supplied for free is a matter for another thread. The idea that they're doing it to push a point sounds like a conspiracy theory, like the "they're teaching kids to be Muslim in schools" conspiracy floating around.

No people are saying that people should use the facilities for their sex or gender neutral ones.

The "trans man gotcha" is old and very flawed. It actually betrays an intolerance of gender non conformity, you can't comprehend a muscly woman or one with facial hair could be allowed to use toilets for women, and not be cast out of the female sex entirely.

No it’s not
That’s just how it is

but if a trans man felt they might be a bit scarey or a threat there’s nothing stopping them using the mixed sex. They can make that choice of course

I had very short hair for two years and was glared at for using women's toilets on multiple occasions. That's why I fully understand why trans men might want to use men's facilities if gender neutral spaces aren't available. Hell, I wanted to use men's facilities because the glaring and muttering was so uncomfortable.

BundleBoogie · 11/10/2025 18:19

WiddlinDiddlin · 11/10/2025 15:06

I thought it wasn't an issue for trans men who 'pass' to use the mens facilities. But they may well still need tampons.

Last time I raised the point that in the efforts to ensure no actual men use the ladies, it would mean transmen who pass using the ladies, I was told pretty soundly, it doesn't matter if they use the mens.

So why is it an issue if theres tampons in there? (And yeah I know way way more transmen who would pass than transwomen!)

‘Passing’ is very subjective. Carefully posed images online don’t show all the physical tells of a persons sex. That said, men are often not very observant so it may not upset all directly.

It’s not fair to expect men to share their spaces with girls with a mental health disorder though. It leaves them open to claims of sexual harassment or just being made uncomfortable from a lack of privacy. Some men struggle to pee if other men are there, let alone a woman trying to convince them she’s a man.

And the inevitable side effect if that is allowed is men demanding to be in women’s spaces. That is the real intention with all of this.

The National Trust have been pushing a woke agenda for years. You may have missed it.

There is absolutely zero need to put tampons in men’s toilets. As PP pointed out, they don’t bother to put them in the disabled toilets where women might actually need them. It is money wasting virtue signalling.

How many women that take testosterone enough to make them grow a beard but somehow have escaped the very common and early side effect of their periods stopping AND are visitors to NT while on their period do you think there are?

5? 1? Zero?

If someone has changed their body to the extent that they maybe mistaken for a man then they should use the unisex facilities as the new guidance says.
I wonder if you were worried about womens feelings when bearded men in dresses were invading women's facilities previously

If you think women would object to other women in the female toilets because they might momentarily mistake them for men, why do you think actual men should be able to use female toilets?

What if there are no unisex facilities?

If you take the very drastic decision to alter your body with surgery and cross sex hormones, one of the (more minor) consequences of that is that you will have to plan outings more carefully around the availability of suitable public toilets.
