National Trust & tampons

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 10/10/2025 17:37

NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

Unimportant, most of us have more important things to worry about

Then why click on the thread to just post such nonsense??

It's for trans men, no?

(women who present as a man but still have a period)

So still there for women.

who should be in the women’s toilet or a unisex one. Not the men’s

Laiste · 10/10/2025 18:39

Oh xpost.

Really? It's law that a trans man has to be in the women's loo?

Is it law that men in a dress have to use the gents then?

VikaOlson · 10/10/2025 18:40

Hard to believe this has any impact on your life?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 18:40

Who would use the men’s toilets - women who have transitioned to men or men who have transitioned to women?

Men who are now transwomen use the gents. Because they're still men.
And men don't need tampons.

Transmen (who are women) would use the ladies.

Have you been asleep for the last 6 months?

Yes!

Jellybunny56 · 10/10/2025 18:41

Madness, I’d rather our local one focused on keeping the toilets stocked with actual toilet roll than unnecessary tampons in the mens

SeaAndStars · 10/10/2025 18:41

The real horror story here is that tampons are tested on animals. Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and baboons to be precise. Bacteria laced tampons are inserted into their vaginas and in the case of rabbits into the skin on their neck.

Only the Telegraph are reporting the National Trust story.

Laiste · 10/10/2025 18:42

yes.
😊

no seriously i didn't teise that it was actually law that trans women weren't allowed into women's loos.

Good!

Bagsintheboot · 10/10/2025 18:43

It's a bit odd but I really don't see how this is hurting anyone. It's certainly not something I'd be up in arms about.

HansHolbein · 10/10/2025 18:14

What do men use tampons for?

Nose bleeds 😂

BrownTroutBluesAgain · 10/10/2025 18:45

Hope they’re putting adverts asking for donations aswell about period poverty

BlueandPinkSwan · 10/10/2025 18:45

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 10/10/2025 18:16

DH says

  • nose bleeds after a punch up
  • bullet holes

Neither seems to fit with the usual ambiance or clientele of a NT site..

Edited

Some men like shoving up their arses?

Toddlerteaplease · 10/10/2025 18:21

Me neither! Never seen it at any property.

It was reported in the Telegraph today.

amylou8 · 10/10/2025 18:46

Small matter of a supreme court ruling that says women who think they're men shouldn't be in the mens loo anymore than men who think they're women should be in the ladies. But a lovely bit of virtue signalling NT.

JohnBullshit · 10/10/2025 18:46

Honestly more troubled by the animal testing than any of this other shite. Tampons in the men's. So what?

ChristmasFairyLiquid · 10/10/2025 18:46

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 18:38

No, of course they don't.
They don't acquire a uterus when they "transition".
How could they?
Amazed that this needs to be explained.

Well this is what I thought, but this thread (and my head cold!) were making me doubt myself!

What on earth is the point of this then, other than the ‘a dad might want to get one for his daughter’, which seems possible, but unlikely. Or the lady mentioned above who is very butch and prefers men’s toilets - again, probably not representative of many people.

Apart from that lady - surely nobody who needs tampons should be in the men’s toilets.

I get the ‘it’s not doing any harm’ - it just seems a strange thing to bother doing.

Because men can’t have periods.
Hope that helps.

But trans men can ? Genuine question - would they use the mens or womens toilets ?

HappyNewTaxYear · 10/10/2025 18:48

hoarahloux · 10/10/2025 18:03

If it helps one single person and has zero negative effect, what's the issue?

Such a poor argument. If it helps one single person, it will have been a complete waste of National Trust money.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 10/10/2025 18:48

Quite right. Nobody at all.

Exactly what I thought - thank you. This thread was making me question it.

Don't be so pompous!

Scrolling on Mumsnet is definitely unimportant (though entertaining).
Why don't you toddle off and do something "important" and leave the rest of us to enjoy this thread.

TimeForATerf · 10/10/2025 18:48

Virtue signalling, they’ve only started leaving them recently when “men” needed them, I bet they weren’t in the ladies in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Utter tosh.
