What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

Lokielo · 08/10/2025 17:47

Pork pie is traditional here.

Bundleflower · 08/10/2025 17:48

Smoked salmon with poached eggs. Washed down with Bucks Fizz. The ‘Bucks’ element optional!

ForFunGoose · 08/10/2025 17:48

I make sausage rolls , the recipe is on the just roll pastry box . Sausage meat, grated apple and hoisin sauce. They can be pre made and freeze well, I cook in over or airfryer depending on how many I need.

ForFunGoose · 08/10/2025 17:49

^ Freeze before baking

Cordee · 08/10/2025 17:49

A bagel board?

I am a fan of a later breakfast at say 10:30/11 then lunch at 2/3pm.

breakfast I make more into a starter. Something like a fish platter, smoked salmon, prawns, pate, rye bread, etc

then serve the main later around 2/3, sometimes cheese & pudding to follow but sometimes serve those later again at say 7pm. So one big meal but staggered through the day intermixed with a walk and boardgames. Casual and relaxed.

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

Usually mini pastries (Sainsbury or Waitrose frozen), coffee and fresh juice.
DS' finest Christmas breakfast was the year Sainsbury did a pigs in blankets pot noodle.

Marmaladelover · 08/10/2025 17:51

Very similar to @Bundleflower
scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and cream
Bucks Fizz with Cointreau as well as orange juice and bubbles

I always get confused and think fish is veggie! 😆

Champagne
sourdough toast and proper butter

ByKindOpalPoet · 08/10/2025 17:53

I do a homemade McDonald’s type muffin with bucks fizz

SilkAndSparklesForParties · 08/10/2025 17:53

Well, here we go to 9.30am mass, and have open smoked salmon sarnies and champagne with presents at 11ish. Breakfast is a free for all. When the dc were children, they had something from their selection boxes, dh had a small bowl of muesli with mil and fil and because I was always a sidesman on Christmas morning, I got the turkey out, simmered an oonion in milk for bread sauce, made the smoked salmon sarnies and bunged some olives into a bowl, peeled the spuds, snips and carrots and set the table. I had a cup of tea and as a Christmas treat a couple of biscuits.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 08/10/2025 17:54

Fry up xx

Ponderingwindow · 08/10/2025 17:54

Breakfast casseroles. My favorite the last few years is bread, sausage, cheese, apple, and a bit of onion. Soak in the egg and milk mixture overnight. Just pop in the oven in the morning.

you can make sweet or savory. They have to be prepped in advance and do not need any presence in the kitchen on the actual day.

5foot5 · 08/10/2025 17:54

We typically have bacon rolls, Bucks Fizz and coffee. It is usually a very casual breakfast, not at the table, while we open presents.

'The veggies' might enjoy just the poached eggs or push the boat out and offer them avacado too!

We usually do pastries and boiled egg and soldiers for those who want more, but I am tempted to copy @TMMC1 as this sounds excellent!

AntiBullshit · 08/10/2025 17:55

Bacon sarnies and cups of tea.

applegingermint · 08/10/2025 17:55

Bagels, smoked salmon, cream cheese and Buck’s Fizz. Keeps everyone full til lunch.

gingercat02 · 08/10/2025 17:57

Bacon and egg or sausage in a roll, with OJ/Bucks Fizz/Champagne but we don't eat until late afternoon

Marmaladelover · 08/10/2025 17:57

I have done eggs Royale that’s poached egg , smoked salmon and homemade hollandaise sauce

For vegetarians I would substitute the salmon for spinach which is called eggs florentine .

The trick for multiple poached eggs is to cook them individually or in pairs for 2 .5 min and then transfer to cold water until all done then transfer them all back to boiling water to cook for 1 more minute .
Dont forget the lemon juice to the water .

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 08/10/2025 17:58

Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, with Bucks Fizz or Bellinis if I remember to get peach juice!

MadisonAvenue · 08/10/2025 17:59

Usually just a couple of croissants each but I quite fancy copying @ByKindOpalPoet’s breakfast this year.
