What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

Nice pastries (sweet/cheese croissants, pain au choc etc) and melon here.

I really like the idea of having nice bread with pate and smoked salmon for elevenses though.

DollyPumpkin · 08/10/2025 19:01

Really crispy smoked streaky bacon butties on thick white bread with a thick layer of lurpak and ketchup and mayonnaise mixed together. With a brew and a glass of Buck’s Fizz. Making me hungry just thinking about it

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:05

@JuvenileBigfoot you’d be horrified how quickly I can eat gravadlax, and usually you get not a lot! Saying that I’ll go to Lidl to do a taste test. I might need to stop by the bakery for some mini baguettes to have with it… and a brownie….

@Latenightreader is the dill sauce in a jar? Ocado do three types, is the ikea one nicer? I love it with smoked salmon on a cohen’s bagel.

It is - I've never found anything as good as the ikea version, but I've never shopped with Ocado (I now feel I should try). I used to live 20 minutes from Ikea so never needed to look further, but now feel inspired!

Second breakfast is smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels. First breakfast is something out of the selection box and baileys coffee in bed while we do our stockings

lifeisgoodrightnow · 08/10/2025 19:08

Eggs Benedict/ royale

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/10/2025 19:10

If they're going to be there for breakfasts, then I assume they're also overnight guests? What will everyone have eaten on Christmas Eve night? And what time are they likely to get up? And what time are you doing Christmas dinner for?

All those things would have a bearing on what I'd offer guests for breakfast on Christmas day. Our Christmas Day breakfasts have always been rushed, something to fit in as we're rushing round all tryiing to have showers then opening presents, getting the turkey in the oven, prepping veg, texting friends and relatives, last minute present-wrapping. We usually just end up having a totally normal breakfast, then scoffing chocolates through the morning and then doing smoked salmon, plus a few canapes and champagne at around 11.30 or 12.00 around doing all the other actiites that go on.

I usually aim to serve dinner between 2 and 3pm and that's the main event of the day so I couldn't give a feck about fancy breakfasts really. As long as I get my smoked salmon and champagne.

When Dd was at home I always made her smoked salmon and scrambled duck eggs with added cream on fancy bread.
Now it's just me I have my usual cup of tea.

Ooh, scrambled duck egg! 😍
What a lovely mum you are 😋

MuddyPawsIndoors · 08/10/2025 19:11

I'm rather partial to a drink but I just couldn't face drinking alcohol at breakfast 😁🤮

youalright · 08/10/2025 19:11

We usually wait until we've opened a selection box and start eating that

Bikergran · 08/10/2025 19:13

Our tradition is croissants with jam or Nutella with Bucks Fizz. I decorate the breakfast table the night before. It's festive and light, so doesn't spoil Christmas lunch.

ChannelingmyinnerMsRachel · 08/10/2025 19:13

We usually have bacon or sausage baps

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 08/10/2025 19:13

Toast and chocolate

Full Fry up on Boxing day around midday

Ooogle · 08/10/2025 19:15

We have kids who love sugary cereal like Frosties or pain au chocolates which they’re not normally allowed unless it’s their birthday or Xmas so have that.

otherwise for just adults I’d do buffet style - pastries on a plate, bacon, eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, beans, toast etc and let people pick what they want. Maybe have some cereals on the side if anyone wants any of that and then teas and coffee.

EleanorReally · 08/10/2025 19:18

scrambled eggs croissants smoked salmon

MiddleAgedDread · 08/10/2025 19:18

Same as the other days of the year, whatever you make yourself out of the cupboard!

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:19

@Latenightreader I live 20 minutes from an ikea, if not less than. I’m now considering a pre-Christmas taste test 😆

We have a posh pork pie from the local butchers, bread and butter with marmalade and champagne to wash it down. It’s been a tradition in our family certainly as long as I can remember.

Go for it, then let me know how they compare!

Betty1625 · 08/10/2025 19:24

Continental style buffet breakfast (cheese, cured meat or salmon, nice bread, croissants, fruit salad and yoghurt)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 08/10/2025 19:26

Blarn · 08/10/2025 18:39

Croissants. Always just buttered when I was young but dh and one dc like them with cheese and ham so they have that and dd2 and I have just butter. It's nice and easy but feels like a treat, even though we do have them throughout the year!

Buttered croissants?! Croissants are 30 per cent or more butter anyway, in the recipe, doesn't it just feel like you're eating a load of grease?

Bowling4soup · 08/10/2025 19:26

I love this thread! My 2 favourite ideas from it are champagne with sourdough and butter. Or the croissants with cheese and honey, think I’ll do both of those options this year 🥂

It's lovey, it was generous enough a portion for DP and he's an EATER.
We did get one each though.
It'd be great on some rye bread.

youalright · 08/10/2025 19:26

Screamingabdabz · 08/10/2025 18:10

Jeez I’m a fatty big eater but how on earth do you all eat that rich breakfast AND a full Christmas dinner a few hours later? I just can’t reconcile the MN size 6 mentality and what is on this thread at all!!

Same I can really eat but this is loads. I would never dream of having a huge breakfast on Christmas morning then a full Christmas dinner a few hours later. I'd end up in a food coma all day

Toasted buttered croissants are the best!! Cut one in half (like you would a pitta bread so you get 2 thinner slices) then sort of flatten it so it will fit in the toaster, toast for a minute or two then butter like a piece of toast….. 🤤
