What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

@inamo well, you could blow me down with a feather, I’ve never heard of such a thing. But I’ll be making it!

TheBucketFamily · 08/10/2025 18:21

Wholemeal sourdough toast with smashed avocado and grilled tomatoes (and a poached egg, possibly).

Or a small bowl of raspberries and blueberries, served with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a handful of chopped nuts.

Or a slice of homemade banana bread.

Or almond flour pancakes, served with warm stewed berries and a dollop of Greek yogurt.

I get a good selection of danish pastries/croissants from a local deli and they do some amazing frozen cinammon rolls. All just goes in the oven, job done, and I usually do some nice wholegrain toast for those who don't want sugar. We have orange juice and coffee to wash it down with.

TheatricalLife · 08/10/2025 18:23

We don't have anything usually -depends on if lunch is earlier or later in the day.
If it's later, we might have toast or fruit. Something light. I do really like the idea of doing something special though. Keeping an eye on this thread to get some ideas!

We gave bacon butties (I have quorn bacon)

Zempy · 08/10/2025 18:25

Selection Box is traditional around here 😊

BusySittingDown · 08/10/2025 18:25

What?! You mean it's not tradition to have selection box chocolates, washed down with Bucks Fizz for breakfast on Christmas Day? Oh.

I’d do this if the veggies (my brother and sil) weren’t coming.

You can get fake salmon fillets in most supermarkets - Vivera brand in the chilled section.

NormasArse · 08/10/2025 18:26

We take a picnic of egg or bacon, with avocado, sandwiches, a flask of coffee, and some Buck’s Fizz on a sunrise walk up a local hill.

Tires the dogs out too!! (They don’t have the avocado).

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/10/2025 18:27

Scrambled egg and smoked salmon with toast.

Doesn’t have to have the smoked salmon, or you could do bacon for those who don’t like it.

I think it should be savoury esp if it’s going to be a long time til lunch.

Latenightreader · 08/10/2025 18:28

Smoked salmon, bagels and horseradish, unless I've been able to get to IKEA to buy their dill sauce. If that's the case, possibly pickled herrings too. Always a glass of bucks fizz. And chocolate money.

It is over here!

GiantTeddyIsTired · 08/10/2025 18:29

Smoked Salmon, pate, melba toasts - and yeah some fruit, and a lower -alcohol fizzy so I don't peak too soon :)

AffIt · 08/10/2025 18:29

Smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, bagels, cream cheese, panettone and Bellinis!

We don't eat until around 4pm, so it's fairly substantial but minimal effort.

RaininSummer · 08/10/2025 18:29

I usually do croissants with yoghurt, preserves and fruit or bacon sandwiches for carnivores. Fruit juice, coffee and bucks fizz if liked.

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 08/10/2025 18:30

When Dd was at home I always made her smoked salmon and scrambled duck eggs with added cream on fancy bread.
Now it's just me I have my usual cup of tea.

LadyRoughDiamond · 08/10/2025 18:30

I have two children, and so it’s usually pastries (the frozen finish-in-the-oven type) with Buck’s Fizz/OJ/coffee whilst presents are opened.

We then have nibbles at about midday as a starter - smoked salmon blinis, maybe scallops or oysters, more fizz. Kids are knee-deep in selection box wrappers by this stage.

Do duck eggs taste different @LarryIsMyRomanEmpire ? I’ve always been curious. This could be our Boxing Day breakfast.

Comedycook · 08/10/2025 18:33

I've never done a special breakfast...I really don't need another sodding meal to prep/cook/clean up after...

Just have something from a selection box

I'm partial to a grapefruit, just because it feels like the perfect antidote to the rest of the day.

I'd be inclined to keep it simple and set up so ppl can help themselves. Yogurt, whole fruit bowl, loaf of bread, decent butter, marmalade, marmite, maybe a plate of smoked salmon and a couple of boxes of eggs on standby if anyone should volunteer to scramble them.
