What do you do for your Xmas breakfast?

I am hosting for the first time. I am 29, in my newly gutted and decorated home so plan to push the boat out. No children will be in attendance. Only adults. I enjoy hosting and cooking/baking.

What do you do for Christmas brekkie? I want it to be posh but light and easy. I was thinking of doing cinnamon buns and fruit salad. Plus tea, coffee, juice and fizz.

But then I think most people who are coming don’t really have sweet tooth’s (myself included liked). Stuffed croissants? DIY style? There will be a couple of veggies. And then some mini sweet pastries? But then that seems like too much pastry. Parfait?

I wouldn’t mind doing waffles/crepes but I don’t think that will be fun as I don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen whilst everyone else eats.

Xmas lunch is at 2.

Sorry this is being asked in Oct!

there will be plenty of snacks/canapes/seeet treats throughout the day

Our daughter is 15, so we don't have anyone over at breakfast now (yaaaaayyyy 😂). When she was young, and grandparents and other family came over to see her open gifts, I would do a pile of breakfast rolls (bacon and slice sausage) and a big dish of pancakes. Everyone just helped themselves, and they made their own hot drinks or fizz.

I would love to come to yours @Cordee sounds like you'll be laying on some good hospitality 😋 Hope it all goes great 😊

How about posh sausage sandwiches? Nice bread, good quality sausages and condiments, easy to do veggie sausages, then you could still have pastries for breakfast dessert if you wanted to?

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:31

@JuvenileBigfoot so now I’ve got to try it with rye! It’s a hard life.

BeRoseSloth · 08/10/2025 19:31

Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Takes 10 mins.

Buttered croissants?! Croissants are 30 per cent or more butter anyway, in the recipe, doesn't it just feel like you're eating a load of grease?

In the words of Noddy Holder: "Its Criiiiiiistmaaaaas!" I may add extra butter at Christmas but in the house, my croissants are always buttered.

My dad used to heat them in the oven, butter them and then pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to get the butter really soaked in! I don't go that far!

AleynEivlys · 08/10/2025 19:33

Croissants from the oven, salted butter, orange or apple juice and hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows for the children.

ShodAndShadySenators · 08/10/2025 19:33

We do a full English for breakfast, but aren't big on Christmas dinner so just have a buffet in the evening with stocking chocolate and fudge etc in between

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:33

If you buy the frozen croissants and leave them out to defrost a bit, you can then cook them in a waffle maker. Top with ice cream and fruit compote or some warmed Nutella or biscoff.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, with Buck’s Fizz

Starhaf · 08/10/2025 19:34

I’d do toasted sourdough, scrambled egg with spinach and smashed avocado. Add smoked salmon for the non veggies

Great idea - I fancy this! Some proper good sausages on buttery toasted baguettes with plenty HP 😋

Nothing but coffee we have no children and just don't eat breakfast tbh we eat christmas dinner around 3pm and probably have a snack in the evening lol

Thejackrussellsrule · 08/10/2025 19:36

We do scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on breakfast muffins. Nothing too heavy before the main event, but something to accompany the bucks fizz.

Cravey · 08/10/2025 19:39

Bacon rolls, pastries and toast or cereal also on offer. Juices, tea, coffee and Buck’s Fizz also.

We typically have bacon rolls, Bucks Fizz and coffee. It is usually a very casual breakfast, not at the table, while we open presents.

Yep, same in our house. Christmas morning should be relaxed, I wouldn’t want to be sat at a table eating or creating any more washing up than needed!

Fountofwisdom · 08/10/2025 19:46

Our go-to is smoked salmon bagels (with cream cheese, rocket or leaves, a squeeze of lemon juice, crack of black pepper) washed down with Buck’s Fizz or Kir Royale. Simple, classic and a suitably festive treat.

2Rebecca · 08/10/2025 19:47

smoked salmon and scrambled eggs coffee bucks fizz The bucks fizz starts when we are all up

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 19:50

Could you just do a couple of big salads? One fruit and one a winter salad with Brussels sprouts, pomegranate and roasted root veg and some really good leaves? Eat it mid morning as a brunch. You could do some poached eggs or crispy bacon on the top and some roasted sour dough.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 08/10/2025 19:50

Christmas morning I have always had smoked salmon, scrambled eggs on rye toast, fizz and coffee.
Boxing day breakfast is the best. I cook bubble and squeak. Left over christmas dinner. I fry in a pan, all the vegetables potatoes, turkey, beef, Yorkshire pudding and even steak pie. It sounds revolting but taste delicious. It is mixed together with a small amount of oil. Everyone loves it, even my fussy DD. I would throw in a box of quality street if I could get away with it. 😉

mamaduckbone · 08/10/2025 19:52

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on a muffin or slice of good sourdough.
Buck's Fizz
Coffee
Pastries for those who like something sweet (Dh makes Christmas buns a bit like cinnamon buns)

CharlotteCChapel · 08/10/2025 19:53

We have two. Mince pies whilst opening our presents, the scrambled egg and smoked salmon with bucks fizz, cava or orange juice depending on who's drinking.

We don't eat until 4 or 5 though.

NoSoupForU · 08/10/2025 19:53

I have normal breakfast. I can't stand all the OTT xmas stuff!

I am a fan of a later breakfast at say 10:30/11 then lunch at 2/3pm.

breakfast I make more into a starter. Something like a fish platter, smoked salmon, prawns, pate, rye bread, etc

then serve the main later around 2/3, sometimes cheese & pudding to follow but sometimes serve those later again at say 7pm. So one big meal but staggered through the day intermixed with a walk and boardgames. Casual and relaxed.

I like this idea a lot...we are adults only this year so I may pinch it!

2Rebecca · 08/10/2025 19:55

the bucks fizz is cava or prosecco ( I prefer cava) plus OJ, not the premixed stuff

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 08/10/2025 19:57

I do french toast (made with a sliced brioche loaf) and serve with crispy, streaky bacon, maple syrup, cinnamon sugar and a big dollop of marscapone. It's the most amazing blend of sweet and salty.
