In the wake of the tragic events that took place in Manchester, I want to implore people not to lose steam or, more importantly, hope.

Gaza is still facing destruction, famine and genocide.

We need to continue to peacefully pressure our government to take action and sanction the Israeli government and to educate and inform people about the horrors faced by the Palestinian people day in and day out for the last two years.

People who opposed the liberation of Palestine want for this to be a turning point. For people to point the finger at a movement that wants to see the end of the suffering of millions and label it as inciting hate.

It's not.
And it's important.

Please don't put down your passion for Gaza.

I’m between the two. Even as part Jewish, I don’t support Israel. Neither do I support terrorists. But I’m old enough to remember the IRA attacks over here, abd we carried on with everything normal. 🤷‍♀️

But, nothing done or said here, on either side, will have the slightest influence anywhere that matters. 🤷‍♀️

I agree.
I genuinely don't think the protesting is making a positive difference, perhaps at the beginning, now the protesting has a different voice, causing massive division.
There is no protesting against other wars, we should be against all the conflicts in the world.
I don't have the answers.

Grammarnut · 04/10/2025 16:42

Absolutely agree. There are thousands dying in Sudan as well, in a vicious civil war and women being gang-raped on an industrial scale. No-one marching for that. Nor for the Christians being murdered in Nigeria (wrong religious people killing them) or the Druze in Syria (wrong killers again).

DrPrunesqualer · 04/10/2025 16:42

ilod · 04/10/2025 16:36

extremely disingenuous to declare that a thread about the palestine protests mustn’t discuss antisemitism or the manchester attack. But yes, you’d love it if antisemitism and antisemitic attacks were ignored, wouldn’t you?

The protests are for peace in Gaza

As OP rightly stated no one stopped demonstrations by pro Israelis as Palestinians were killed and starved every day
No one in this country including the pro Palestinians had the audacity to call that out as a lack of empathy

If you dont agree fine. I don’t care

I have empathy for all those who suffer at the hands of others. I don’t care what religion they are and I don’t believe any religion can take the moral high ground

This is a land grab war by Israel that has to stop

EsmaCannonball · 04/10/2025 16:43

I'd like to issue an apology. All through this conflict I've been saying that the Ceasefire Now! people and Stop the War wouldn't want a ceasefire or to stop the war if Hamas was winning. Turns out they don't want those things if Hamas is losing either.

'The words ‘racist’ and ‘facist’ have lost all meaning'

They haven't. It just the racists and fascists don't like being called that and don't consider themselves to be that in many cases.
as it ever was. 'I'm not racist but...'

Wrong.
They are used to silence …….its not working any more.
How many times do you have to be told.

It appears you have no empathy for Jews who are highly distressed by your protests. So you keep telling yourself you’re kind and moral. Shane on you! Shame on you! No one is fooled by these protests and what they hide.

Again! Where am I cheering on Hamas. Pls show me and don’t slunk away. Stand by what you are saying.

Again what? I'm talking about the people on the pro-Palestine marches. They are cheering on Hamas. If that's you, then you're included.

Using the recognised definition of anti semitism and the posters posts please explain how @Bananadramaa is anti semitic ????

You do know using this term so incorrectly and freely demeans its relevance

well then go out and protest against Hamas if you’d like peace in Gaza. They’re the reason peace isn’t happening there.

Icreatedausernameyippee · 04/10/2025 16:39

They have. Israel haven't.

Israel has. Hamas is prevaricating. Palestinians have rejected several peace plans, statehood etc. The Nakba, so often raised here, was caused by Arab nations telling Arabs to leave Israel so they would not be killed in the coming war. You can hardly blame Israel (which had to take in hundreds of thousands of displaced Jews who were told to leave the countries they had lived in for 100s of years) not wanting back people who left them to die - those Arabs who remained (Muslim, Christian, Druze etc) have the same rights as all other Israeli citizens (though Netanyahu tried to change this, which is one reason I do not support Netanyahu).

Likewise, Israel has been clear in its mission to prevent Palestine from existing in a meaningful way. The government have been clear that they won't stop until Palestine is stomped out.

The state of Israel was awarded to European Jews following a great, great, tragedy. They were given their parcel of land and a chance to start a new.
The problem is that they haven't been content with their lot. They've steamrolled over the land and lives of the people already calling that place home.

They've been occupying land that isn't theirs, forcefully displacing people.

War has been tearing the land apart for decades now.

We're at a point where both sides can only see their survival with the destruction of the other and It's not what anyone objective wants to see.

A two state solution can only come about with a fair division of land and the dissolving of both governments.

A two state solution can only come about with a fair division of land and the dissolving of both governments.

Absolutely, and this is what Hamas and their predecessors have rejected.

It seems they want war. And their own people are paying the heaviest price.

Bananadramaa · 04/10/2025 16:48

Everyone wants a ceasefire (except possibly Hamas) and Israel wants back the hostages before the remaining living 24 are killed.

Exactly.

It really does make me wonder how people get into this position where they are taking the side of terrorists and even when faced with indisputable evidence are unable to step down from their stance.

I guess it's like Nazi supporters in WW2. They justify it to themselves and to one another, as it continues to escalate. And the more it escalates, the more they justify it to themselves, and so on. The psychology is actually fascinating.

Wrong. NB and Hamas both break the terms continuously. They don’t want peace and are in bed with other. They need each other.

This thread is about
Continuing to protest

Not the Manchester attack or
anti semitism
or anything to do with Jewish people

Protesting atm is crucial given there is a deal on the table which could stop the suffering of Palestinians
This is a key moment for an end to the war and perhaps even some freedom for Gazans going forward

Many many countries are showing their support and so should we

So now we're erasing Jewish people and the fact they're being attacked and murdered for views espoused and emboldened by these marches from the conversation? That tracks.

HermioneWeasley · 04/10/2025 16:55

The police need to concentrate their resources on protecting the Jewish community at the moment.

any marches or protests which divert resources away from that are despicable IMO

EmeraldShamrock000 · 04/10/2025 16:56

I'm a bit disappointed today with the big protest in Dublin, on the back of the Manchester attack, or people trying to justify it as "ah well". Europe is supposed to be better than that, attacking innocent people based on their beliefs, blood shed on the streets.

I think we all need to pull back a little, or use your voice to protest against all conflicts or just be kinder to each other. I know, kindness is weakness. 🙄

You believe for a second that Israel are willing to fairly divide the land and dissolve their current government to create equality for both Israel and Palestine?
Hamas are rejecting unfair "peace offers".

Hamas has agreed to release all hostages in return for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, as well as surrender governing power in the Gaza Strip, in accordance with Trump’s plan.

Of course. Although I am pleased to see it seems like just a few people on the thread who are justifying their suppport for terrorism, while most posters are rightly horrified.

Questionairballoon · 04/10/2025 16:58

Northernlights19 · 04/10/2025 16:34

Are you planning or attending any protests about the Christians being killed in Nigeria, out of interest?

I don’t just attend protests, I actively donate and find other ways to support people suffering. I can’t list all the causes I’ve been a part of but yes, Christians in Nigeria, Ahmedis in Pakistan, Uyghurs in China, all oppressed people.
