Growing trend for halal meat

1000 replies

SouthernFashionista · 29/09/2025 14:54

I’m seeing this and it concerns me. I have noticed that Five Guys is now advertising that all its meat is halal and the restaurant in my workplace serves only halal meat. Who is pushing for this and why do the rest of us have no say? For what it’s worth, I am a Black woman, a practising Catholic with many Muslim friends and acquaintances. I don’t believe they are out there demanding halal meat everywhere they go.

Please don't do that. He might send another flood and I've not had time to built an arc, or worse he might send the locusts again,.

It appears that you have chosen a vengeful and vindictive god. I suggest that you look for one who is more tolerant and forgiving. The Jewish, Christian and Muslim ones are all the same God, although, strangely, the old men who write down what he wants say different things, even in the subdivisions and sects inside each religion.

For some reason, each God seems to want the same things that his old men like and are familiar with, whether it is the clothes you wear, the food you eat, or what you do with your sex parts. It's almost as if the word of god is actually the word of assorted old men, who don't agree with each other.

I find myself drawn to the mysteries of Mythras, because that will give me the right to go to any part of the world within 500 miles of where a Roman once pitched a tent thousands of years ago, and to seize or destroy any house, farm, village or town, and dispossess the occupants, expel them, and kill any that object. If anyone complains, I will tell them God said so. If any resist, I will call them terrorists and exterminate their families. I understand this is widely considered acceptable.

So you’re happy to write long, facetious posts about presumably Christians, yet solemnly declare that others ‘need’ to slash animals throat and have them bleed out as a religious right?

Let us know how it goes. Will it just be you or have you managed to get some followers?

PigletJohn · 03/10/2025 15:19

It will be easier if I can trick somebody who supports my chosen religion to provide me with weapons.

But there is no ethical objection to my proposition.

Presumably I could get some racists and psychopathic killers to join in.

You don't choose your god. Your god chooses you. Mine is the one true god fortunately. Yes he is vengeful and nasty.

You don't know that yours is the one true god. You only believe it. Just like everyone else who believes.

And mithras is a good place to start do you think. Might be a hard sell in it's homeland. What are you offering. M&S vouchers? Free Parker pen? 72 virgins?

Are you a racist psychopath though? Apparently that's a requirement, and you need to bring your own weapons.

I have weapons. I can shoot a bow and use a sword. I can also ride a horse, skin and gut animals and forage for edible fruits and fungi.

Could you be a racist psychopath if required?

KitWyn · 03/10/2025 20:39

Bumblebee72 · 03/10/2025 10:06

No that is not logical either for a different reason. That isn't local because cows and pigs don't understand Arabic (or English or any other human language) so have no idea what they are listening to. One thing being illogical doesn't imply that something unrelated is logical. A not equally B does not imply that C equals D.

Edited

I don't quite get your point?

Non-human animals generally understand no, or very few, words, even those in the local human language? If the intention is have a comforting background noise to calm the animals, a little pastoral Bach would probably be much more effective?

I still don't understand the point of either the prayers or keeping the animals awake during their death. If it's to give thanks to your God and to show respect for the animals' lives, why not use the most compassionate slaughter methods currently available according to science? That's a much better demonstration of gratitude.

Non stun slaughter is an illogical choice. The available scientific evidence is unequivocal, it is cruel and causes unnecessary suffering.

So your Venn overlap is Mithras worshipping, racist psychopath, able to bring their own weapons, and apparently you can pay with plumbing expertise (viaducts, drainage & hypocausts are traditional for erstwhile empire builders).
It's a bit niche, you could try twiX..

Oh good god don't, if that somehow seeps into Elon Musk's brain and becomes his next Big Thing I will hold you all responsible.

Do people have an issue with kosher meat too?

I find it odd mentioning halal meat and no stunning but not that kosher meat uses a similar process?

Growing trend for halal meat
EmpressoftheMundane · 07/10/2025 13:08

I think the difference is that there are so few Jews in the UK that it was never efficient to make the whole supply chain for meat quietly kosher, as is happening with halal.

So halal is happening, but kosher isn’t.

PigletJohn · 07/10/2025 17:09

The far right in Britain prefers to attack Muslims. When you see them spreading false stories and arranging mobs to attack and try to burn down refugee hostels, they are very clear that they see Islam as the enemy.

They occasionally try to whip up hatred by claiming that Halal meat in your school or supermarket was slaughtered without stunning. This is generally untrue. It is mostly slaughtered to the normal UK standards. It becomes Halal when somebody recites a prayer. Which makes no difference at all to the animal.

Because they are trying to stir up hatred against Muslims, they try to skip over the fact that Halal meat in the shops is mostly humanely slaughtered, and Kosher meat is always unstunned.

A hundred years ago the far right liked to attack Jews, now they mostly attack Muslims.

The hatred has not changed, only the target.

They don't mind that the story they are spreading is false.
