Growing trend for halal meat

I’m seeing this and it concerns me. I have noticed that Five Guys is now advertising that all its meat is halal and the restaurant in my workplace serves only halal meat. Who is pushing for this and why do the rest of us have no say? For what it’s worth, I am a Black woman, a practising Catholic with many Muslim friends and acquaintances. I don’t believe they are out there demanding halal meat everywhere they go.

No it wouldn’t be. It is possible to care about more than one thing at once. I also object to clearance of palm trees and the death of orangutans for the growth of palm oil.

You are right - hatred towards Christians who do not want to be forced into any part of Islamic rituals.

I am horrified and livid in equal measure. I will be supporting the campaign for a judicial review.

Then I take it you highly disapprove of virtually every Islamic country who range from making being gay illegal to punishable by death?

It's clear from this thread that most anti halal meat sentiment is driven by either ignorance of the current UK slaughter practices or simple Islamaphobia or a combination of both.

Stunning. According to UK law animals must be stunned before slaughter. This is not done for halal (or kosher) slaughter.

Please read the thread. It's been pointed out numerous times that the majority of halal meat, certainly the meat you will find in restaurants and supermarkets IS stunned before slaughter.

Because some body/group who wanted unstunned kosher and halal meat has successfully lobbied the government for that privilege.

However, this whole thread was started about meat at Five Guys who have confirmed on their website that they only use meat that comes from a facility which has stunned animals before slaughter.

I disapprove of every country irrespective or religion which makes being gay illegal and punishable in any way whatsoever. Including the many Christian countries in Africa which behave that way, and also including China.

I am however capable of understanding that within faiths and cultures there are many disparate strands and individuals - unlike some on here who seem to want to view Islam specifically as a monolithic bloc whose adherents are all identical.

Has anyone even linked to the Five Guys site? Many stores do not serve halal at all, so it is bollocks for OP to say all their meat is halal.

And of course some of the people coming here from those homophobic countries may well be coming because they fear persecution due to their sexuality. Best not to stereotype.

Animals are not stunned for either halal or kosher slaughter.

The RSPCA report 88% of halal meat is stunned before slaughter.
Kosher meat isn’t.

Because some Muslims are arseholes. Just as some Christians are arseholes. And just as some Jews are arseholes. Organised religion increases the likelihood of someone becoming an arsehole, because people do things in mobs that they would not contemplate doing alone.

It's not Islam. It's religion. All and any religion, the moment it becomes an organisation where people start thinking in terms of 'them and us'.
