Fucking flags

xmaspud3 · 09/09/2025 15:01

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

The problem is one person can put up a bunch of flags and it gives the whole area a voice. Whereas most people in that area might rather the flags were not erected. And when the flags do have current connotations of being anti-immigrant, I think a lot of people would choose not to put them up. I do worry the current spate of flags does have racist undertones. I don’t think it’s done in good faith.

No, I don't have issues with anyone coming to live and work here, if they pay their taxes in this country. I welcome immigration.

So why blame billionaires? You just said you're fine If they pay their taxes. You never qualified your statement before.

It’s just a different side of the same coin..blaming another group people, that you're not a part of, for the country’s issues.

DontLikeMahoganyFurniture · 09/09/2025 15:29

I've recently returned from beautiful Switzerland and there were Swiss flags absolutely everywhere.

Are they racist too OP?

You know it’s not the same. The Swiss flags are out as you would expect according to their culture. These are in response to Operation Raise the Flag with the intent of intimidation and spreading of hate.

I'm in Scotland. Think I'm safe.

If I were to see a St George's Cross flying here, I'd think some poor bastard had a death wish but didn't have the funds to shout a flight to Dignitas.

I'm mildly amused by Swinney & Co getting their knickers in a twist by Saltires apparently being flown with similar racist intent because the Saltire is "inclusive"

Ha, ha, the Saltire was hijacked by the separatists years ago- it most definitely is not "inclusive"

English born, I can trace my maternal blood line back to the 15c in southern England but I don’t feel comfortable walking through streets that have the St George flag hanging everywhere.

Why ever not?

Exactly this.

Stop with the faux ignorance. I don’t mind the flag, I had one myself during the World Cup because I was showing support to my country. But it’s being done now in the wake of the anti-immigration protests to stir up hatred and division. Do the Swiss vandalise their roundabouts too?

Proud to be born in England. Makes me happy seeing them :) why shouldn't they be every here. Other countries have them up 🤷‍♀️

Never see flags here in County Cork unless it's Easter - to remember the Rising. Unless Ireland qualify for the World Cup. A rare enough event. You do see racists carrying them on their protests against immigration - the irony - but otherwise nope. Thank god.

I didn't blame billionaires. That was someone else. I was merely pointing out that, when it comes to any 'debate' about immigration, billionaires don't count as immigrants even if they are, for the purposes of the right's argument.

ManyShapesOfPasta · 09/09/2025 15:27

Scottish parliament won't let you in with a Scottish flag on your tshirt.

Good.Quite right too. The Saltire was hijacked years ago. It's not inclusive and I'd avoid anyone wearing it outside of perhaps a fotball or rugby international.

upseedaisee · 09/09/2025 19:14

Godamighty, you's think folk would have more important things to worry about than a few flags.

This is spot on and this is how Reform will get in as people are fed up of not being listened to and just labelled as racist and stupid.
OP - how about listening to people’s concerns instead of being all high and mighty thinking you’re better educated than anyone else.

Non-racist people don't generally vote for racist parties just to get one over on the woke/lefties/snowflakes. If they do, then they really are daft.

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/09/2025 19:17

It’s only a certain kind of hater shakily painting roundabouts right now and it’s nothing to do with patriotism, being well informed and a decent human being - we all know that ! Are they skilled, busy, kind.. working ??

rockstarshoes · 09/09/2025 19:18

How do those of you with your faux naive responses about the flags looking ‘pretty’ feel when you read the posts from people who are feeling afraid & intimidated by the flags?

Do you not read other peoples responses? Not care how it makes other people feel? Feel pleased with your fucking selves for supporting something that is making other people feel unsafe?

I’m genuinely interested!

So why not send the wife and children first?

This is not new. It is very easy to educate yourself.
Here is just one article. Note it is from 2016. It was not new then and it not new now. There are many reasons. This is one.

https://www.aljazeera.com/amp/features/2016/6/20/why-is-the-world-afraid-of-young-refugee-men

Why is the world afraid of young refugee men?

Much of the rhetoric around refugees centres on whether young, male refugees need protection or pose a security threat.

Godamighty, you's think folk would have more important things to worry about than a few flags.

That works both ways. It's an awful lot of effort to cable tie a flag to multiple lamposts and it always seems to be done at night.

Nice and easy fantasy to live in, black and white (genuinely no pun intended I just noticed and am writing this after I finished the comment), good and bad, every aspect of human complexity neatly removed - even if it spites yourself because it objective makes the issues, and society, worse.

The same for so many things in the world. The reality is your attitude is as damaging as the other side you complain about, but is easier and makes you feel good so you will stick to it no matter what.

SENlife · 09/09/2025 19:21

It will be interesting how everyone views these flags in 9 months 🤔 will you then see it as patriotic?

doubleshotcappuccino · 09/09/2025 19:23

Fresh from the Daily Fail:
“A rookie Reform UK politician has been arrested by police on suspicion of stalking, harassment, public disorder and assault after allegedly triggering an extraordinary internal row at his local council.
Sam Journet was arrested at Basildon council's headquarters, where three officers detained him on Monday morning over the allegations.”

Petitchat · 09/09/2025 19:23

This is reminding me about the trans thing, and just as insulting.

If you didn't want men dressed as women in ladies toilets, you were nazi, transphobic.

Now, if you object to the extreme numbers of immigration, you are racist.

So sick of this shit.
I'm glad that most of the old 'uns who fought in the wars to keep us free to ERECT OUR BRITISH FLAGS, are no longer here to see this.

You should be ashamed OP...

That is exactly the narrative that Farage is selling to his folliwers, which I wholeheartedly reject.

Tontostitis · 09/09/2025 18:37

I would take that as a message of support

I don't think do. There should be more different flags. A gym in my town started with an England flag and has invited people to bring in their own flags. It looks great full of diversity and tolerance.

upseedaisee · 09/09/2025 19:14

We do. People who daren't stand up for their own country.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/09/2025 19:25

Petitchat · 09/09/2025 19:14

And do the Swiss public complain about their own country's flags being flown?

NO. Only the English are so namby pamby....

People have a completely different reason and history of flying their flag there. The current obsession with flag flying is a particular political comment.

BlueLimes · 09/09/2025 19:26

The OP has nothing to be ashamed about.

the posters who don’t care that others feel intimated and scared however might want to do a little self reflection.
