Fucking flags

1000 replies

xmaspud3 · 09/09/2025 15:01

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

So, my friend, suffering religious persecution in her country. Husband came first. Then she came later with their 2 children. They lived in Home Office accommodation for 13 years. 4 people in a one bedroom flat in the roughest areas. They were moved around the country 5 times in that time. She was a teacher and he was a publisher. Here, she's a TA and he works in a photocopying shop.

But carry on with the racism. Don't let reality stop you.

Waterbaby41 · 09/09/2025 18:36

I'm flying my nation's flag in support of my nation's women's rugby team. Nothing racist in that at all. My nation, my flag. I have no idea if I'm in your area or not, and I don't give a fuck. Flags are flown for a lot of different reasons, get over it.

My thoughts exactly! and all those poorly painted daubs are going to look even worse once the frost and the rain have taken their toll

Ours were taken down within hours thankfully . Get on to your council

My neighbour opposite has put up a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. I responded with a passive aggressive 🙂 flag.

Love this. Great idea.

I would take that as a message of support

EasternStandard · 09/09/2025 18:37

No flags here so it’s not really something I’m focusing on at all but I did just see a pic of the white horse with red ribbons in the press, which the op might want to swerve.

Rugbyballhead · 09/09/2025 18:38

I like having our flags up if there's a special occasion, like the coronation but I don't like them all up everywhere at the moment because they're not up for a nice reason.

Uricon2 · 09/09/2025 18:40

Mummylovesmonkeys · 09/09/2025 18:24

I just wish I was younger and fitter - if I was I would invest in a stencil and some spray paint and climb up to each one and spray 'Britain Supports the Refugees' on each and every one.

Maybe those of us who are unhappy with the current climate, racist rallies and misuse of the flag should adopt the 3 Lions as a symbol.

Try painting them on a roundabout or a post

derxa · 09/09/2025 18:40

There’s the added factors of sectarianism and nationalism. As I said earlier Oor Nicola has decided that flags are a bad thing. She forgets draping herself with the Saltire.

F the sun and dm. So to journalists do not publish my posts without my express consent

Not a sun or Daily Mail reader myself, you have lost me I'm afraid, have they published your views then?

DrSnooze · 09/09/2025 18:42

Not yet but Mumsnet publishes posts sometimes

Ohdearanotherone · 09/09/2025 18:44

Hate it. It’s the context behind them that’s worrying. They re clearly put up in a bid to intimidate.

StupidRules · 09/09/2025 16:42

How do you know people aren't doing it to be patriotic? How do you know they are all racists with racist intent? How do you know that ordinary decent people who are tired of not being allowed to voice certain concerns without being called racist or fascist aren't just sending a message that they've had enough of being ignored, patronised and sneered at?

How do you know that there isn't a clear determination to reclaim the England flag from racist organisations and to allow British people of English descent to feel pride in their flag and to fly it without fear of people like you looking down their noses at them and making ridiculous assumptions? English people have just as much right to feel proud of being English as the Welsh do to be Welsh and the Scots do to be Scots. Would you go to Scotland and Wales and tell them they must be racist to display their own national flag? Or France? Because good luck with that.

It's attitudes like yours that are causing this and yet you just can't see it. This is how Brexit happened and took you all by surprise.

This is spot on and this is how Reform will get in as people are fed up of not being listened to and just labelled as racist and stupid.
OP - how about listening to people’s concerns instead of being all high and mighty thinking you’re better educated than anyone else.

HangingOver · 09/09/2025 17:22

I feel like they're fairly unlikely to do a good job in those circumstances.

I wouldn't want someone caring for my relative by force.

But you may not care how the shelves were stacked or other jobs that are not looking after people/with responsibility.

Easipeelerie · 09/09/2025 18:46

Wynter25 · 09/09/2025 15:01

Nope. Love seeing the flags :)

Even though you know the purpose behind them?

Other people discomfort and upset is tedious?

Yet you posted rather than scrolled on. Guess another day with the opportunity to be dismissive.

Its the same old, same old, nobody says anything that has not been said on every other daily bloody thread. Op Started this thread because she couldn't be bothered seeking the many other threads on this.
Lazy as well as tedious

Why do you lot always say you're "not being listened to"? What does it even mean. We're obviously listening, hence this discussion. Being heard doesn't mean you get what you want.

@Wynter25- other nations don’t have a history of them being linked with nefarious individuals in the same way. The National Front, football thugs, fascists, racists etc etc

And therefore we are entitled to take our flags back from those people.

They do not represent fascism or extreme beliefs: they represent our country. I like seeing them

There are no flags where I live (London). No painted roundabouts or anything anywhere.

This whole overnight flag nonsense has very unpleasant undertones. I think we should just call it out for what it is - xenophobia.

I'm bored with the "I'm not racist but ..." brigade.

These type of people hanging these flags and painting roundabouts are evidently the type of people who have rarely left their town, have low education, a massive chip on their shoulders and are very unpleasant characters overall. Unfortunately, these people live among us, but they do not represent British values. They are utter morons, no more.

Yet, they somehow find a way to rally the masses and make their way into power. We must always speak against it. Too many turn the other cheek and then it's too late...

Nannyfannybanny · 09/09/2025 18:48

What do people mean "England flag", st George Cross? He grew up in Palestine and is also the patron saint of Palestine and many other countries. Red/white/blue is the Union Flag, Union Jack is the flag on a ship.

Easipeelerie · 09/09/2025 18:48

Eloeeze · 09/09/2025 15:11

Some people like em, some people don’t. Hey ho.
What else is new to clutch pearls over and get anxiety about?

You’re underplaying the situation. This is a very unusual and new situation in which people, feel emboldened to show their dislike for particular types of foreigner.
