Fucking flags

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

Immigrants are net contributors to our economy. They are paying taxes and putting back in once allowed to work. We have a declining birth rate and a falling population- without immigration, by 2030 there will not be enough tax payers in the UK to sustain our infrastructure needs.

Asylum seekers and undocumented migrants do not claim benefits, they don’t get iPads and they aren’t living in 4 star luxury. They get £48 a week, and whilst some of the buildings may once have operated as 4 star hotels they are now running as basic dormitories - just look at all the former grand and historical buildings that now run as a Wetherspoons. Immigrants make up less than 0.5% of government spending, and pay more than that in in taxes.

So what is the problem? The 0.5% being spent on immigrants and refugees or the billions more being lost to tax dodging billionaires and corporations? Meanwhile Farage has voted for further tax cuts for the rich, and against tax cuts for lower income families. He voted against job security for low income earners, and against protections for low earners like ending zero hour contracts. He voted against legislation to tackle stalking and harassment of women. But sure, he’s on your side…. 🤔

Other countries don't have them on every fucking lamp post and motorway bridge and spray painted on traffic roundabouts, level crossings and fucking dog poo bins. This isn't patriotism. It's not about loving our country. It's about hating immigration and I'm sick of the disingenuous justifications for it.

"I'm proud of my country - why aren't you?" I am. I'm not proud of our flag being used as a weapon to divide and intimidate. It's fucking pathetic.
"Why do you hate England so much?" I don't. I hate racism pretending to be patriotism.

"The left aren't patriotic" Absolute bullshit, and this isn't about left and right, it's about right and wrong, and using our national flag as a symbol of hate is fucking disgusting.

You didn’t answer the question at all. You just started banging on about national pride in response to my question about roundabouts so I put two and two together.

I would strongly advise you taking a bit more notice of the world around you. It’s really worrying that you think this trend is nothing to do with racism. I’m not saying the flag is, I’m saying the current craze of hanging flags off everything and vandalising roundabouts and signage is very clearly a sign of protest.

Well, we all know really, don't we, that one of the biggest demographic predictors of putting up the flags is poverty and disempowerment.

I live on a naice middle class road, and we are up in ARMS all over WhatsApp and Facebook, fighting to show our disapproval. Shouting about what we will do if the plebs start encroaching on our privileged liberal utopia. Racism, as we all know, is a scourge. But, you know, I wonder how WE'd all behave if WE were at the very sharp end of all the political/technocratic decisions fucking up our lives and futures.

All this - just fuelling the fires plays right into the hands of those who DO have power, who seek to divide us....

Let me guess- change Ginger Spice to a rap artist and it would be a different ball game. As I said, predictable. You crack on with thinking it's fine to make a girl feel ashamed to be British. I don't.

Why is it okay for people to be proud of being from other countries, but if you're English you're not allowed?

Except that’s also not true, is it? That particular individual wore a flag dress when the rules of the day were quite literally “students are free to wear national dress but no flags”. She broke the dress code rules, and was sent home. Simple as that. But don’t let the facts get in the way of your racism.

I live in wales too and two of my neighbours have Welsh flags, my son loves seeing them - thinking of getting one myself!

I genuinely think that POC and immigrants should also fly the flag, that would send a clear message that we belong here and will not be intimidated by this passive aggressive behaviour. I'm m sure it would confuse and send those who are flying it for racist purposes into a frienzy😆. Please don't let these kind of people win. You belong here like anybody else.

So I'm really a lefty and not opposed to migration or migrant hotels, we have one near us and it's fine but I don't feel flying a national flag in the country it belongs to should be a big deal. I know it is within the context people are doing it in but in Denmark people are crazy about their flag and have it all over the shop.

In effect we shouldn't let the right wing looneys have all the flag fun to themselves.

That crazies as extremist and bad as racists, are insulting and attacking people who havr flags out during the women's England run and just in general and using it for their own twisted agenda just like racist try and do as well sometimes?
