Fucking flags

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

Except that’s not true, and the fact you think it is is exactly the problem. 95% of children who are assaulted in the UK are assaulted by someone known to them, and 90% by a male family member. Child abusers in the UK are also 68% straight, white British men. The problem isn’t immigrants, the call is coming from inside the house. In fact, just today one of the anti-migrant protestors with their lovely “save are kids” banners was revealed to be a convicted child sex offender.

Pile on? The irony. What is good to see is more posters now not being afraid to have their say. If you don't like it, no worries. It's called democracy.

Yanbu It’s quite scary how many people are jumping on this bandwagon of hate. My DSis has been radicalised by watching 24 hr GBNews She lives in a leafy white village and yet seems to believe the UK is under threat of invasion from Muslim people. I honestly am starting to avoid her .

I've got nothing against the flag, the local church and working mens club have both always had a st georges flag flying and no-one gave a shit.

What I do object to is the really badly painted crosses on roundabouts and flags on lampposts. They've never been there before and have been done for one reason and one reason only. Anyone claiming otherwise is either stupid, racist or both.

It's a shame but the reality is that the flag has become a symbol of hate. If you don't like that then I suggest you take it up with the likes of Tommy Robinson who have turned it into that.

I don't really get being proud of being British or whatever (being born somewhere isn't an achievement) but if you feel like that then maybe do something to improve it. Badly painting a cross on a roundabout won't do that

I'd rather have the flags of our union flying all around than flags from other countries or hideous oppressive trans pride flags

I'm in Scotland too and the anti-immigrant people have started attaching Scottish Saltires to lampposts - trying to adopt the Saltire as the equivalent of the St. George's cross in England. There have been none painted on roundabouts, as far as I am aware. Council workers who have attempted to take the flags down in Falkirk and Aberdeen have been threatened.

Supporters of Scottish independence have used the Saltire as a symbol for many years in campaigning literature and on marches. It upsets me that racists are trying to hijack it for their own agenda.

Hold on, so displaying a flag is akin to being a Nazi? Perhaps you'd better let Starmer and Yvette Cooper know. They support the flags apparently.

You are the same people who support and help each other in the many threads on here about all the horrendous life problems we all go through everyday.

You could be swearing and screaming at someone you sent geniune good thoughts and hugs to a few days ago, don't be so enraged by a difference of opinion on flags.

I love to see the flags up, my next door neibours is completely against it, we are both good people and happily live next door to each other, chatting about anything and everything, just because we are online don't forget you are human.

In 2024 foreign nationals accounted for between 28% and 34% of convictions for “sexual assault on a female” across England and Wales.

The conviction rate for foreign nationals is 5.75 per 100,000 of the population and 1.77 per 100,000 for the British population - a conviction rate which is 224% higher. In other words, foreign nationals are convicted for sexual assault on a female at a rate 2.24 times higher than the British population.
Even if we adjust the overall populations of the British and foreign nationals just to include those of working age (16 - 64), foreign nationals have a rate which is 150% higher at 7.3 per 100k compared to 2.9 per 100k.

Do you though? You visit other countries and love seeing their flags?

Do you go France and see the french flag and feel all happy about it? In Spain? "Oooh look, fuck the Alhambra, look at that lovely Spanish flag?"

Mind you, some of the flag shaggers (that'll be a bingo tick for you faux naive folk) seem to love the Danish flag so much they painted it on roundabouts etc here. Now that's loving the flags of other nations.

From age 10 I lived on an almost totally white council estate in NW London - unusual considering we were a stone's throw from Ladbroke Grove. The vast majority of residents were supporters of the National Front and British Movement. The hatred and bile they spewed about EVERYONE who wasn't English - and ideally English for several generations - was truly grim. The majority of these people were poorly educated in low paying jobs. School was for idiots. That's if they worked, lots were petty criminals, loads of their clothes and gold jewelry fell off the back of lorries. Fine for them to be on benefits and rig the system though. I moved to the area from Scotland as my dad got the job to run the local community centre. They hated us, told us we'd be deported back to Scotland. Because it's never about the union, only England for the English. Lots of vandalism with swastikas and NF spray painted on the club doors and windows. Lots of violence. Lots of domestic violence... And the teens would come into the club and Zeig Heil in the fucking disco. In front of the caretakers who had actually fought Nazis in WW2. How can you be patriotic, love your country and yet be a fascist in front of people who actually fought fascists? That level of daily hatred rots your soul.

I could not get away from that place fast enough and moved out when I was 18. My parents a few years later. And then the bold racism of that time seemed to die down, go underground, people were more shameful in their prejudice. I remember laughing at an EDL march that went past my mates house in the early 2000's: it was five skinheads surrounded by police, getting the piss taken out of them by everyone. That felt good, felt like progress. How fucking stupid was I to think the racists were a dying breed?

This rise in blatant racism horrifies me. I have a blended family: my husband is half Indian, he was born here. Is he English enough for the "we're full, go home types?" Am I allowed to stay in England or is being Scottish still worthy of deportation? There are people openly shouting racist abuse on our streets, on our trains and buses, shamelessly in front of TV cameras. It's disgusting, shameful and makes our country look mean and small.

My neighbour opposite has a HUGE flagpole of the welsh flag no body ever complained why would they, people are making a stand as they have had enough being dictated to since lockdown, this is my country and i am proud to be english, people are sick of being told you cant do this as it offends others , i dont think its about racism i think people have had enough, if you go to Wales its full of welsh flags and dragons and i can assure you no one in Wales is taking their flags or dragons down, im quite loving it as more and more flags go up, the peasants are revolting and about bloody time
