Rip the flags down! A call for action!

The sudden appearance of the English flag hung on lamp posts, railings etc has absolutely sickened me, and my dd.
I am proud to be British, but the misappropriation of the flag by thugs, intending to intimidate, is absolutely not acceptable in a diverse society.
So tonight myself and my adult dd ripped them down in our area, and tomorrow we will be going on a flag hunt, to rip down any more we find.
I would strongly urge those of you that feel the same way, to also remove them, as long as you feel safe and comfortable to do it.

Who do you think you are touching and damaging someone else's property

Ballykeelover · 25/08/2025 19:04

Op go to Northern Ireland and go up the Falls and down the Shankill pulling down flags of every flavour as you go. That should keep you busy for a while.

How on earth do you know their ethnicity?

Obviously because they state that in their posts!

I actually think that if every Indian takeaway, jerk chicken shop, polish supermarket, mosque, Arab grocer and the trendy coffee shop in my local high road displayed the England flag this week, and if this was replicated across the country, it would be a better response.

Everyone doesn't have to fly the flag, or even like the flag, for it still be ok for those who do want to fly it to do so.
I wish we would be as tolerant of the English flag as we are of the Scottish or Welsh flags.

You DO know this is an anonymous forum?
And you are aware how uncomfortable the sudden proliferation of the flag appearing everywhere has made people of colour feel?
Or do you just not care?

I am a “people of colour” and I am English.
My country flag is the St George’s flag. Are you saying the English flag is only for white people? In case I would suggest you are the racist divisive person.

Put up in a public place?
With the intent to intimidate?
I have no problem whatsoever.

Will the people who love the flags and the people who hate the flags just rent a room and play out their flag dramas in private? Leave the rest of us normies out of their symbiotic struggle.

Iheartmysmart · 25/08/2025 19:07

I can’t really be arsed if I’m honest. Been out all day, haven’t long got home and have just poured myself a glass of wine. Plus the only ones I’ve seen near me are painted on a zebra crossing and that’ll be a fucker to get off. I’ve only got some Dulux Knotted Twine paint to go over them with which will be very confusing for pedestrians and motorists.

FirstNationsEnglish · 25/08/2025 19:08

@Ilovemychocolate ... has made people of colour feel ...

You do know that there are "people of colour" who are English and who are proud of their nation's flag?

LlamaNoDrama · 25/08/2025 19:08

Wouldn't this be theft and potentially criminal damage?

RedNine · 25/08/2025 19:08

Green bin is for garden waste, surely?

FiveCustardTarts · 25/08/2025 19:08

You missed a trick there. You should have taken them down carefully and sold them back to the people putting them up. Rinse and repeat.

You behaved appallingly, and you know it.

Shameful.

ShesTheAlbatross · 25/08/2025 19:09

I don’t see why it would be made up - people put them up, others take them down. It’s hardly beyond belief.

ViolaPlains · 25/08/2025 19:09

All these ridiculous threads on here are making me want to hang a flag out of every window and one on each garden gate post.

Pricelessadvice · 25/08/2025 19:10

Well aren’t you a hero? 🙄

Have you not seen or heard anything about the recent proliferation of the flag being hung by right wing thugs to denote that “this country is ours” and protest against immigration?
Can you not see the way this is going?

Did she? If they were on lampposts on the street it’s not “appalling” to take them down.

If they were in people’s gardens then I’d agree she shouldn’t have done it.

Ilovemychocolate · 25/08/2025 20:24

Just to clarify…I am not looking for validation from complete strangers on the internet.
It was my dd, who is 20, that was insistent we take them down.
I am very proud to be British, but I refuse to let our flag to be used as a method to intimidate people.
SURELY you must all realise there is a concerted effort to try and do this, using our flag?

I love the flag when used in a positive and celebratory way, but lately it’s use by racists who want to intimidate - horrible

As I said earlier, I would never trespass to remove a flag.
But public areas? Yes I will, because of the messaging it’s trying to convey.

Doubt it. If I leave my personal property hanging off the side of a bridge, it’s hardly theft if someone moves it.

FOJN · 25/08/2025 20:30

Sickened by our national flag? Please get a grip. Are there any other flags which provoke such an OTT reaction?
