Rip the flags down! A call for action!

The sudden appearance of the English flag hung on lamp posts, railings etc has absolutely sickened me, and my dd.
I am proud to be British, but the misappropriation of the flag by thugs, intending to intimidate, is absolutely not acceptable in a diverse society.
So tonight myself and my adult dd ripped them down in our area, and tomorrow we will be going on a flag hunt, to rip down any more we find.
I would strongly urge those of you that feel the same way, to also remove them, as long as you feel safe and comfortable to do it.

I assumed that's what it was supposed to be. If it was it was quite rightly removed. If you're going to find it has such an effect on you you always had the option not to click on it.

You are so sad.

Has the OP disappeared?

MumOfManyAliases · 29/08/2025 09:11

Videos of people ripping down the flag of England, gleefully stamping on it before dumping it in the bin, is 1. A total insult to the millions of people who have died for that flag and the freedoms we enjoy and 2. Is hardly going to garner any support. In fact, I think you will find it has the opposite effect.

She probably feels like she’s topped up her virtue enough for now and is off thinking of more petty ideas.

Yes, or is feeling a trifle embarrassed at the new-found fame (read notoriety).

I found it amusing, mainly because when I pictured the OP and her daughter out on their flag removing crusade, that was exactly how I imagined it would look

Ilovemychocolate · 25/08/2025 21:11

I am not looking for validation.
Im not seeking it, I couldn’t care less if people give it.
Im asking for people , if they also see the flag where it wouldn’t normally be, to remove it.
Only if they are safe to do so.
Once again, this is a concerted effort by far right groups to make people not originally from this county to feel unwelcome.
Is this really what we as a country want?

Somone spray painted "stop the boats" on the sign of my village. The next day Somone had painted over that. Don't worry loads of people are fighting back against it. Also someone spray painted "gammon" on a flag hung from a motorway bridge near Maidstone

Same here.

And, ahem, it became apparent why only the low-hanging flags were targeted.
Pot/kettle, because I am in a similar boat…

I see your point, stamping on it is horrible.
Although how is painting it all over roundabouts and crossings any better for people to go walking and driving all over it? Also horrible.
Edit - question for everyone in support of the roundabout and crossing paintings, not necessarily just aimed at you.

Stamping on it is not just horrible, it’s unbearably performative. That’s what I always suspected this was, a performance.
I actually feel sorry for people who genuinely do feel offended by the flag and want to have a decent discussion about it because the OP is making that ‘side’ look absolutely ridiculous. Like a caricature of a social justice warrior.

I wonder if she’d be brave enough to do that in west Belfast.

To be fair, the England flag wouldn’t last long up a lamppost in west Belfast.

Nah, the England flag wouldn’t - but the Shankhill is covered with Union Flags and murals of King Charles

What about driving and walking all over it as well though? That's just as horrible.

I’m not sure exactly what scenario you’re referring to but if someone paints a St George on the ground where it’s going to get driven or walked over as a matter of course, that’s not a performative act like going out of your way to rip it down from a lamp post, jumping up and down on it and throwing it in the bin

cardibach · 29/08/2025 16:08

WhereIsMyJumper · 28/08/2025 20:32

But even if that is a fact, let’s say that it is, it doesn’t necessarily follow that everyone hanging a flag is a far right racist, does it?

I didn't say it did.
This is what I said: the people who started it are definitely racist and it’s definitely with racist intent. If those jumping on the bandwagon haven’t looked into why they are suddenly doing it, then it doesn’t say a lot about their intelligence or general awareness even if they aren’t actually racist themselves

I did add an opinion that most probably were though. Mainly because (perhaps foolishly) I don’t assume everyone I’d brainless and I’m assuming they know why the flag flying started. Perhaps they are all oblivious though.

@Ilovemychocolate ”I refuse to let our flag to be used as a method to intimidate people“

How about other flags? Do you feel the same way about them? Or would you say that when it’s other flags, they don’t intimidate people?

Yes, this has been going on for two years in a much more 'intimidating' context and that's been actively defended by the same people who advocate tearing down these flags

yellowspanner · 29/08/2025 16:29

You do not know why the flags were put up. I love them. Leave them alone

Yes, maybe because of the video that was posted? Or because she wasn’t expecting the responses she got from non white people who weren’t grateful to her, but pointed out that her actions could impact on them?

My god is OP the grown woman in a Mickey mouse t-shirt stamping on the England flag like a toddler having a tantrum? Oh dear, there was nothing dignified about that little display of petulance. Very funny to see an adult humiliate themselves so publicly because they're high on self righteousness.
