How early to mow the grass?

What time is acceptable to start mowing the lawn? Mine desperately needs to be done and was thinking 8am will be fine?

I would personally say 9am. It’s the summer holidays. You’ll wake half the street!

LlynTegid · 23/08/2025 07:08

Bit early I think on a Saturday, maybe leave until 10? The grass won't mind.

Ifailed · 23/08/2025 07:08

8 seems fine to me.

No, it is not.

Ohlifelife · 23/08/2025 07:18

I would probably start around 9 a.m but I don't think 8 a.m. is anti social.

Tbh I know these days other people round where I live don't really bother much about whether they are disturbing others or not and just do what is convenient for them.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 23/08/2025 07:19

I would leave to 10am on a Saturday.

itsgettingweird · 23/08/2025 07:21

8am would be fine for me.

I always think it depends on the area, proximity to neighbours and type of neighbours.

Of your neighbours are all usually up at 7am then 8 is fine.

If they are later risers it’s respectful to leave it until 9am or later.

ThankYouNigel · 23/08/2025 07:21

Depends a bit if it’s a weekday or weekend, school holidays or not.

My DH mows our lawns at the weekend, and even though we are up from
6.30am he won’t do them until after 10am as he’s really considerate of our neighbours who don’t have young children or any reason to be up as early as us.

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 23/08/2025 07:22

I would say after 9.

Thingyfanding · 23/08/2025 07:23

Don’t be a Tosser. Wait until 9 at least.

incognitomouse · 23/08/2025 07:25

9am on a Saturday, 10am on a Sunday.

8am is very early on a weekend - just because you are up doesn't mean your neighbours aren't wanting a bit of a weekend lie-in.

You've got all day, calm down.

MirandaWest · 23/08/2025 07:25

At least 9 if not 10

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/08/2025 07:26

Bloke across the road is out now trimming his hedge with the radio going.

8am is fine on a Saturday, people are having supermarket deliveries at 7am. I’ll start at 9am on a Sunday.

chatgptsbestmate · 23/08/2025 07:27

<misses point> won't the grass be wet/dewy? I always wait til the afternoon so it's dried off. Am I an idiot? 🤪

Meadowfinch · 23/08/2025 07:27

I don't know anyone who is still asleep at 8am, except my teen, and he could sleep through a bomb going off so makes no difference.

My ex occasionally worked nights and preferred people to mow early so he would not be disturbed once he was deep asleep.

8am is fine.

KPPlumbing · 23/08/2025 07:29

I think 9am. DH is from a family where it wouldn't even cross their minds to worry about waking half the street, so I'm always talking him down from using power tools or doing work to his car until a more acceptable time of day!

Tell your DH thanks from me; can we come and live next to you?
Our neighbour seems to think because he is up at 6.30 everyone else should be. He is constantly banging around in his garage.

Oh no, sorry to hear you’re getting disturbed so early. Noise really early or late at night is tough.

Badgerandfox227 · 23/08/2025 07:33

9am Saturday and 10am Sunday would be the earliest I’d think a neighbour mowing was reasonable

tulippa · 23/08/2025 07:33

8am would fine on a weekday but I would leave it until at least 10am at the weekend.

dogsarethebestalways · 23/08/2025 07:39

I never do anything noisy like that until after 9am, even on a week day. 10am on Sunday.

onwardandupwards · 23/08/2025 07:46

My neighbour opposite has already done his now he is fixing his shed roof.

1apenny2apenny · 23/08/2025 07:46

8am is fine, it’s in line with building work regulations
