How early to mow the grass?

Nosleepforthismum · 23/08/2025 07:07

What time is acceptable to start mowing the lawn? Mine desperately needs to be done and was thinking 8am will be fine?

OP posts:
taxidriver · 23/08/2025 08:26

the grass will still be damp imo

FalseSpring · 23/08/2025 08:26

9am. Most mornings the grass would be to damp to do it any earlier even if you didn't have neighbours.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 23/08/2025 08:24

@SaltAirAndTheRust- to the sound of an inconsiderate fecker cutting the grass

What sort of lawnmowers are you using that are this noisy?!

EasySqueezy · 23/08/2025 08:28

Mumofsoontobe3 · 23/08/2025 07:19

I would leave to 10am on a Saturday.

Same.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 23/08/2025 08:30

They’re noisy, especially if you live cheek by jowl. Can’t believe anyone thinks 8am is reasonable on a weekend in the summer when people have their windows open.

Swiftie1878 · 23/08/2025 08:31

Wrong time to mow - will be damp.
Wait till the sun is dropping, late afternoon/evening. Then it will be dry, and the shorter grass won’t scorch in the sun.

Zanatdy · 23/08/2025 08:34

9am at earliest i’d say. I’m an early bird, but wouldn’t be mowing at 8am on a Saturday.

Loubelou71 · 23/08/2025 08:37

No earlier than 9...

Loubelou71 · 23/08/2025 08:37

Surely grass is still dewy too ..the later the better.

taxidriver · 23/08/2025 08:38

i normally mow the lawn after i get the washing in, i get the washing in specifically so can mow the lawn, so late afternoon

pizzaHeart · 23/08/2025 08:38

ItsOnlyHobnobs · 23/08/2025 07:22

I would say after 9.

This^

Sharptonguedwoman · 23/08/2025 08:38

Not before 9. Bit antisocial otherwise.

I don't know anyone who is still asleep at 8am, except my teen, and he could sleep through a bomb going off so makes no difference.

My ex occasionally worked nights and preferred people to mow early so he would not be disturbed once he was deep asleep.

8am is fine.

Edited

You mustn’t know a lot of people.

I woke up naturally at 0810 this morning, I wouldn’t have been happy if a lawnmower woke me up before then. OP - 0900 is acceptable.

Notmyreality · 23/08/2025 08:41

8 is totally fine.

missrabbit1990 · 23/08/2025 08:41

9am I think.

MrsMoastyToasty · 23/08/2025 08:43

I'm surprised that the grass needs mowing. Ours is half dead. Even the school behind us haven't had their contractors in to mowing because it's half dead.

landlordhell · 23/08/2025 08:45

9am

landlordhell · 23/08/2025 08:46

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 23/08/2025 08:02

My neighbour cuts theirs about 7.30am every Saturday morning.

They don't work and have all the time during the week to cut it.

Would love a lazy morning after working long hours all week, but nope!

I'm not bitter, much!

Arseholes!

Haven’t cut ours for a month.

crumblingschools · 23/08/2025 08:47

@SaltAirAndTheRust are you an inconsiderate neighbour?

taxidriver · 23/08/2025 08:48

i cut mine last weekend, it was very long,
it is lush and green <<smug>>

legsekeven · 23/08/2025 08:49

incognitomouse · 23/08/2025 07:25

9am on a Saturday, 10am on a Sunday.

8am is very early on a weekend - just because you are up doesn't mean your neighbours aren't wanting a bit of a weekend lie-in.

You've got all day, calm down.

Not even just a lie in. Just a peaceful start to the day. 9am is early enough

chatgptsbestmate · 23/08/2025 07:27

<misses point> won't the grass be wet/dewy? I always wait til the afternoon so it's dried off. Am I an idiot? 🤪

Thought the same, never mow early morning as can damage grass / leave it prone to disease if still damp.

late morning, early afternoon best (so it has time to mend before nighttime and more dampness)

EmeraldShamrock000 · 23/08/2025 08:53

Saturday morning, 8.30/9pm.
Let the neighbours have a decent sleep in.

RitaRetro · 23/08/2025 08:58

One of my neighbours has been strimming since 8.15am. I didn't sleep last night from a chronic pain condition and was hoping to go back and lay down. 🥺
