How early to mow the grass?

What time is acceptable to start mowing the lawn? Mine desperately needs to be done and was thinking 8am will be fine?

9am on a Saturday seems to be the earliest our road would start anything noisy . I’m also jealous you have grass growing long enough to cut , all mine looks like fields of dry straw since we haven’t had enough rain for weeks!

BabyDoge · 23/08/2025 07:51

On a weekend I don't let the kids out until 9am, so I'd say that applies to lawnmowers too.

breakfastdinnerandtea · 23/08/2025 07:51

At the very very earliest, 9.30am on a weekend.
I don’t know when my neighbours are awake, as I’d imagine most people don’t go around telling everyone what time they wake up, so I’d probably wait until 10am myself.

jeaux90 · 23/08/2025 07:52

Don’t be an asshole, wait until 10.

No, it is not.

I don’t mind if my neighbours mow the lawn at 8.

I wait until 9am to do anything noisy or allow the kids in the garden. All the houses except one around us have teens, adult couples or elderly. Those without kids tend to be quite respectful and don't make much noise after 9pm outside. We live in a village though so not so much on top of each other as in urban areas.

I mean on bonfire night a Facebook thread starts of who is letting what off when so people can calm their animals or whatever.

I wouldn't mind either because I'll be well awake at that time. However I wouldn't do anything like that till after 9am. Some people are lucky enough to be able to sleep in, and it's just more considerate for people running on a different body clock to me.

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 23/08/2025 08:02

My neighbour cuts theirs about 7.30am every Saturday morning.

They don't work and have all the time during the week to cut it.

Would love a lazy morning after working long hours all week, but nope!

I'm not bitter, much!

Purpleturtle45 · 23/08/2025 08:03

10am

They’re inconsiderate twats!

I don't know anyone who is still asleep at 8am, except my teen, and he could sleep through a bomb going off so makes no difference.

My ex occasionally worked nights and preferred people to mow early so he would not be disturbed once he was deep asleep.

8am is fine.

Edited

Before I had DD at 38 I would regularly be asleep at 8am on a weekend.

SaltAirAndTheRust · 23/08/2025 08:11

anything after 7:30 is fair game I say. If you need a totally silent sleeping environment, wear earplugs!

You need to ask them not to.

Dutchhouse14 · 23/08/2025 08:11

9am is perfectly acceptable, 8am on a Saturday is borderline, maybe split the difference and go 8. 30 if you really need to get on and do it early, but if you can wait and do a quieter task do it later.
How close are you to your neighbours and are they early risers?
Our neighbours are early risers(I'm not) and every Sunday Im woken by their lawn mower at 8am,Id rather they left it a bit later on a Sunday tbh.

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/08/2025 08:12

Ddakji · 23/08/2025 08:11

You need to ask them not to.

And then they say no.

taxidriver · 23/08/2025 08:12

i did it at 8 once
but i do think 8 is too early

CharlotteBakewell · 23/08/2025 08:14

From 9:30am on a Saturday, 10am on a Sunday is acceptable imo.

I’ve only had one neighbour once start mowing at 7:15am. I couldn’t quite believe what I was hearing. I nearly went over to him to say if you’re so fucking keen you can do mine next!

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 23/08/2025 08:14

We leave it till 10. No one can complain at that.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 23/08/2025 08:15

8am is much too early, I’d be seriously pissed off. Lots of people who work full time will be wanting a lie in

And you can still have your lie in!

ClothesMyArmHurts · 23/08/2025 08:22

My busy brother, mowed his lawn at 7.30AM before setting off for work.

Calls to the local council complaining about the imposition, resulted in a letter to him, warning him to stop.

My neighbour often has workmen at her house, pressure washing, installing something, redoing something electric etc, the list is endless…so often, and quite early on a morning too, and it’s a pain.

EnglishRain · 23/08/2025 08:23

I think 9am. 10am Sunday. I am an early bird and usually up at 6!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 23/08/2025 08:24

@SaltAirAndTheRust- to the sound of an inconsiderate fecker cutting the grass

Allthings · 23/08/2025 08:25

No one around here would do it before 10am on a weekend.

It’s currently damp due to dew, so not worth cutting until it dries out a bit.
