How early to mow the grass?

What time is acceptable to start mowing the lawn? Mine desperately needs to be done and was thinking 8am will be fine?

8am Monday to Friday but maybe 10am on weekends.

I wouldn’t even let my kids play out until 9

Exactly.
All through lockdown I wouldn't let my toddler outside before 9am.
Now my neighbours have a toddler and think its fine to let him outside hanging pots and screaming at 7am mon- Sunday. Not happy with that whatsoever. Pure selfishness.

teraculum29 · 23/08/2025 18:11

My partner is a gardener, his earliest start is 9:30, 10:00 on Sundays

Judecb · 23/08/2025 18:11

8 am on a Bank Holiday weekend? Absolutely no way! I'd be livid if my neighbours were this selfish! 10 o'clock +

Hillarious · 23/08/2025 18:21

8.00 am is fine. You need to be awake to enjoy a lie in!

GiveDogBone · 23/08/2025 18:26

I mean you can do it at 8 am there’s no law against it, but… why do you need to do it at 8am, can’t you wait until later? I a.ways cut mine in the evening, 7/8pm.

Tesco and ASDA around here aren’t quiet by any means.

what do they do thats so loud that a normal person bringing their own shopping in from their car doesn't do? and even if it is loud, it doesnt last as long as mowing a lawn, does it?

Airspice · 23/08/2025 19:07

10am for sure at a weekend, any earlier than that for making that sort of noise and you’re anti social. I’m so aware of others and how what I do affects them, it baffles me how some people just aren’t and are totally oblivious to others.

Petrolitis · 23/08/2025 19:11

8am is fine on a Saturday. 10am on a Sunday.

Plenty of people work Saturdays these days, those that don't can't expect them to be sacrosanct just because they happen to be off.

Dawnb19 · 23/08/2025 19:44

At least 9 during the week and 10 at a weekend. Not everyone is morning people.

pinkbackground · 23/08/2025 19:46

I’m a gardener and start at 8am during the week. Typically I wait until 9am on a weekend unless it’s a very isolated garden with no neighbours.

Whatinthedoopla · 23/08/2025 20:30

I'm an early bird so wouldn't mind, but my partner who likes a lie in would be annoyed if it's before 7am

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 23/08/2025 20:32

9am

I don't know anyone who is still asleep at 8am, except my teen, and he could sleep through a bomb going off so makes no difference.

My ex occasionally worked nights and preferred people to mow early so he would not be disturbed once he was deep asleep.

8am is fine.

Edited

We slept in til 8.30am, after 3 years of interrupted sleep and generally up at 6.30am, I would not be happy if someone started mowing at 8am.

8 am is far too early at weekends, a bit of consideration for your neighbours would be appropriate if they don't have young children they may want a lay in.

Chinsupmeloves · 23/08/2025 22:45

9am I reckon

mondaytosunday · 23/08/2025 23:56

8am weekdays 9am Saturday 10am Sunday

BlueFlowers5 · 24/08/2025 00:10

9 am.

SparklingRivers · 24/08/2025 00:12

9am at the earliest, ideally 10am. This far into the summer holidays you're likely to have some neighbours in need of a lie in at the weekend!

Oldwmn · 24/08/2025 11:22

My son cuts my grass. He works nights so get to me about 7. He watches a bit of telly, ransacks the fridge then heads out with the mower at 8-8.30. I am usually awakened by the clatter of it being put away. No body has complained 🙂

I wouldn't take lack of actual complaints as proof nobody has been annoyed by it tbh.

They use heavy duty plastic trays with metal rods which can make quite a din. Most folk use reusable cloth bags if they shop themselves. Large van which can be diesel left with engine running, I don’t know of anyone who does their own shopping who hasn’t turned their engine off. I guess it depends on how big the lawn or family are as to how long the noise goes on for. Large family down the road, have a postage stamp of a lawn which is cut quicker than it takes for their food delivery. Their food deliveries are more frequent than the grass cuts as well.
