To be so fed up amd disheartened with all the xenophobia

1000 replies

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 21:56

Honestly, I’m just feeling worn out and heartbroken lately. It seems like racism and xenophobia are becoming more and more mainstream again, wrapped up in the same tired scare stories, whether it’s splashed across a tabloid or coming straight out of Farage’s mouth. Then you see stupid threads on here about civil war trying to stir up more hate.

Even my own brother has started sounding like Tommy Robinson. Ten years ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. It’s like people have completely forgotten the lies we were sold during Brexit—by Farage, Tice and their crowd—and yet they’re still lapping up everything they say. No critical thought, just blind anger pointed in the wrong direction.
I’m so fed up with the endless nonsense about small boats, “white minorities,” and all the rest of it. It’s all designed to divide us, stoke hate, and distract from the real culprits—rubbish politicians, broken policies, and the ultra-wealthy hoarding resources while the rest of us struggle.

But instead of looking upwards, it’s always “blame Johnny Foreigner.” It’s exhausting, and frankly terrifying how quickly people fall for it.

Is anyone else feeling this? How are you managing conversations when even close family seem to be buying into this stuff? I’m trying to stay compassionate, but it’s getting harder to bite my tongue.

Own the fact that you came here to claim xenophobia is okay

Xenophobia seems to be OK when it's aimed at the English. I've lost count of how many threads are started hating on them.

We have no culture apparently. The rest of the world does, and it should be lauded and celebrated. But we don’t. The only ones in the world not to.

I don't understand why there is this jump straight to the idea that people hate those from other countries, or of other races.

I quite enjoy other cultures, I've lived and worked in other countries myself, my dp is an immigrant and not the same race as me either. As is much of the extended family on that side, they've been here for 40 years or so. They are people who love their culture - which is itself a big mix of cultures.

And yet many of them are also worried about the state of immigration now and how it's affecting infrastructure, and jobs - many of them are working class people whose communities are being affected.

But no doubt according to the progressive spin, they are all racists and xenophobes too.

I agree. It’s a tragedy that instead of address issues head on with practical common sense, people with concerns with immigration are labelled as racist. What’s happened is it has taken the stigma/heat out the accusation as people laugh and think, “wait I’m not racist in the slightest, but I’m being called racist? Well then “racist” becomes a meaningless thing thrown about to shut down debate. It’s like the boy who cried wolf.

And for people saying that immigration is a distraction to keep the working class fighting each other while the rich get richer…mass immigration keeps wages down and makes the rich richer at the expense of the working class. Rishi Sunak wanted immigration to rise, to keep wages down and keep inflation steady. Mass immigration and class struggle are linked.

I personally live in an affluent area insulated from the impact of a lot of this stuff, and I think a lot of people who dismiss those who are concerned as racists/thugs/bigots are actually just very privileged and unable to empathise with people from poor towns who have seen the structure of their community change massively, combined with austerity and policies like not removing graffiti swiftly - it’s all built up to make them feel that their towns aren’t what they once were.

Labour need to get their act together, it shouldn’t be only “alt-right” parties like Reform who own the rhetoric around this issue - left wing parties who represent the working class should be the most nimble and solutions minded about safeguarding communities and workers wages and women’s safety.

Haha me and my DH were watching Yellow stone on Netflix last night and in a scene at a rodeo they were riding a horse with the American flag flying and every one was singing the american anthem.

Both me and my Dh looked at each other and both said in sync that would not happen here it would be canceled and they would be locked up 😂

Sooner or later you'll realise that this line of attack doesn’t work any more. They can see the state of the towns and cities around them, and suddenly they're not bothered about being smeared by bad faith actors. They want the issue dealt with and no amount of teeth gnashing and snarling will make that sentiment go away. We have eyes and we can see whats going on around us.

Perfect example. The bullying into submission will only work on those, who are weak.

smallglassbottle · 04/08/2025 23:37

I think when a country is well run and the economy is doing well it's easier to cope with immigration. Unfortunately things are going badly wrong for the UK now and the population are stressed and miserable and this is why there's a backlash against more stress and competition for resources. The rape gangs don't help either, or the sexual assaults. Perhaps the migrants might be more welcome if they were mainly women and children, but the resources question would still apply.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 04/08/2025 23:38

It's awful. I don't have to deal with it in my own family, thankfully, but it has become so normalised. It's deeply depressing.

Do you want to borrow @awkwardasfuck `s label maker. I warn you though the glue is shit and the "fascism" & "racism" labels are nearly empty.

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 23:41

Screamingabdabz · 04/08/2025 23:14

What is disheartening and depressing is to live in areas where the policies of unfettered mass immigration prove to be problematic and people are called bigots and racists for even speaking about it. Where will you allow people to talk about their frustrations and their concerns op?

You think you’re clever, and your bleeding heart is a sign of your moral superiority, but you fail to see that this stifling of people’s anxieties is exactly what sends them into the arms of Farage et al.

These people don’t just wake up and decide to irrationally hate immigrants. They look at their poor quality of life and question why. Not being listened to and told to stfu is a massive lever for stoking the fires of disunity. So whilst you’re smugly blaming the right wing parties, and the gutter press, and the social media extremists, take a long hard look at your own culpability in all of that.

Poor quality of life is the fault of:

Poor policy decisions by multiple Governments
Brexit
The war in Ukraine and it's effect on prices
Lack of investment in infrastructure
Inflation
Etc

Yet we put 95% of the blame and focus on immigrants - how is that right?

Where did they state 95% of the blame - they never. You have plucked out that figure and I bet do not live even close to an area like this to understand peoples feelings .

'Progressives' stifle debate, when it doesn't suit their purpose. The tactics are well rehearsed.
