To be so fed up amd disheartened with all the xenophobia

1000 replies

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 21:56

Honestly, I’m just feeling worn out and heartbroken lately. It seems like racism and xenophobia are becoming more and more mainstream again, wrapped up in the same tired scare stories, whether it’s splashed across a tabloid or coming straight out of Farage’s mouth. Then you see stupid threads on here about civil war trying to stir up more hate.

Even my own brother has started sounding like Tommy Robinson. Ten years ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. It’s like people have completely forgotten the lies we were sold during Brexit—by Farage, Tice and their crowd—and yet they’re still lapping up everything they say. No critical thought, just blind anger pointed in the wrong direction.
I’m so fed up with the endless nonsense about small boats, “white minorities,” and all the rest of it. It’s all designed to divide us, stoke hate, and distract from the real culprits—rubbish politicians, broken policies, and the ultra-wealthy hoarding resources while the rest of us struggle.

But instead of looking upwards, it’s always “blame Johnny Foreigner.” It’s exhausting, and frankly terrifying how quickly people fall for it.

Is anyone else feeling this? How are you managing conversations when even close family seem to be buying into this stuff? I’m trying to stay compassionate, but it’s getting harder to bite my tongue.

Someone else put it far better than I can.

Gammon is a racist slur, we are told. Let me put this gently: affluent white men with reactionary opinions are not a race. White people mocking other white people over their skin colour is not racism.

It is a term about political views and how they are expressed.

Reactionary affluent white men are not being harassed by police officers, disproportionately driven into poverty and precarious work, systematically underrepresented in political and public life, or threatened with deportation. “Gammon” is punching up in a way that, say, “chavs” is punching down. That rightwingers are now pushing the use of the word “gammon” as racism is age-old example of how the privileged crave a sense of persecution, that they can target genuinely oppressed minorities while claiming they are the real victims.

The same Owen Jones who wants men in women’s prisons and who has never once mentioned the victims of the grooming gangs but talks endlessly about how racist everyone is. He’s incredibly ideological, and absolutely nobody to look up to.

😂😂😂😂 kinda sounds like a veiled threat? Are you going to track me down are you?

I have no intention of ‘tracking you down’. We are both on an open forum, you understand?

What an odd thing to say.

So you admit that changes to welfare have been passed? That doesn't quite tally with your former assertion.

I think you need to be more aware of the changes to the bill for this to mean much.

I don’t know how to break this to you but non white people aren’t automatically immigrants. The majority are British. So not part of what we are discussing.

Alright then, majority immigrant then. And in the areas I've been in, majority non-white. I'll change it. My point was Farage and Tommeh would have a headfit in them.

Dangermoo · 05/08/2025 09:48

VaseofViolets · 05/08/2025 09:44

What a mature, intelligent response. Will certainly make people take you and your opinions seriously.

Now I've stopped laughing at that desperate attempt, to say gammon isn't racist. People are born white, as they are born black. Coconut is also a racist term, however, it's quite happily used by, ummm let me think- oh yes, a teacher at a Pro Palestine rally. Give me a serious post and I will give it a serious answer.

On this occasion he’s right. By the way, Reform’s new prison advisor, Vanessa Frake, thinks trans women should be housed in women’s prisons.

Perhaps educate yourself, use critical thinking and stop swallowing every bit of dog-whistle politics you hear. There are plenty of criminals who are native born too.

And why has net migration gone up so much?? Because Brexit took away freedom of movement from British citizens so a lot less of us cant move abroad now and that makes numbers higher

Out of interest, where do you live?

Anywhere near any of the 'problem' spots?

so Tommy Robinson and his followers would be absolutely fine with the kids and families the poster is talking about here? Majority Muslim, signs in different languages, time taken off for Eid? Go have a look at their Twitter posts and the tell me that it’s only a specific type of non-white person they have an issue with.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 05/08/2025 09:49

I'm 51 and live in central Scotland and I have never in my life heard a child calling another child a black c or to go back to your own country, that is until last week. Wtaf is happening in households up and down this country that children are saying these vile things.
Depressing

Communism and socialism are not the same, as I’m sure you well know.

Indeed I do. The Soviet Union and the Communist Party consistently referred to themselves as a socialist state, believing they were building the necessary conditions for a communist society.

Hahahahahahaahaha 😂😅😂

Was quietly reading drinking my morning coffee until i saw you quote "OWEN" Bloody "JONES" Bwahahahaha.

You owe me a new keyboard.

I see the left-wing label makers are out in force again. Let me guess any one who does not agree has been presented with a "Racist","Fascist", ect. badge.

Oh look another liberal left wing break down thread 😭

Get a grip, people no longer are bowing to the woke tidal wave that drowned out common sense and pride years ago.

Sounds like it's you who's the one who needs to get a grip if the only thing you can think of to say is "woke tidal wave" - which is where people switch off as it sounds like all you can do is parrot phrases sheep like that you've heard others say.

@MyNameIsX Not really, i told you twice I didn’t care and twice you said ‘you won’t be doing that too frequently’ That’s an odd thing to repeat when you’ve said it once? Asking if you were going to track me down was said sarcastically, although I appreciate you can’t tell on here 😂

Nanny0gg · 05/08/2025 09:51

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 22:13

I think social media caused a lot of it tbh. Back in the day these views were frowned on, social media has turned them into click bait and ways for right wing loons to get followers so it spreads.

I'm also sure there are organisations out there putting hateful content out en masses to manipulate the population and cause chaos so people think parties like Reform are the only option

If you call people 'right wing loons' and other derogatory terms they aren't going to be wooed to your way of thinking

Here we go again. Anyone who disagrees with you is a thick, racist bigot.

It’s always been the same on mumsnet and it created an echo chamber. Shout anyone down and deride them as a racist lacking critical thinking. Looks like the bubble has burst finally.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 05/08/2025 09:53

Native brits committing crimes is our problem though. Hordes of foreign men coming and committing crimes really should be, yet governments put them up in hotels rather than turning the boats around / deporting them (leaving echr if necessary)

Nothing would ever change the abhorrent views these people hold, they’re way too entrenched and reinforced by Farage and his ilk.

I agree. At one time, the pile on would make posters stay away- most notably around the ubiquitous Tory bashing threads. I've seen quite a fightback on MN lately.

People just reel out words, for a while dog whistle was the insult de jour. I don’t think it’s working as well anymore.
