To be so fed up amd disheartened with all the xenophobia

1000 replies

Nohqters · 04/08/2025 21:56

Honestly, I’m just feeling worn out and heartbroken lately. It seems like racism and xenophobia are becoming more and more mainstream again, wrapped up in the same tired scare stories, whether it’s splashed across a tabloid or coming straight out of Farage’s mouth. Then you see stupid threads on here about civil war trying to stir up more hate.

Even my own brother has started sounding like Tommy Robinson. Ten years ago, that would’ve been unthinkable. It’s like people have completely forgotten the lies we were sold during Brexit—by Farage, Tice and their crowd—and yet they’re still lapping up everything they say. No critical thought, just blind anger pointed in the wrong direction.
I’m so fed up with the endless nonsense about small boats, “white minorities,” and all the rest of it. It’s all designed to divide us, stoke hate, and distract from the real culprits—rubbish politicians, broken policies, and the ultra-wealthy hoarding resources while the rest of us struggle.

But instead of looking upwards, it’s always “blame Johnny Foreigner.” It’s exhausting, and frankly terrifying how quickly people fall for it.

Is anyone else feeling this? How are you managing conversations when even close family seem to be buying into this stuff? I’m trying to stay compassionate, but it’s getting harder to bite my tongue.

Agree. Yet some hard of thinking people can’t grasp that we have enough British born delinquents here, so why would we want to invite and accept delinquents from other countries when we don’t have to? Anyone found to have a history of crime in the country they’re fleeing from, or commit a crime whilst here waiting for their claim to asylum to be looked at, should be fast tracked straight out of the UK.

You really think yourself something special don’t you? Bless your degenerate heart, you will learn

No, they value those ideas less. I think if someone has put work into developing thoughts, ideas and values, they're always going to wonder why other people haven't.
Also remember that various studies have found left wing voters to be more intelligent than their right wing counterparts. Human nature being as it is, more intelligent people are unlikely to respect less intelligent views. Quite interesting really.

@NellitheNelephant

I’ve seen quite a few broadsheets quoting the figure that 12% of the prison population in the U.K. are foreign nationals. I suppose that is a starting point. You can find some level of breakdown on the MoJ website - it’s not about skin colour or racism per se, but there are particular nationalities (amongst them, Romanian, hence it not being about skin colour) that are overrepresented.

Have you looked at them?

I have. Immigrants make up a lower percentage in prisons than in the general population.
Which obviously, as I'm sure youre aware, means that statistically immigrants are LESS likely to commit crime.

I think social media caused a lot of it tbh. Back in the day these views were frowned on, social media has turned them into click bait and ways for right wing loons to get followers so it spreads.

I'm also sure there are organisations out there putting hateful content out en masses to manipulate the population and cause chaos so people think parties like Reform are the only option

You see, I think it’s 100% social media. But not that social media has caused the increase, just that social media has made the sentiment more visible.

I remember being blown away by the Brexit result. I was as blind as David Cameron. I genuinely had no idea that there were so many bitter, resentful, racist people in this country. I lived in my little multicultural London bubble.

I don’t think that people’s feelings have changed, just that we can see it more now. But it has been bubbling away for a long long time.

Ignoring or talking down to people could mean in 4 years they get exactly what they don’t want, be careful what you wish for etc , these people are my way or the highway , maybe if they listen they would understand or explain in a way to help change peoples views. Who said I'm liberal/ left-wing / woke? I just don't worship Farage like you. I don't subscribe to any political party or ideology so don't came at me with that

We're getting to the point that anyone who thinks that machine-gunning small boats in the English Channel might be a tad excessive is "woke". There's a new right-wing nut-job party called Advance UK that claims to have 22,000 paid-up members — their principal selling point is that Farage is soft on immigrants. 🤪

I find this one strange as most of people who came from eu countries were white so xenophobic but racist. You could argue why should someone from europe be able to come here and work freely whilst in eu and nit someone from africa or asia ? Surely that is more racist . The fact you think people only voted brexit because they were all racist ( you also think all those who voted Brexit were white ? )

No, it's not ok for British people to move to Spain, stick with their own and not learn Spanish. You don't know what you're talking about.

My parents moved to Spain 40 years ago.
They had no work but immediately had to start paying into the medical insurance system.
My dad tried to taxi using his own car and a bunch of Spanish taxi drivers beat him up.

By law, Spanish employers had to offer a job to three different Spaniards before being allowed to offer it to a foreigner.
My parents got by by scrubbing floors and helping other English people.

They and their friends didn't build their own church.
None of them raped and assaulted kids.
They didn't have their own shops selling only English food.
They learnt Spanish, ate Spanish food and lived and made friends with the locals.

Spain wouldn't allow me and DH to get married there even though my parents live there. We had to go to the next country Gibralter, which was British.

Parents are happy and settled pensioners now but by hell, did they have it rough at first.
Not like the foreigners who come here and take OUR resources for free.
Yes OURS. I'm waiting for surgery and keep getting moved down the list.
Who do you think I should blame besides the useless politicians?

Do you think I should blame my own countrymen because it sounds as though that's exactly who you think I should blame?

Do you have proof that some "foreigner" is the reason that you are being moved down the list?

When I go to many of these areas I see people getting on with their lives (or trying to). I don't see what you are implying is on display. The news however is showing some terrible behaviour from people who are illegally hounding people who I assume cannot leave their accommodation while they are barricaded in. It is shameful.

Also, please tell us what you feel is going on. And don't forget the nuance that you feel you can bring to the narrative

It's not what I feel is going on, it's what IS going on.

I've lived in and around the areas currently in the news my whole life, so I've witnessed first-hand how multiculturalism simply has not worked. That's among migrants who are already here, so natives of these areas are understandably concerned about yet thousands more coming to the UK who have zero desire to assimilate and appear to want to turn the UK into the very countries they are fleeing.

I can give you a list of things I've witnessed personally but I'm much more interested to know how much of these areas you are actually 'seeing' with your own two eyes for you to have made the decision that there are no problems and anyone who says otherwise is just a bigot!?
How often do you visit?
Are you there for work?
Are you socialising/spending any length of time?
Or are you just passing through en route to catch the next train out to your leafy suburb?
Because obviously passing through somewhere and living it 24/7 are wildly different things. This is what those crying 'far right' and 'bigot' are seemingly failing to understand.

Wasn’t a woman working at a hotel housing asylum seekers murdered last year? By an asylum seeker? Do you just ignore the fact that the people coming on small boats are vast majority male?

A woman is killed about every 3 days in the UK. Not usually by an asylum seekers. Much more likely to be a man from her family or known to her. Strange you're so focused upon that one murder.

Sorry, they were separate points. I wasn’t saying that people who voted for Brexit were racist. I was listing the things that have surprised me over the years. Brexit and the rise in racism being 2 things, not one thing combined. Reading it back I can see how it looks as though I conflated the 2.

For so called intelligent people, the Janet and John argument that only racists voted for Brexit, is amusing. These are the folk, who actually stifle critical thinking in universities, while insisting they have it, in abundance. As one poster (inevitably) brought Johnson into the thread, nothing will ever beat him calling one of his many detractors, a lefty tosser. They can dish it out, but as soon as you fight back, out come all the labels. Lefty tosser was long overdue and returned the favour, magnificently. Reform have many of them to thank.

We are on the south coast and yes we do. We dont have young men its families and many children. I appreciate we might be an exception but I volunteer with them.

I'm quite sure it would be in the news if a hotel filled with only women and children was under seige and surrounded by Nazis, has there been any coverage?

Cambridge Uni used to publish the "bloopers" made by students during exams. Some were really shocking howlers. It was an internal publication that was never seen by the general public. So funny.

What? Why? We have thousands of old people in nursing homes with no staff to look ok after them, people come over from Africa to do this, what is your problem with this, are you willing to clean an old man? I disagree with Islam (current meaning) judge people on their actions
