I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I wonder if others feel the same. With everything going on, from the arrival of illegal migrants in small boats to a government that seems powerless, and with Farage gaining popularity because people are fed up, it feels like tension is rising across the country.

People are frustrated. You try to raise concerns and are instantly labelled a racist or bigot, even when your worries are about integration, safety, and national identity, not race. It feels like any honest conversation is being shut down.

There are parts of the UK where people who were born and raised here no longer feel at home. In some areas, if you are not part of the dominant local community, you can feel completely out of place or even unsafe walking alone at night. That is not right in your own country.

It is not just about people coming from Muslim-majority countries or those arriving illegally. There are also large numbers of Eastern Europeans, including Bulgarians, Romanians, and Russians. Many work hard and contribute, but there are also communities forming where people keep to themselves, speak no English, and make no effort to integrate. Some of these areas are experiencing rising antisocial behaviour, crime, and a breakdown of community life.

You can find videos online showing the state of some of these areas, with rubbish piling up, people ignoring the rules, and no sign of enforcement. It looks lawless, and it often is. But speaking about it honestly is considered of limits.

I live next to a Muslim family and they are wonderful people. Friendly, respectful, hardworking. So this is not about judging individuals. This is about a wider pattern where people are arriving, not integrating, and changing the fabric of our country in ways no one voted for.

We are a Christian country with our own traditions, values, and way of life. Why is it seen as wrong to want to preserve that? If we moved to Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, or Russia, we would be expected to adapt to their culture. So why is it unacceptable to ask the same here?

The anger and division in this country are growing. I do not want unrest or conflict, but I cannot ignore what feels like a serious shift. When ordinary people feel ignored for too long, things eventually boil over.

Is anyone else feeling this? Or are we just not allowed to talk about it anymore?

I think it’s a quote from the previous post.

And all you need is a quick google or statista check - According to the United Nations, in 2024, the United States, Germany, Saudi Arabia, France and the United Kingdom had the largest number of immigrants of any country.

I'm interested - is that arrivals for the year, or as a total of current population? Because that is a REALLY important distinction.

You’ve been sitting in a field of diverse lefties all weekend so I’ll go easy on you - Where did you read highest?

we also have a lot of people move abroad from here too.

i think you didn’t read anything I wrote and I think you can’t have a conversation or debate without it being from a defensive angle. In order to get the best outcome, one should be able to debate free of emotion or any shoulder chips, and to debate all sides of an argument even if those that aren’t held as a personal belief. Can you?

Immigrant isn’t the same as an asylum seeker. I am an immigrant although I am now a citizen. I have a PhD and earn a good salary and contribute to the economy.

This is a claim bandied about and it's been explained many times. In fact it was explained a few years back by Radio 4's More or Less programme which delves into statistical claims.

Muslims choose their first born boys names from a very short list, and most settle on Mohammed; the rest of the population choose from all the variations e.g. traditional British, modern names, African, Irish, Celtic, European, Chinese, celebrity names, and so on. So Mohammeds actually make up a small percentage of overall numbers of babies born, but the name is popular in the Moslem community.

I wondered if that was the explanation.
Fwiw, I don't believe we're about to become overun by Muslims!

Shameful comment. You'd never refer to Islam as the worshiping of a sky fairy. Typical mumsnet sycophant. Sneering at the heritage of the west while bowing and scraping to anything from the east.

Yup exactly this.

Thread after thread about ungrateful guests who stayed too long, didn't bring a good enough gift, ate too much, children did the wrong thing and its all block, go no contact, they aren't your friends, never let the MIL see your kids anymore.

Mothers protest at a hotel to let everyone know they won't tolerate their children being pestered, assaulted and raped, (because no-one has bothered to put these men on micro aggression training, that is just for white people), and we are all evil bigots from hell.

Double standards all the way.

People doing this now just sound like rape apologists.

They follow any mention of rape with white men do it too as if that's the end of it.

Women said this over and over about transsexual men in women's spaces, men will rape and assault you anyway.

Corrupted.

I don’t think comparing mass immigration to invasion is helping your cause really.

Interestingly only 40k Romans invaded, thats 2-3 weeks of average current net immigration.

I don't have a cause, so please dial down the condescension.
Said in a witheringly condescending tone:
You have overlooked the fact that the population of Britain in 43 AD was very much smaller so 40 thousand represented a far larger proportion of the population.
Secondly, people often reger to immigration as an invasion , so it's a psycholicsl reality for many, obviously.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/08/2025 23:07

WTF is a "Christian value" in this day and age?

Why the hell do we need Sky Fairy glitter to instil basic decency in people?

The bottom line is that within "Christianity" is the commandment "Thou shalt not kill", and yet millions of people have died at the hands of Christians for even disagreeing slightly with "Christian" dogma, or for other alleged transgressions such as owning cats and practising herbalism.

Away with your "Christian" values, because they're not in your context, they're a tool of fear and oppression.

@SerendipityJanewould you write a post with the same tone as this for Islam?

And the ex pat community is often disliked by the locals for those very reasons? Therefore its also what some people have a problem with here.
I personally can’t fathom why you would move to spain and not learn spanish etc, even when i just go on holiday , I at least learn , please , thank you , excuse me etc , some basic polite phrases.

I know, but it makes me think the Brits deserve it. Let Britain get taken over by a load of people who don't speak the language. I don't care. What is this shared culture we're supposed to have? Fish and chips? Putting up a Paddington picture when the queen dies? Drinking 14 pints at a football match? Fuck it. I hope they get taken over.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 05/08/2025 09:24

The reaction to Sarah Everards murder was hugely moving however there were factors specific to that case which I think contributed.

Myself a few other posters are not saying that just because our native men assault, rape and murder, that means we should not be concerned with cases of migrant men doing this. At all.

What I am trying to convey is that there have been a few recent incidents of horrific mob violence done in the name of “protect our girls” when actually those participating couldn’t give a shit about our girls. It’s all just an excuse to hurt “foreigners”.

2 in 5 people arrested for violent behaviour at last summer's riots had been previously reported to the police for domestic violence.

But that's the right sort of domestic violence, had too many beers/she asked for it/football team lost the match type, home grown and not imported, Christian country type of domestic violence ?

Quite

Reports of domestic violence spike when major sporting tournaments are on too.

All those lovely god fearing, Christian men singing It’s Coming Home after kicking six shades of shit out of their partner.

This has always happened. No one takes to the streets to protest it.

And yes I’m very well aware of all the women working tirelessly behind the scenes helping customs recover and trying to action real change in this area.

That’s fair. It was late and I was tired 😊
I misread your comment to be purely about asylum seekers.
I think there is a misconception that somehow we are taking more than our fair share of asylum seekers which isn’t true and I was indeed defensive about it.
Im of the opinion that immigration (general) is a good thing but maybe I’m biased because I wouldn’t be here if my grandparents didn’t come here. I’m white though…and sadly that make a huge difference to my experience versus black or brown people born here.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 05/08/2025 09:33

@AWitchCalledMeg I am an atheist, but I don't go around referring to people's beliefs as 'sky fairies'. It's rude (see also: using 'woke' as a pejorative, BTW). However, I would, could and have challenged my Muslim friends on their beliefs and nobody has murdered me yet. I have a wide and diverse circle of friends of all faiths and none, and we don't do sacred cows. We just disagree respectfully. The idea that all Muslims are inherently inclined to jihad and intolerance is one that is mostly held dear by the likes of OP and her adherents on this thread.

Extravirginolive · 05/08/2025 09:53

AWitchCalledMeg · 05/08/2025 09:45

This is astonishing.

It isn't really. This is unfortunately quite normal. The sneering contempt from the middle class is constant here especially on this subject.

It's who they are. They are no different to the public sector workers that called white working class girls sluts, and called them racist to protect the perpetrators.

They are the same people, indistinguishable.

They got on their knees for a criminal, don't forget.
