Do you believe there will be a civil war?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I wonder if others feel the same. With everything going on, from the arrival of illegal migrants in small boats to a government that seems powerless, and with Farage gaining popularity because people are fed up, it feels like tension is rising across the country.

People are frustrated. You try to raise concerns and are instantly labelled a racist or bigot, even when your worries are about integration, safety, and national identity, not race. It feels like any honest conversation is being shut down.

There are parts of the UK where people who were born and raised here no longer feel at home. In some areas, if you are not part of the dominant local community, you can feel completely out of place or even unsafe walking alone at night. That is not right in your own country.

It is not just about people coming from Muslim-majority countries or those arriving illegally. There are also large numbers of Eastern Europeans, including Bulgarians, Romanians, and Russians. Many work hard and contribute, but there are also communities forming where people keep to themselves, speak no English, and make no effort to integrate. Some of these areas are experiencing rising antisocial behaviour, crime, and a breakdown of community life.

You can find videos online showing the state of some of these areas, with rubbish piling up, people ignoring the rules, and no sign of enforcement. It looks lawless, and it often is. But speaking about it honestly is considered of limits.

I live next to a Muslim family and they are wonderful people. Friendly, respectful, hardworking. So this is not about judging individuals. This is about a wider pattern where people are arriving, not integrating, and changing the fabric of our country in ways no one voted for.

We are a Christian country with our own traditions, values, and way of life. Why is it seen as wrong to want to preserve that? If we moved to Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, or Russia, we would be expected to adapt to their culture. So why is it unacceptable to ask the same here?

The anger and division in this country are growing. I do not want unrest or conflict, but I cannot ignore what feels like a serious shift. When ordinary people feel ignored for too long, things eventually boil over.

Is anyone else feeling this? Or are we just not allowed to talk about it anymore?

What a shitty thing to say.

Have you ever seen a house for sale or rent where they highlight the short walking distance to several migrant hostels?

SilverpetalShine · 04/08/2025 23:12

I agree with you. Along with all the hate peddlers goes misogyny, discrimination against the poor. Education systems which rob poor children of aspirations and futures and then people wail when they express displeasure regarding those discriminations.

@SilverpetalShine

"The education systems which rob poor children"

Well, they rob some poor children.

Poor children from African and Asian families in the UK seem to do vastly better in education than the poor children from the sort of working class white families who throw rocks at asylum seekers.

Why do you think that is?

Antifa overwhelming the police lol

You do love a drama don’t you. Any drama as long as it’s the right drama

It's the Palestine group that are doing it.

You don’t think it would be damaging for a child to be the only kid of his/her race at school? I think you’re pushing the right on, virtuous shtick a bit too far here.

My child was the only Mexican in a class full of Irish kids and she had a whale of a time

I think that progressive liberals (of which I am one) make a mistake when they dismiss the concerns of everyday people and attempt to “other” them by using broad stroke brush labels of racism/propaganda/conspiracy.

A prime example is with trans rights, labelling feminists groups as “hateful bigots” instead of coming to the table to resolve practical concerns for safety for women.

It’s a way to try to control debate that doesn’t work in the long term and actually weakens protections for us all, and pushes people into the arms of parties like reform.

I think we dismiss protesters as thugs etc at our peril - they are a symptom of a much wider issue and we need to work together to find solutions rather than vilify people who are frustrated and feel that they aren’t being listened to so they have to resort to violence - which isn’t actually pointless or mindless but rather a sign that there is clearly a massive disconnect that needs to be resolved.

Edited

I agree about liberals ignoring voices with different opinions. But I think let's not start fear mongering about civil war. Unless we have and can show some evidence, or at the very least, define which groups are at the brink.
As an immigrant the hate on mumsnet the last two weeks has been astounding. So yes, I can see people rioting. I can see some burning our homes like they burned hotels exactly one year ago today, or more recently in Ballymena. But I don't see civil war. Yet. So may be the attack on us immigrants should be the primary concern for op because that is more likely to happen than a civil war.

Will you burn my home @exhaustedandwholly ? Will you threaten to kill me because am not born and bred here? Am not an English Christian person whose family home is listed in the doomsday book?

Asylum hostels house some of the poorest people in the country. Many of them are very depressed and lonely. Some of these hostels are grim inside - I know because I've been in one. Of course you're not going to highlight their existence any more than you'd highly a refuge that was housing people escaping domestic violence.

But I've asked you repeatedly to explain why you hate them. You've not been able to explain why and I think that's pretty telling. I think you know why you hate them - it's because they're full of people who you despise - namely asylum seekers.

lifeonmars100 · 04/08/2025 23:27

No I don't think there will be a civil war, there would have to be two delineated sides for this to happen and the issues the OP has mentioned are too multifaceted to fall neatly into "for" or "against" camps. I live in a very diverse area and I have noticed that as a white person I am now in the minority, in fact when I had my broadband installed the engineer asked me what is it was like to be white in such a mixed area. This was about 10 years ago at least and I told him honestly that I hardly gave it a minutes thought. Apparently there are over 40 languages spoken in the area I live in and I do notice that I do not hear much English when I on the bus or just out and about but this does not affect me. My neighbours are Pakistani muslims and are a wonderful family, couldn't wish for better However what we now have are a lot of Roma people and they are sadly a negative presence in the area. The mess, the noise and the anti-social behaviour is something else. I have a some of them living on the other side of me and they have almost driven me to a breakdown, they broke into my garden, used my address to claim benefits, they deal drugs, fly tip, filled up the communal entry with a ton of rubbish, there are around 10 of them in a two up two down and they are a negative presence who do not believe in education especially for women. I hate myself for disliking them so much, but they (and all the other Roma housholds) have dragged an already poor area much lower. There are now about 10 Roma families on my road and it looks hideous, I counted 7 fly tips on my 5 minute walk to the bus stop this morning. It never used to be like this. I no longer invite people to my home, it is too embarrassing. I do not doubt that there are people other than the Roma doing it but they seem to simply not care about abiding by the rules of the country they have chosen to settle in.

Oh get real.

We can all see the footage we’ve seen and it ain’t from antifa or pro Palestine groups. Watch the link I sent and show me an equivalent one?

It’s from far right thugs an nowhere else

You’re just not bright or intelligent enough to know or understand how you’ve been played on this that’s all. Many more brits are though, and they will stop any so called civil war, by being…. Civil.

MyDeftHedgehog · 04/08/2025 23:28

There will certainly be some big trouble coming unless Starmer wakes up and smells the coffee. The British public are being dry humped to Kingdom come and back again and quite frankly they have had enough.
Parents who want to protect their children are being labelled far right thugs, well that is totally unacceptable, especially as there have been cases reported recently of newly arrived illegal men attacking and raping young teenage girls, and the police attempting to pull the wool over our eyes regarding who these perpetrators are.

ThatRealFawn · 04/08/2025 23:28

I very much so doubt it. We can barely organise a protest never mind a civil war.

I think immigrants are the least of our worries.

They are not ‘illegal’ immigrants. Most immigrants are granted legal status. They are only illegal once they have been processed but that process has been sabotaged by over a decade of Tory incompetence resulting in an unnecessary backlog of claims rendering the claimants unable to work and contribute to society in the meantime.

You’ve said that your personal experience of Muslims for example has been positive. Please don’t buy the disgusting xenophobic and specifically Islamophobic rhetoric newsfeed bots on social media. They are designed to divide by right wing grifters such as Farage. Really look at how he profited from his divisive Brexit tactics.

I’ve often wondered if the Brits learn Arabic in Dubai or Spanish in Spain when they live in enclaves?

They should , but in saudi etc they definitely should follow the law or otherwise would be having some harsh penalties as they are a lot stricter than the uk also people generally go to work or have to be self sufficient you can not go to these countries and claim of the state.

SilverpetalShine · 04/08/2025 23:31

BIossomtoes · 04/08/2025 23:12

What do you want the government to listen to? I’ll tell you for nothing that it’s more likely to listen to reasoned arguments than a rabble outside a hostel.

I think the government is listening and has begun the arduous task of evening out the standards for those communities vulnerable to having hate stirred up. This organisation and study of where to begin takes time and consultation because it's real.

Unlike the hate peddlers they are doing real work instead of merely stirring up a fight via social media. We are in some ways a nation of moaners, never being slow to blame the party of the day. But we take no responsibility. We also have short memories. Fourteen years of having the country neglected, messed about and down right shortchanged on all fronts and yet a few short months later we moan about a party which, as far as I can see is working on many fronts to turn things around. It will take us all to undo that mess and help to rebuild and strengthen our communities.

"Hate cannot get rid of hate. Only love can do that.' Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

What did you sign up for today? What are joining to make a difference?

So entering by boat is legal ? There are correct ways to seek asylum, how is that fair on those following the correct process

MistressoftheDarkSide · 04/08/2025 23:36

Love them or hate them, I think GnR nailed it some years ago. ...

Civil War

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before
Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before
My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands, time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars
D'you wear a black armband when they shot the man
Who said, "Peace could last forever"?
And in my first memories, they shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall in D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom when it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin' for their promised land and
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich, while it buries the poor
You're power-hungry, sellin' soldiers in a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh?
I don't need your civil war
Ooh, no, no, no, no, no, no
Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more
My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still, the wars go on, as the years go by
With no love of God or human rights
And all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich, while it buries the poor
You're power-hungry, sellin' soldiers in a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh?
I don't need your civil war
No no no no no no no no no no no no
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
You're power-hungry, sellin' soldiers in a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh?
I don't need your civil war
No no no no no no no no no no no no
I don't need one more war
Ooh, I don't need one more war
No no no, no whoa, no whoa
What's so civil 'bout war anyway?

"The British public are being dry humped to Kingdom come and back again and quite frankly they have had enough."

Well - at least according to GB 'News', Nigel Farage, The Telegraph, The Sun, The Express, Tommeh Ten Names, and the thousands of far right social media accounts you're no doubt being constantly bombarded with propaganda from.

Reminder: asylum seekers and those granted refugee status make up only 16% of immigrants in the UK.
